     COMMENTARY

In this material world people become joyful by hearing about the marriage of a boy and agirl. Encouraged by such topics, the conditioned souls become eager to face the miseriesof material bondage. But the topics related with the marriage of Çréman Mahäprabhu, whois the controller of mäyä, are not like this. This pastime of the Lord is meant todemonstrate the uselessness of material existence. A living entity who is attached tomaterial enjoyment considers the marriage of a mundane boy and girl to be the ideal

example of sense gratification, and if he considers the spiritual pastimes of the SupremeLord’s marriage as similar to the conditioned soul’s sense gratificatory activities, which areapparently sweet but ultimately poison, he will certainly be entangled in the bondage ofmaterial existence. But the Supreme Lord is the only object of all enjoyment, and theservants, maidservants, and wonderful ingredients of service, which are all under Hiscontrol, cannot produce such inauspiciousness. Wherever the happiness of the Lord ispresent, the sense gratification of the living entities cannot remain. In this regard oneshould discuss auspicious nectarean statements such as the following verses from ÇrémadBhägavatam (11.2.42): bhaktiù pareçänubhavo viraktir anyatra caiña trika eka-kälaù—“Devotion, direct experience of the Supreme Lord, and detachment from other things—these three occur simultaneously,” and from the Bhakti-rasämåta-sindhu (1.2.187):

éhä yasya harer däsye karmaëä manasä giränikhiläsv apy avasthäsu jévan-muktaù sa ucyate

“A person acting in the service of Kåñëa with his body, mind, intelligence, and words is aliberated person even within the material world, although he may engage in manyapparently material activities.” The Supreme Lord Viñëu is the transcendental controllerof mäyä, so to consider Him material or like an ordinary living entity is a great offense.

When a transcendental service attitude towards the Supreme Lord Viñëu is awakened, then liberated devotees inclined towards serving the Lord are no longer entangled in

material bondage. In other words, if a living entity is eager to please the Supreme Lord, he

    21/25

becomes freed from the bondage of material existence, which is separate from the Lord, and never personally endeavors for sense gratification or material enjoyment.

    CB.1.10.120

With Lakñmé at the side of the Lord, the house of Çacé appeared like Vaikuëöha, the mosteffulgent abode.

    MG

    1.11.3

(MGK.1.11.3) Thereafter, the Lord dwelt happily in that auspicious house with Hisfamily members, resembling the moon surrounded by the stars in a clear sky.

    CM.1.4.184

CM ADI 4.184. Saci's home was filled with bliss. In this

way Locana dasa sings this song glorifying Lord Gaura.

Such a wonderful effulgence constantly emanated from the house that mother Çacé couldnot even see properly.

    COMMENTARY

By the arrival of Çrématé Lakñmépriyä-devé, who is the direct personification of one of theSupreme Lord’s internal potencies, known as Çré-çakti, the house of Çré Çacé actually

became the effulgent Vaikuëöha abode of the Supreme Lord.

    CB.1.10.122

Sometimes Çacé saw flames of fire at the side of her son, but when she looked again theywere gone.

    CB.1.10.123

When she sometimes smelled the fragrance of a lotus flower, she was utterly astonished.

    CB.1.10.124

Çacé thought, “I can understand the reason for this. Lakñmédevé resides in this girl.

    CB.1.10.125

“That is why I see this effulgence and smell the fragrance of lotus flowers. Now we maynot face any poverty like before.

    CB.1.10.126

“Otherwise where has everything come from since this daughter-in-law, Lakñmé, entered

    my house?”

    MG 1.11.4

  • 8/18/2019 Sri Gauranga's Return to His Home With Laksmipriya After His Wedding

    24/25

(MGK.1.11.4) Just by the sight of Sri Sri Laksmi-Narayana in the home of Saci-devi,

each of the personified qualities of good fortune came to reside there, just toadvertise the fame of their own opulence.

    CB.1.10.127

In this way mother Çacé had various thoughts, as the Lord almost but not quite manifestHimself.

    COMMENTARY

Although the Supreme Lord appeared in this world, out of His sweet will He did not

manifest His covered pastimes to everyone.

    CB.1.10.128

Who can understand the supreme will of the Lord? How and when does He perform Hispastimes?

    COMMENTARY

  • 8/18/2019 Sri Gauranga's Return to His Home With Laksmipriya After His Wedding

    25/25

The words kälera vihära mean “enjoying pastimes suitable for a particular time.”

    CB.1.10.129

Until the Lord Himself allows one to know Him, even Lakñmé has no power to understandHim.

    COMMENTARY

By the supreme will of the Lord, His covered pastimes are beyond the perception of evenHis internal potencies.

    CB.1.10.130

The Vedas, Puräëas, and other scriptures confirm that only one who is favored by the

    Lord can understand Him.
