ALLEN A. AND SYLVA L. ANDERSON SCHOLARSHIP

A $500 scholarship has been established in the name of Allen A. and Sylva L. Anderson to be awarded to a senior entering a two or four year post secondary school (this includes a technical college). You will receive the funds upon proof of registration at a post secondary school. This scholarship is designated to go to a reliable, responsible person who has exhibited good scholarship. Financial need will be a factor taken into consideration in the awarding of this scholarship. Funds will be paid to the student and the school at the beginning of the school year. ALMS SISTERS’ MEMORIAL EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP

The family of Donna and Leona Alms has established a scholarship in their memory. Both Donna and Leona were teachers for many years. The scholarship is designated to go to a reliable, responsible person who has exhibited good scholarship. Financial need will be a factor taken into consideration in awarding of this scholarship. Accordingly, the scholarship recipient will be a graduating senior of Spring Valley High School who is majoring in education and will be attending the University of Wisconsin-River Falls Campus. ARNOLD W. ANDERSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Arnold W. Anderson Scholarship was established in March, 1995, with funds that Mr. Anderson designated to assist Spring Valley High School graduates in financing their post-high school education. Mr. Anderson’s gift was $10,000. The annual award will be determined by current interest rates. It is expected the award will be approximately $300.00 per year. The scholarship winner will receive funds given in the names of both the student and the school they are attending upon verification to the counselor of completion of the first term. BERNARD AND IOLIENE GRANT SCHOLARSHIP

Bernard and Ioliene Grant have established a scholarship in the amount of $500. Bernard Grant was a teacher for many years in the Spring Valley School District. Accordingly, the scholarship recipient will be a graduating senior of Spring Valley High School who is majoring in elementary education or a similar field. Funds will be paid upon successful completion of the first semester grades. BEVERLY KIRBY MEMORIAL HEALTH SCHOLARSHIP

Bev Kirby was the school nurse in Spring Valley for 29 years. Her family, Brian, Susan, William, and Peter have established a scholarship in honor of her memory for those interested in entering the field of health care professionals. There will be two-$500 scholarships offered depending on the number of “deserving candidates” as determined by the committee.

In addition to the general scholarship requirements, applicants must answer this question,

What is “success” in your opinion? After 10 years in the health care profession, what kind of “success” would you hope to have achieved? Please explain. Also include in your answer what type of health profession you are seeking.

A scholarship in the amount of $100 will be awarded in memory of Bill Stein. This is a general scholarship given out to any student pursuing a post secondary school in an agriculture related field. This scholarship is being offered to a Spring Valley graduating senior who will be pursuing a degree in botany, landscaping, horticulture or a related field. This scholarship is available through a local gardening club, Botany Belles and Beaus Garden Club. DENNIS KADO MEMORIAL ART SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship has been established in honor of and in memory of Dennis Kado. Dennis graduated from SVHS in 1971, and then continued his education at UW-Stout majoring in Art. Upon graduation, he returned to Spring Valley to teach Art for a few years. Dennis was an encourager; he loved kids and wanted the best for them. For these reasons and Dennis’ love of art, his family started this scholarship in his name. This scholarship is available to students of Spring Valley High School who will continue their education in an art related field of study at a University, Technical College, Vocational Institute, or any other post-secondary learning institution. The funds will be awarded after successful completion of the first grading period. In addition to the general scholarship requirements, applicants must include a brief narrative and/or videography that best articulates how art has impacted your life and how you will share this passion with others in your future. DEVEE GINGRICH MEMORIAL MUSIC SCHOLARSHIP

The Devee Gingrich Music Scholarship is provided in honor of the memory of Devee Gingrich. Mrs. Gingrich was a vocal music teacher in the Spring Valley School System from 1967-1994. Her dedication and commitment to the students and citizens of the Spring Valley area is legendary. One scholarship will be awarded per year. If there are no qualified candidates in any one year, the entire amount of interest earned will be added to the principle. In order to qualify for the scholarship, the student must complete one semester of college study with a grade point of not less than 2.5 on a 4-point scale (C=2, B=3, A=4) and complete at least one class in music. College students of Junior and Senior Status must maintain a 3.0 average. A student may qualify for this scholarship for as many as four times, however, priority must be given to first time qualifiers. Priority will also be given to applicants engaged in Music Education and particularly to those planning to teach in the public school systems. FIRST BANK OF BALDWIN SCHOLARSHIP

