Installing the VMware vCenter SiteRecovery Manager Components

Objective: Install the vCenter Site Recovery Managercomponents

In this lab, you will perform the following tasks:

1. Access Your Lab Server System

2. Verify the vCenter Server Inventory

3. Configure a Virtual Machine Port Group

4. Install the vCenter Site Recovery Manager Software

5. Install the vCenter Site Recovery Manager Plug-In

Task 1: Access Your Lab Server System

You log in to the system that is used to perform the practical exercises. This system is your

VMware® vCenter Server™ system.

Students should perform the steps in this task individually.

Use the following information from the class configuration handout:

• vCenter Server system FQDN

• vCenter Server system user name

• vCenter Server system password

1. Ask your instructor how to access your vCenter Server system.

For example, your instructor might ask you to use Remote Desktop Connection to access your

vCenter Server system.

2. Log in to your vCenter Server system with your assigned user name and password that is

specified in the class configuration handout.

Task 2: Verify the vCenter Server Inventory

You verify that the vCenter Server services are started. You verify that your vCenter Server

inventory has been configured properly for you. You use the inventory objects later to configure the

VMware® vCenter™ Site Recovery Manager™ software.

Students should perform the steps in this task individually.

Use the following information from the class configuration handout:

• vCenter Server system FQDN

1. Use the Windows Services program to verify that the VMware VirtualCenter Management

Webservices and VMware VirtualCenter Server services are running.

a. From your vCenter Server desktop, select Start > Administrative Tools > Services.

b. Scroll down the list and verify that the VMware VirtualCenter Management Webservices

and VMware VirtualCenter Server services are started.

c. If the services are not started, start these services.

d. Close the Services program.

2. On your vCenter Server desktop, double-click the VMware vSphere® Client™ icon.

The login window opens.

a. In the IP address/Name text box, enter localhost, or the name of your vCenter Server

system.

b. Select the Use Windows session credentials check box and click Login.

c. If a security warning is displayed, select the Install this certificate and do not display

any security warnings for “<system name>” check box and click Ignore.

d. If a VMware® Evaluation Notice is displayed, click OK .

3. To go to the Hosts and Clusters view, on the Home page, select Hosts and Clusters.

4. In the left pane, expand the vCenter Server inventory and verify that objects exist in the

inventory.

NOTE

If your vCenter Server inventory does not look like the screenshot, then follow the steps in

appendix A to create the inventory. After you create the inventory, return to this lab and

continue with task 3.

• A data center named Training

• Your assigned ESXi host, whose fully qualified domain name (FQDN) is specified in the

class configuration handout

• Resource pools named Local Services, Protected Services, Recovered Services, and

vSphere Replication

• Resource pools in the Protected Services resource pool named Protected Application

Servers, Protected Database Servers, and Protected Web Servers

• Resource pools in the Recovered Services resource pool named Recovered Application

Servers, Recovered Database Servers, and Recovered Web Servers

• Four virtual machines:

• fw-kit_name##• appsvr-kit_name##

kit_name is the name of the kit that you are using and ## is the number of your VMware®

ESXi™ host.

For example, if your kit name is amber and the number of your ESXi host is 01, your

virtual machines are named fw-amber01, appsvr-amber01, dbsvr-amber01, and

websvr-amber01.

5. Verify that fw-kit_name## is powered on.

6. Verify that appsvr-kit_name##, dbsvr-kit_name##, and websvr-kit_name## are powered off.

Do not power on these virtual machines.

7. Verify that the virtual machines are located in the corresponding resource pools.

• fw-kit_name## in Local Services

• appsvr-kit_name## in Protected Application Servers

• dbsvr-kit_name## in Protected Database Servers

• websvr-kit_name## in Protected Web Servers

8. If any of the virtual machines are not in their respective resource pools, drag the virtual machine

into the correct resource pool.

9. Select Home > Inventory > VMs and Templates.

10. Expand the vCenter Server inventory and verify that folders exist in the inventory. Local Service VMs

• SRM Protected Services

• SRM Recovered Services

• vSphere Replication VMs

11. Verify that the virtual machines are located in the corresponding folders.

• fw-kit_name## in Local Service VMs

• appsvr-kit_name## in SRM Protected Services

• dbsvr-kit_name## in SRM Protected Services

• websvr-kit_name## in SRM Protected Services

12. If any of the virtual machines are not in their respective folders, drag the virtual machine into

the correct folder.

13. Rename the data center to be more descriptive.

a. Right-click the Training data center and select Rename.

b. Rename the data center from Training to your_name Site #, where your_name is your firstname and # is the number of your assigned ESXi host.

For example, if your first name is Andrew and you have been assigned the ESXi host

named esxi03, change the data center name to Andrew Site 3.

Task 3: Configure a Virtual Machine Port Group

You configure a virtual machine port group to be used by VMware vSphere® Replication.

Students should perform the steps in this task individually.

Use the following information from the class configuration handout:

• Virtual switch for your production network 

1. Select Home > Inventory > Hosts and Clusters.

2. Select your ESXi host in the inventory and click the Configuration tab.

3. In the Hardware panel, click the Networking link.

4. Click the Properties link next to the virtual switch for your production network that is specified

in the class configuration handout.

The vSwitch Properties dialog box is displayed.

5. In the dialog box, click Add.

The Add Network wizard starts.

6. When prompted by the Add Network wizard, perform the following actions.

7. In the vSwitch Properties dialog box, verify that the HBR-Net port group appears in the Ports

 pane.

