The land for the Corpora- tion office was acquired for around Rs 6 crore after its Board of Directors headed by the Chief Minister had given approval for the con- struction during the previ- ous National Conference- Congress regime. For past two decades, at least 48 huts located on the foothills of Zabar- awan mountain range at Chesmashahi, were being allocated as official resi- dences to who’s who of state bureaucracy during the period of bi-annual Durbar Move. However, Chief Minis- ter Mehbooba Mufti, who is also Minister in-charge of Tourism and Estates departments- before clo- sure of Durbar move this time decided against rent- ing out cozy hutments to the Estates department, sourc- es told Greater Kashmir. In follow-up to the CM’s decision, the Estates depart- ment hired only 13 huts for housing the bureaucrats and top cops-sparing the remaining 35 for tourists. According to sources, eight IAS officers, three IPS and two members of statu- tory bodies would continue to enjoy the stay in the posh huts- something that has evoked criticism from dif- ferent stakeholders. Repeated attempts to get J&K government’s version proved futile as Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Navin Kumar Choudary, who also holds the charge of the post of administrative secretary of Estates depart- ment, did not respond to repeated calls from this reporter. Vitamin D supplementa- tion during pregnancy has been advocated by the researchers to address the gross shortfall in Vitamin D levels. A recently published study by Kashmir-based group of researchers has found that two-thirds of Kashmiri women are Vita- min D deficient. The study, carried out at tertiary care hospitals of Srinagar by a group of eleven doctors and pub- lished in current issue of Indian Journal of Endo- crinology and Metabolism (IJEM May-June 2016) ‘sought to assess the effi- cacy and safety of various doses of 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25[OH]D) supplementa- tion during pregnancy and ratify the inadequacy of the recommended daily allow- ance for Vitamin D in vul- nerable groups.’ Researchers have report- ed Vitamin D deficiency in 67 percent women included in the study. These women did not have Vitamin D levels of 25(OH)D of 30 ng/ml. D A RASHID Srinagar, May 4: The Jammu and Kashmir High Court on Wednesday dis- missed a Public Interest Liti- gation seeking judicial probe into the alleged molestation of a girl and subsequent kill- ing of five civilians by forces in north Kashmir’s Hand- wara and Kupwara. “We are of the considered view that this is not a case where this Court would need to take any action in exercise of its inherent powers, for, the state and its functionar- ies have already taken the required steps envisaged by law,” a division bench of Jus- tices Ali Muhammad Magrey and Tashi Rabstan said in its order, dismissing the petition as “unnecessary”. The High Court Bar Association through its president Mian Abdul Qayoom had approached the court seeking probe by judicial authority headed by a sitting Judge of the High Court of J&K. Regarding the issue of alleged videographing of the girl in the Police Station and circulation of such video, the bench said: “We leave the aggrieved person, if any, free to seek compensation in appropriate proceedings”.