The First Bank of Baldwin, Spring Valley Branch, has established a scholarship to be awarded to a Spring Valley High School Senior. The scholarship will be awarded to a graduate pursuing a degree at either a 2 or 4-year college or university. Applicants going into any field of study may apply; however, students that declare a field of study in Finance, Accounting or Business are preferred. The scholarship is designed to encourage the recipient the opportunity to earn $500 for each completed year of post-secondary schooling up to 4 years. Students who complete a 2-year program will receive $1000.00. Students who complete a 4-year program will receive $2000.00. The recipient’s transcript will be reviewed at the completion of 1st semester each year and the funds will be awarded in $500 increments at that time. In addition to the local scholarship application packet, applicants should include on a separate sheet of paper answers to the following questions: Name/Location of College/Tech School; Have you been accepted; Start date; Field of study; Desired occupation. The First Bank of Baldwin has three branches, which are located in Baldwin, Spring Valley and Plum City, and will select one recipient from each of the school districts. GET A SKILL, GET A JOB SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship has been set up to honor our mother, Lorraine Langer a single parent, for her hard work and achievement in raising 4 young sons, all of whom graduated from SVHS. We are grateful not only for her dedication but also the caring teachers and community members who provided encouragement to us to become educated and self-sufficient responsible members of society. This scholarship is also in memory of Karon A. Langer. This scholarship was established to provide incentive for a SVHS student to get a start obtaining employable skills in the first year of post high school education. A part time job or internship in the chosen area of study should be the goal to help finance completion of a 2 or 4-year degree. Experience gained will not only provide a sense of self-reliance to the recipient but eventually assist in launching a full time career.

HEALING CHOICES SCHOLARSHIP

The Healing Choices Scholarship has been established by former student Dr. Judy Walz. The goal of this scholarship is to find an applicant who has passion for humanity, dedication to heal the world one person at a time, and have a commitment for their life to “make a difference.”

This scholarship is available to students of Spring Valley High School who will continue their education in a health-related field such as: Nursing, Art or Music Therapy, Psychology, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Homebound Care, Caring for the elderly, Care giving ministries, Hospice, Acupressure and Asian Therapy.

The applicant must possess refined social skills (eye contact, conflict resolution/mediation, attending skills, and receptive listener.) Applicant should also show maturity and good citizenship with experience in mentoring, child care, camp counselor, and/or volunteerism desired. Ideally a G.P.A of 3.0, however, implementation of education, consistency in academic endeavors, dynamic and diverse learning are most significant. Dr. Walz is very passionate about having a positive impact on the world. Each applicant must respond to the questions below. These questions must be handwritten, in the applicant’s own penmanship!!! (Total Length should be no more than 3 pages.)

JIM AND JEAN FURUGLYAS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

Jim served the Village of Spring Valley as Police Officer and Police Chief for 26 years, 1979-2006. He loved the people here and mentored several individuals to follow the path of law enforcement. Jim was a true fan of Spring Valley Schools and was there to cheer on the teams! Jean (Stark) Furuglyas graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1968. This generation may not have been directly impacted by Jim’s dedication to the Village of Spring Valley; however, many of their parents remember him. This scholarship is to carry on the legacy of Officer Furuglyas. He gave his heart to the community and the school district, and would be honored to have a scholarship in his name. Any post-secondary institution is acceptable as long as the final goal of the recipient is in criminal justice/law enforcement. JOSEPH MENTER JR. SCHOLARSHIP

The Joseph Menter Jr. Scholarship is for students planning to continue their education in computer science, math, or a science related field. Joe Menter graduated in the Spring Valley High School Class of 1981. He was a member of the National Honor Society, football team and quiz bowl team, a class officer and a Badger State participant. Joe donated $25,000 to the Spring Valley Scholarship fund. The interest proceeds from this donation will fund the scholarship annually, dependent on interest rates. The scholarship is for approximately $1,200, paid in two installments of $600 each at the end of first and second semesters. If the recipient does not attend post-secondary school within one year of receiving the scholarship, it will be awarded to the second highest qualified applicant. LAURA FABER HOLCOMB BERGELIN MEMORIAL NURSING SCHOLARSHIP

The Laura Faber Holcomb Bergelin Memorial Scholarship is being established by Laura’s family in honor of her memory. Laura was a 1973 graduate of Spring Valley High School. Laura served others in the field of nursing for 41 years as a Registered Nurse. Her compassion for other showed in her work. This scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior attending a technical college or university, and entering the Nursing or other Health Care fields. LOGAN M. JACOBSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Logan M. Jacobson Memorial Scholarship was established in 2009 by his family. Logan was a 2008 graduate of Spring Valley High School. He loved the outdoors and rural life. One scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior attending a technical college or university, intending to enter a “hands-on” profession. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate a passion for all things mechanical and a love of the local area and small town living. Major: “Hands-on” professions -- preference for

mechanics, auto body work, forestry, construction, agriculture, or similar fields.

