What is Open University? Open University (OU) is the lifelong learning program offered by The Shepherd’s Center of Richmond (TSCOR) and consists of three 8-week sessions in the fall, winter, and spring. All OU teachers, lecturers and lunch speakers are volunteers recruited from Richmond’s university and professional communities. What is The Shepherd’s Center? The Shepherd ’s Center of Richmond (TSCOR) is a volunteer- operated, non-profit group of older persons who encourage its members to remain active through enrichment programs and volunteer service. Where does OU meet? OU meets Mondays at St. Luke Lutheran Church on the South Side and Thursdays at First Presbyterian Church in the West End. What are the different types of classes offered? “8-Week Courses” are continuing classes, as are the Special Topics Courses, which generally have different teachers each week. “Lunch Speakers” give talks during the lunch period.

What is “Lunch and Life?” Lunch and Life is a four-week lecture series offered in partnership with St. Mary Catholic Church. It is free and open to the public. No TSCOR membership, OU tuition or pre-registration required. What if I’m unsure I’ll like OU? Anyone may attend one day at OU for free. Just go to the classes that interest you, and if you decide you would like to return, we can register you on site. What if I want to attend just one course? We do not charge per individual course, but for the entire 8-week session. You may attend just one class or as many classes as you like at either of our locations for the full tuition cost. In the event of cancellations, are there make-ups or refunds? Unfortunately, we are unable to offer make-up classes or refunds. How do I register? You may register by mail, using the form below, or simply come to either OU location and register at the desk on the day of your class. You do not need to pre-register.
