LETTERS TO THE EDITORJoined EB cables pose danger in 18th Street,
K. K. NagarSir, I am a resident of 18th
Street, 4th Sector, K. K. Nagar.I wish to thank EB for installing
new junction boxes at a level higherthan the surface of my street.
In this connection, the junctionbox in front of Plot No. 505 wasreplaced with a new one.
However, at the time of replace-ment, due to shortage of full lengthcables, the workers joined shorterones. The cables are also lying overground, and the joints have notbeen properly sealed and insulatedand hence pose a danger of electro-cution to unwary pedestrians.
With the recent rains, the situa-tion is even more precarious. I appeal to the EB authorities totake immediate action to properly insulate the joints and relaythe cable underground. R. Jayakumar
Appeal to commission lights in Anna Main Road-Link Road junction
Sir, The recently opened Link Road,at its junction with Anna Main Road,is poorly illuminated. LED streetlights installed recently at the junc-tion are still not operational and theexisting sodium vapour lights do notprovide enough illumination.
The junction and the stretch of theroad are also in relative darkness, and pose a danger to motorists whofind it difficult to negotiate the junc-tion at night. Link Road connects K.K. Nagar with Nesapakkam andRamapuram via Anna Main Road.
I appeal to EB officials to takeimmediate action to commission thehigh-mast lamps installed at the junc-tion for the benefit of motorists andpedestrians. R. Govindarajan, K. K. Nagar
CMDA should taketougher stand againstbuilding rule violatorsSir, The other day, I read a
report which stated that an 8-storey building off GST Road,Chromepet was sealed by theCMDA as it was built withoutany approval.
The report further statedthat even when the CMDAissued stop work notice, thebuilders went ahead with theconstruction. Why it did nottake action when the stop worknotice was ignored and keptquiet till the building was com-pleted is questionable. Butthat it has woken up at leastnow and sealed the buildingmust be appreciated.
While on this, one must re-call that the owners of ChennaiSilks had stated that they willconstruct a new buildingwithin a short span of time atthe same place on UsmanRoad, T. Nagar where the oldbuilding was gutted and laterdemolished. While this showsthe financial stability of theowners, who will ensure thestability of thebuilding? Agreed, with the helpof technological advance-ments, though one can put upa structure, its stability has tobe ensured as the premiseswill be visited by tens of thou-sands of shoppers daily.
While it is imperative thatthe approving authorities andother departments need toexercise extreme caution, theresidents of the nearby streetstoo should remain vigilant be-cause it is they who will be-come the victims in case ofany untoward incidents tak-ing place. K. Harihar, T.Nagar
Sir, Of late, OLA auto drivers too have started fleecingpassengers and refusing to ply short distances. They some-times demand more than the normal fare. Further, they don’treturn the exact balance amount. Recently, a relative engagedan OLA auto from T. Nagar to Alwarpet. Though the fare wasRs. 42, the driver demanded Rs. 50. Passengers should use the‘My Ride’ option in the OLA app to report the driver in case ofovercharging or other issues. K. Harihar, T. Nagar
Natesan Park needs more illuminationSir, While Natesan Park, located on Venkatanarayana
Road, T. Nagar, has all facilities, insufficient illumination incertain areas makes one dread to move about after dusk.
Lack of illumination provides cover for all sorts of nefariousactivities. Considering the safety and security of those whovisit the park after dusk, the authorities must take immediatesteps to provide additional lighting. V. S. Jayaraman, 31,Motilal Street, T. Nagar
Pavements misused forparking vehicles
Sir, The pavements ofJeevanandan Street, K. K.Nagar are misused for park-ing vehicles forcing pedestri-ans to walk on the road.
I appeal to Chennai Corpo-ration to erect bollards alongthe pavements to prevent theparking of vehicles. V. Balu,Jeevanandam Street, K. K.Nagar
‘108’ ambulancesincreased, responsetime reducedBy Our Staff Reporter
Emergency ManagementResearch Institute (EMRI),which runs ‘108’ ambulancefor the state, has increased itsfleet.
According to an official, theaverage time to reach the vic-tim has also been brought downfrom 13 minutes to 9.33 min-utes.
He said that apart from in-creasing the number of ambu-lances, back-up ambulanceshave been stationed in frequentaccident spots and placeswhere the response time is highbecause of the traffic densitylike Anna Salai, PoonamalleeHigh Road and Koyambedu.
Garbage woes outside house in Madley RoadSir, Garbage bins have been placed along the compound wall
of my house in Madley Road. This has led to daily accumulationof garbage and other waste in front of my house.
On some days, when there is a huge pile-up, a JCP machineis used to lift the garbage at night which causes a lot of nuisanceto us and other residents. During one such operation in June,a JCP machine partly damaged the compound wall of myhouse.
I have since then been running from pillar to post, but noaction has been taken by Chennai Corporation to repair thecompound wall. I took up the matter with the CorporationOffice in Pondy Bazaar, which advised me to forward thecomplaint to the Corporation Office in Kodambakkam. Tilldate there has been no reply or any other response.
Garbage continues to be dumped outside my house and weare forced to keep all doors and windows shut all the time dueto the foul smell. It also leaves me and my family at a high riskof falling prey to contagious diseases.
I appeal for the immediate removal of the garbage bins keptnear my house to a different location. Dr K. Latika, 58,Madley Road, T. Nagar