LUNDQUIST MEMORIAL SCIENCE SCHOLARSHIP

The Lundquist Science Scholarship was established by Jeanne and Bill Lundquist to financially assist Spring Valley students to continue their education in science. Mrs. Lundquist taught science at Spring Valley High School for 16 years, retiring in 1988. A $500 scholarship has been made available to students of Spring Valley High School intent upon continuing their education in science or a science-related field at a four-year college or university. This is a one year scholarship open to graduating seniors. Funds will be paid to the recipient and the school at the beginning of 2nd semester. MARK ANDERSON, INCORPORATED SCHOLARSHIP

Mark Anderson & Associates will award two scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each to two graduating seniors of Spring Valley High School. The scholarship winners will receive funds credited towards their second semester tuition upon verification of the student maintaining a “B” average at the completion of their first semester. Applicant must be accepted by an accredited institution of higher learning with an intended major in Engineering, Medical, or Agriculture field.

The Mildred Arneson donation is a gift to the Spring Valley School District that exemplifies a family giving to others in order to make a difference in others’ lives. This is a general scholarship open to all students pursuing post-secondary education at either a university or a technical school. There will be an estimated two $500 scholarships awarded depending on interest accrued and the number of “deserving candidates” as determined by the committee. NEIL H. PALMER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Neil H. Palmer Scholarship Fund was established in May, 1975 by Mrs. Ethel Palmer and the late Gust Palmer, in memory of their son Neil. It is designed to financially assist graduates of Spring Valley High School, to attend a public or private baccalaureate degree or vocational technical degree or diploma granting institution. The scholarship will be awarded using the following criteria; scholarship, aptitude, character and participation in extra-curricular school, community and church activities. NOAH LAMB MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Noah Scholarship is named in memory of Noah Benjamin Lamb. In August, 2008, Ben and Nicole Lamb lost their son, Noah, to the silent disease Congenital CMV. Ben, Nicole, Jordan and Bradyn Lamb, along with their families hold a golf outing benefit each year to raise awareness of what CMV is and how it can affect a person’s life. Ben and Nicole have established a scholarship fund in Noah’s name. The scholarship will help area high school students achieve their dream of furthering their education in a field that would have helped Noah. Applicants will need to be entering either the education or medical fields. To be eligible for the Noah Lamb Scholarship, applicant must be going onto either a 4 year college or a 2 year program. PIERCE COUNTY VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS POST 9060 SCHOLARSHIP

The Pierce County Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9060 scholarship is to be used to attend a College, University, Public or Private for four years and includes Vocational, Technical, Trade School, or Junior College for two years. To be eligible, a student must be a member of the current graduating class of SVHS. RICHARD H. PENCE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

The Richard H. Pence Memorial Scholarship was established in June of 2009, by William and Ruth Pence in memory of his brother, Richard H. Pence. This scholarship will be awarded to one graduating high school student rated scholastically in the top one-third of the graduating class. The award will be based upon scholarship, leadership, and involvement in the school community. Financial need will be taken into consideration. It is desirable that the applicant shows efforts to be self-sufficient by means of part-time or seasonal employment. The recipient will attend on a full-time basis, an accredited college, university or vocational school as approved by the Scholarship Committee. The vocational program of study must also be approved by the Scholarship Committee.

If sufficient funds are available, more than one scholarship may be awarded and/or additional money may be awarded to the recipient for a second academic year. The recipient should apply for these additional funds by submitting a written request and transcripts by the following year’s local scholarship deadline. SPRING VALLEY AGRICULTURE SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship is being offered to graduating seniors of Spring Valley High School who are enrolling in a post-secondary education program at either a two year technical college or a four year university with a major in agriculture or an agriculture related field of study. Priority will be given to students who have been a part of the SVHS FFA chapter and/or a local 4-H program with Ag related projects. This scholarship recipient will be eligible to re-apply for additional academic years based on grades and continued involvement in agriculture activities. The volunteer members of the Spring Valley Area Ambulance are creating a healthcare education scholarship to encourage graduating seniors to pursue a post secondary education in a health care field. SPRING VALLEY SCHOOL ALUMNI MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

In January of 1977 the Board of Education of the School District of Spring Valley approved the Spring Valley School Alumni Memorial Scholarship Fund and forwarded to the fund several memorials donated and not used previously. Interest from this fund will be used to award scholarships to graduates of Spring Valley High School. These awards attempt to regain the true meaning of being a scholarship recipient - one deserving honor for demonstrated academic achievement, community involvement and service, and exhibition of potential for future achievement, leadership and success. The Memorial Scholarship may be a continuing source of funds to assist a student to complete his education. Recipients must reapply each year for which they wish financial support from the fund. Former recipients need a college transcript for verification. The number and amount of the scholarships may vary at the discretion of the Scholarship Committee.
