    STEP TWO:

Add up the cost, deduct it from your SP total and then spend two or three posts in design and construction.

(note, only a single prototype is constructed at this stage) If you assign a LT with starship engineering skill

to the task the your Step three results will improve.

    STEP THREE:

Make a 'test flight' post and have a number of dice rolled to determine any flaws or bonuses the design

might have. Rolls will be made to test weapons, engines, defences and anything else that might be relevent

during the course of the post then averaged for the final result. Skill of the test pilot will also play a part in

the results of the rolls. You may also do the 'test flights' in a live fire environment, an actual mission for

example. The chances of something going very right OR horribly wrong increases in this instance from 1-5

    and 96-100 to 1-10 and 90-100.

    STEP FOUR:

There are two options for how to procced at step four.

Option A: You move onto production and build a squadron (2-3 units in case of dropships and shuttles) at

half the cost of the prototype.

Option B: If you didn't like the rolls during the test phase then you can head back to step two and modify

the design, either exhanging components if you wish or simply tinkering with the exsisting design to refine

it and get the bugs out. This comes with a small SP fee and takes another post like those in step two. If youchose this option you procced step three again afterwards.

    Notes:

    Prototyping:

Steps one through three require a repair bay or contracting with a shipyard. If using a repair bay any crew

you assign to the project with starship engineering will boost the step three results, if using a shipyard a

dice roll determines if a skilled engineer is on the design team. If you contracted with a shipyard to design

the craft that shipyard then has an exlusive on the design and can do with it what they like unless you pay

    a premium.

    STEP FOUR, OPTION A:

Production requires either a shipyard contract or a construction bay.

    Roll results in step three:

If a critical failure is rolled causeing the test to be cut short the lead engineer will take a -50% confidence

hit to the next task he does. If the prototype is being piloted by a NPC it may explode. If piloted by asecondary character the prototype has a small risk of exploding, killing the pilot, but will most likely be

recoverable with injuries to the pilot. Main character pilots will always defult to recoverable with injuries.

Rolling a 1 will grant a instant level to either the pilot or the lead engineer. An engineer may take the trait

'Strike Craft Design' once if this happens which will add an extra bonus to future test rolls.

If a roll lands naturally in the critical success range (1-5 standard, 1-10 live fire) it will grant an immediate

bonus to that system despite the average result.
