Spring TrainingSpring Training

GreenvilleGreenville
Schedule
5:30 - 6:15 PM: Sandwich Supper 6:30 - 7:10 PM: Breakout Session 1 7:20 - 8:00 PM: Breakout Session 2
Individuals can register for sessions by visiting www.southroanoke.org and going to the Event
Registration tab. Churches are asked to contact the SRBA office by Wednesday, April 13 with
their total amount of people who plan to attend.
Missionary's Message
In February, our Church Strengthening Team, working in concert with our Leadership Council, sent an online survey to SRBA pastors and church ministry staff. The survey was sent to both full-time and part-time ministers. Even though the responses were not as high as we anticipated, the survey did give us a snapshot of what dominates the thoughts of ministers in our association. We were pleasantly surprised and thankful to God to see that 37.5% of those who completed the survey have been in their current ministry for 6-10 years and 20.8% have been in their current ministry for over 20 years. In an age where many churches go through pastors every 3-4 years, it is refreshing to see that there are still churches that have longer tenured pastors and ministry staff. When asked about stressors in ministry, balancing ministry and family life was the top response. Vocational ministry can be demanding. Most ministers never consider themselves to be off of the clock. There are sermons and Bible studies to prepare, people to disciple and equip for ministry, meetings to attend, not to mention those unexpected emergencies that require ministers to be ready at a moment’s notice. This is the life of a minister. This is part of the call to serve Christ and His church. Those who live out this calling know what comes with it and they do it gladly. However, if they are not careful, their families can pay the price. I encourage you to pray for your pastor and ministry staff. One other item of interest from the survey I would like to share with you is that the number one area of ministry where respondents believe their churches can be better equipped is disciple-making. Disciple-making has been a hot topic in Christian ministry circles and in our association for several years. It is good to see a fresh focus on the last command Jesus gave us before He ascended to Heaven (Matthew 28:18-20), but there is still much work to be done to bring about a disciple-making culture in our churches.
Please know that the members of our Church Strengthening Team and Leadership Council are prayerfully planning the next steps that need to be taken in response to this survey. One immediate opportunity that is before us is the Spring Training event that will take place Monday, April 18 at The Memorial Baptist Church, Greenville. This training is for everyone who is a part of the SRBA. We will, however, have a special session geared for those in vocational ministry called Managing the Stress of Ministry. We will also offer a couple of sessions that focus on disciple-making. Not to mention sessions that cover several other ministry topics. More information about the Spring Training is contained in other parts of this newsletter. I look forward to seeing you in April
as we seek to sharpen our skills for Kingdom ministry . To God Be The Glory!

WMU NEWS
I would like to issue a special invitation to each lady of WMU to attend and participate in our upcoming Spring Training. At this event I will facilitate a session WMU Roundtable. I would love for numerous ladies to come togeth-er and share their hearts, passions, ideas and questions with one another. I would love to see veteran mission group lead-ers share their wisdom with 'newbies'. I would love to hear stories of how you have been on mission in your community and around the world and how you have seen God move. I would love for you to share your struggles so we can encour-age and pray for each other. Whew! That's a lot to expect out of a 45 minute session! Resources will be available for anyone who is new to WMU or any of the children/adult mission groups. So bring your stories and your questions....and make plans to join us for our WMU Roundtable on April 18 at The Memorial Baptist Church in Greenville.
Ever in service to the King,
Corby Bunting - SRBA WMU Director
