WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING IN CLASS THIS WEEK

Gunwalloe Choo, Choo - this week has been train week. The children have

been learning about the inventor Richard Trevithick, and his steam locomotive. We have been reading about different types of

trains, watching a short video about the first steam locomotive, singing songs, discussing what trains are made from, and sharing details with each other about train journeys we have been on. In

phonics, we have revisited sh and ch, and this week we learnt about th, a very tricky sound to say. Continuing on from last

week, we have been using a number line to complete addition sums. The children have also been using dominoes to create sums

for themselves. In art, we have been continuing to create imaginary junk vehicles, and we have been painting trains with

sponges that print 2D shapes before adding our names, which has been good practice for forming our letters correctly.

Marazion The children have been writing their superpower words on

whiteboards this week. The words were, ‘said’, ‘go’, ‘the’ and ‘my’. In phonics, we learnt about the alternative pronunciations

of ‘c’ and ‘g’, i.e., icy, nice, giant and magic. They were amazing at putting the sound buttons under the Obb and Bob words and correctly sorting them into real and nonsense piles. We have

been looking closely at capital letters and full stops, and unscrambling superhero sentences. We designed our own

superhero, and wrote about their incredible superpowers. We learnt about real life heroes, talking about the RNLI and other emergency services. We had lots of stories to share with each

other about people who help us. In maths, the children practised their number bonds to 20 and completed addition using the first,

then and now method. A fantastic week with lots of hard work achieved by all, little superheroes!

Sennen

It's been a busy and fun week in Sennen. In literacy, we have planned and started to write a story. We have used the story to

help introduce speech marks, and to find out how to set out speech correctly within our writing. In maths, we have been

concentrating on multiplication, and using arrays to help us find unfamiliar tables facts and solve multiplication word problems. In

topic/science, we have been finding out about some of the burrowing animals which live in the UK. In art, we have continued

to work on our castle sketches, focusing on light and dark shading. In computing, we have been adding to our castle

designs, decorating with textures and adding doors and turrets. In PE, we worked with a partner to create a sequence of jumps and balances. These sequences will be added to and improved over

the coming weeks.

Godrevy In English, we have been using the text, King of Space. We have

looked at different examples of an explanation text, and identified common features, grammar and vocabulary that we

need to include in ours. We have started writing our own texts to explain our 'Bedroom Tidying Machines'. In maths, we have used

our knowledge of the 4x table in different ways, and used our knowledge to double it to investigate the 8x table. At the end of

last week, Mark W-J, a geologist, came in to lead a workshop investigating the different types of rocks and their properties to

kick start our 'Rocks, Relics & Rumbles' topic. We followed up this dynamic introduction by investigating the layers of the earth, and

finding out about tectonic plates. In RE, we learnt about the six beliefs of Islam and the five pillars of wisdom. We labelled and

decorated five pillars, and discussed the merits of the tasks Muslims undertake as part of their faith. In art, we have used nature and natural forms as a starting point for our artwork.

Porthmeor

We have had another packed week. In literacy, we have been thinking about dilemmas that a diver might face, and starting to plan a short story based on an imaginary school trip. We had a lovely trip to Newquay Aquarium on Tuesday, and the children

really enjoyed exploring and looking at a whole range of sea creatures. We had a turtle workshop, and enjoyed watching the

main turtle, Omiros, swimming around the tank. We even managed to look like we had been for a swim after our walk from the aquarium back to the coach! The children wrote good reviews of the aquarium in literacy the following day. In maths, we have

been revising the six and nine times tables. We have been looking at patterns in the tables, and how to use our knowledge of other tables to help us to solve problems. In PE, we have started work

on our RLG dance, and today we had our first session on invasion games with Liam from Plymouth Argyle. In computing, we have created some beautiful topic book covers and in PHSE, we have

been thinking about friendships.

Kynance It’s been another intergalactic week in Kynance, as the classmates

investigated Earth’s position in the Solar System and how its natural tilt provides us with day and night as well as the seasons

(in Tromsø in northern Norway, the sun doesn’t rise for eight weeks in the winter!). During literacy sessions, the classmates have been using tension techniques to make readers feel ill at

ease in preparation for next week’s story writing. It’s been angles week in maths, with the children experiencing all manner of rules

concerning them – check out this week’s homework as an example! Coordinates week is coming up on Monday!
