INTRODUCTION

Here's a variation of the Square Patch Bracelet wherein the square components are used to create a ring! In this tutorial, you'll explore another possible way of using a square component by weaving them and linking side by side to form a ring band.

Creating the square components uses Peyote Stitch and forming the patches into a ring band uses Ladder Stitch.

The tutorial is catered for beginners or anyone who loves to learn this basic

weave. It has in-depth instructions and ultra-clear, close-up photos at each step. Additionally, you can ask me question you have on the tutorial. No more getting

stuck and frustrated on a confusing or just plain inaccurate pattern.

In this tutorial, the size of the ring is approximately 5 inches on a mandrel

STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1: Cut about 18 inches of beading thread. String 4 dark green and tie a knot, leaving about 4 to 5 inches tail.

After tying a knot you will have 1 unit of right angle weave or RAW. This will be your 1st round.

Step 2:

String 1 light green seed bead. Going counter-clockwise pass the thread into the next dark green.

Repeat 3 more times and go all the way around the unit of RAW. You now have your 2nd round with light green seed beads.

Take note that your thread is coming out of a dark green. Do a step-up so pass the thread into the next light green and pull. Your thread is in a position to start a 3rd round.

Step 3:

Continue by stringing 2 light greens. Still going counter-clockwise, skip the next dark green and pass the thread into light green.

Repeat 3 more times going counter-clockwise. You now have your 3rd round.

Take note that your thread is coming out of a light green from the 2nd round. Do again a step-up. Pass the thread into the next 2 light greens.

Pull the thread. Now, you're ready thread is in position to start a 4th round.

Step 4: String 2 dark greens. Skip the next light green from the 2nd round and pass into the next 2 light greens.

Repeat 3 more times going counter-clockwise to complete your 4th round.

Take note again that your thread is coming out of 2 light greens from the 3rd round. Pass the thread into the next 1 dark green.

Pull the thread so you’re ready to add another corner bead. Do the same for the rest of the corners.

Step 7:

This is how it should look like. Once you’re done with 1 square component secure and cut off excess thread. Repeat from start and create several pieces of square component you think would be enough to make a ring. For approximately size 5 on a mandrel, you need to create 5 square components.

Step 8: Forming the ring band with Ladder Stitch

Cut an extra 15 inches of thread. Secure the thread onto one square component and come out a dark green. from 1 of the sides, just before a corner bead. Slide in a dark green, 2 light greens and 1 dark green. Going left, pass the thread back through the 4 side beads.

Pull the thread. You now have these 4 new beads as your connecting beads.

Step 9:

Now pass down again the connecting beads. Pick up another square component and connect by passing the thread into the 4 side beads.

Going left, come back down into the connecting beads and pull the thread tight.

You now have 2 squares connected.

Step 10: Pass the thread through the side beads until you come out the opposite side. Repeat Step 8 - 9 to can connect another square component. After connecting a square component, you may find that either need to weave in clockwise or counter-clockwise direction to attach the 4 connecting beads. When finished, secure the thread by passing back through several beads and cut off excess thread.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I consider myself a late bloomer when it comes to crafting. I’m a self-taught jewelry

maker. Jewelry making wasn’t really a hobby of mine, but unforeseen events lead

me to learn jewellery making. My family put up a craft store where we sell cross

stitch, beads and all sorts of crafting materials. I fell in love with the beads and tried

to create accessories only for myself. Clients liked the pieces and I started

customizing handmade jewelleries. The craft store was a success for 6 years, but

like any other small businesses we had to close it down and I was confined to

staying at home. While at home I had all the time using the internet and now working

as a home-based jewelry designer
