The 2007 National Convention: Top 10 Tips The ALPFA National Convention is just around the corner! Be ready to bring the best of you to the various exciting events, and networking opportunities during this year’s Convention held in Orlando, Florida on August 4th-8th, 2007! Nerelys Cordero, our President, Tatiana Guevara, Student Outreach Co-Chair, and Jenny Guevara, Public Relations Co- Chair, share their top ten tips you should know and actively follow during this amazing event: BEFORE THE EVENT 1. Hurry Up and Plan to Attend the

ALPFA National Convention: If you haven’t done so, go to www.alpfa.org and click on REGISTER NOW on the home page.

2. Make Air Travel and Hotel Arrangements On Time: Make sure that you book your flight in advance, as well as your hotel reservations. The hotel left that is offering an ALPFA rate is the Port Orleans, which is a hotel operated by Disney. If you plan to stay at another hotel, we strongly

recommend you get as close as possible to the Contemporary Hotel, which is where a majority of the Convention events will take place.

3. Check Maps and Places of Interest: If this is your first time in Orlando, make sure to review maps and places to visit. There is plenty of information in the internet, also some hotels offer discount tickets to go to different attractions in the area. Visit www.orlandoinfo.com

4. Carefully Read The Convention Agenda: Make sure that you are familiar with the agenda and topics to be discussed at the event. Review places of each session as well as times. This will allow you to have a clear idea of what will be happening during the day.

5. Update Your Resume: Along with you business cards, bring your most updated resume, as the event will have some recruiting and interviews sessions.

Welcome to our new series of sponsored articles, “From Our Sponsor’s Desk”! In this section, you will find relevant articles submitted by our sponsors. We hope you find the articles informative, educative, as well as relevant for your professional and financial success! Organization…Discipline…Sense of Purpose. They sound like qualities a football team would stress in preparing for the next weekend's opponent, but they can also be virtues in helping you achieve your financial goals. Ideally, you should consult with a financial professional to map out a strategy. But with personal commitment and perhaps some sacrifice, you can take several steps on your own to help build a successful financial game plan. - Know Yourself -- Take inventory of your finances. Calculate your assets -- cash, IRAs, mutual funds, real estate, life insurance – and your liabilities, like a mortgage or consumer debt and deferred income taxes on investments. - Start Saving Now -- Probably the first thing to do is you take full advantage of any employer match in any qualified savings program offered by your employer. Don’t miss out on the "Triple Treat" of an initial tax deduction, matching employer contributions and tax deferred earnings offered by most 401(k) or 403(b) plans. - Take Stock of the Market –Mutual funds are probably the best way to start in the stock market. Also, if you choose a fund, plan to stick with it for a while. Remember even the best financial pros have trouble timing the market.

- Curb Your Credit Cards -- If your total monthly debt payments (excluding your mortgage payments) are 20% or more of your monthly take-home pay, you’re probably overextended. - Be Wise with Windfalls -- If you come up with a significant lump sum -- a bonus, an inheritance, or maybe even a mid-size lottery win -- try to resist the urge to buy the hot sports car you've always dreamed of. - Keep Current -- Financial markets are a dynamic, fluid environment. Make it imperative that you carefully review your strategy every year or so. Naturally, your review should be rigorous and disciplined, just like any successful game plan.
