2. (continued) The local authority would like to include residents of the local community in the decision-making process. To help the residents visualise the proposed development the local authority have commissioned a team of specialists to create a 3D printed scaled model of the street and a 3D animation of the street. (b) Compare both methods in terms of their suitability for this task. The feedback from the residents was relayed back to the architect. Following this, the architect used a digital input device to make minor amendments to the initial set of designs. (c) Explain how the use of this digital input device can benefit the architect.

2. (continued) Prior to the construction of the building, a drainage survey was undertaken. (d) Explain the purpose of this survey in ensuring the success of the project.

A CAD engineer was hired to produce a walkthrough animation for the proposed layout of the care home. Before producing the animation, the CAD technician took several still renders of a single room to check that illustration techniques were applied effectively. (e) (i) Explain the techniques applied between stages 1 and 2.

3. A Hamilton based visual media team recently developed two short animated films to be shown at the Glasgow Film Festival. The concept for each short film is given below;

Film A - An inspirational story of a working class Brazilian boy who struggles to overcome his social status and becomes a gold medal winner at an Olympic event. The animation made full use of human actors. Filming took place in Glasgow, therefore, green-screen techniques were used to allow the post-production team to re-create Brazilian locations. Film B - A short horror/thriller which is set in the streets of Los Angeles. The plot revolves around an elderly man who desperately struggles to flee from an unidentified assailant through the alleyways of the city. The entire set was scaled-down and built inside a small studio by a team of model makers. Life-like dolls were used to animate all of the characters.

(a) State which animation type was used for each of the short films and describe a single advantage and disadvantage associated with each method.