8. Click Close.

9. Select File > Exit to close the vSphere Client.

Task 4: Install the vCenter Site Recovery Manager Software

You install the vCenter Site Recovery Manager software.

Students should perform the steps in this task individually.

Use the following information from the class configuration handout:

Option Action

Connection Type Accept the default selection (Virtual Machine) and click Next.

Virtual Machines –

Connection Settings

In the Network Label text box, replace the existing network

label by entering HBR-Net.

Leave the VLAN ID text box at its default value.

Click Next.

1. Go to the location of the installation software that is specified in the class configuration

handout.

2. Double-click the installer name that is specified in the class configuration handout.

3. If the Security Warning dialog box appears, click Run to continue.

4. In the VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager – InstallShield Wizard dialog box, select the

setup language that is specified in the class configuration handout and click OK .

5. When prompted by the installation wizard, perform the following actions.

License Agreement Select I agree to the terms in the license agreement and click

Next.

Destination Folder Use the default destination folder and click Next.

vSphere Replication Keep the default selection and click Next.

VMware vCenter Server In the vCenter Server Address text box, enter the vCenter Server

system FQDN that is specified in the class configuration handout.

NOTE

Ensure that you entered the vCenter Server system FQDN

correctly.

In the vCenter Server Port text box, keep the default value.

In the vCenter Server Username text box, enter the vCenter

Server system user name that is specified in the class configuration

handout.

In the vCenter Server Password, enter the vCenter Server system

 password that is specified in the class configuration handout.

Click Next.

When the security warning appears, click Yes.

Certificate Type Selection Keep the default selection and click Next.

Certificate Generation In the Organization text box, enter VMware.

In the Organization Unit text box, enter VMware.

Click Next.

VMware vCenter Site

Recovery Manager

Extension

In the Local Site Name text box, enter the site name that you used

for your data center: your_name Site #, where # is the number of

your ESXi host. Example: Andrew Site 1

In the Administrator E-mail text box, enter

[email protected] .

In the Local Host list box, select the vCenter Server IP address,

which is specified in the class configuration handout, from the

drop-down menu.

In the rest of the text boxes, keep the default values and click

Next.

6. When the installation is complete, click Finish to exit the installation wizard.

7. Verify that the VMware® vCenter™ Site Recovery Manager™ Server service has started.

a. From your vCenter Site Recovery Manager Server desktop, select Start > Administrative

Tools > Services.

b. Find VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager Server in the Name column.

c. Ensure that the Status column shows Started.

d. Close the Services window.

e. Close the Lab Files folder window.

Database Configuration In the Database Client list box, select the database client that is

specified in the class configuration handout.

In the Data Source Name list box, enter or select from the list the

ODBC data source name (DSN) that is specified in the class

configuration handout.

In the Username text box, enter the database user name that is

specified in the class configuration handout.

In the Password text box, enter the database password that isspecified in the class configuration handout.

In the rest of the text boxes, keep the default values and click

Next.

Task 5: Install the vCenter Site Recovery Manager Plug-In

You download and install VMware® vCenter® Site Recovery Manager™ Plug-In.

Students should perform the steps in this task individually.

Use the following information from the class configuration handout:

• Setup language

1. Double-click the vSphere Client icon on your desktop.

The login window is displayed.

2. Verify that the IP Address/Name text box value is the name of your vCenter Server system (orthe name, localhost).

3. Verify that the Use Windows session credentials check box is selected.

4. Click Login.

5. If a VMware Evaluation Notice appears, click OK .

6. In the menu bar, select Plug-ins > Manage Plug-ins.

The Plug-in Manager window is displayed.

7. Click the Download and Install link next to the VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager

Extension plug-in.

8. If a security warning is displayed, click Ignore.

NOTE

If you are unable to download and install the plug-in, restart the vSphere Client.

9. When the Open File Security Warning pop-up window is displayed, click Run to continue.

10. In the VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager Plugin – InstallShield Wizard dialog box,

select the setup language that is specified in the class configuration handout and click OK .

11. When prompted by the installation wizard, perform the following actions.

13. Monitor the Status column of the Plug-in Manager window.

14. Wait for the status of the vCenter Site Recovery Manager Extension plug-in to change fromInstalling to Enabled.

15. When the plug-in has been enabled, click Close to close the Plug-in Manager window.

Leave the vSphere Client open for the next lab.

click Next.

Pairing Sites

Objective: Configure a site pair 

In this lab, you will perform the following tasks:

1. Pair Your Site with Your Partner’s Site

2. View the Site Pair from the Remote Site

Task 1: Pair Your Site with Your Partner’s Site

You configure a connection between your site and your partner’s site. The site pairing can be

 performed from either the protected site or the recovery site.Students should perform this task as a team. The student at the lower-numbered site should perform

the steps in this task. For example, if you are at site 5 and your partner is at site 6, then you should

 perform the steps in this task.

Use the following information from the class configuration handout:

• vCenter Server system FQDN

• vCenter Server system user name

• vCenter Server system password

• Your partner’s vCenter Server system FQDN

• Remote vCenter Server system user name

• Remote vCenter Server system password

1. If you have not done so already, use the VMware vSphere® Client™ to log in to your

VMware® vCenter Server™ system.

Use the information that is specified in the class configuration handout.

2. On your vCenter Server system, go to the Home page.

3. Under Solutions and Applications, click Site Recovery.

4. If you are prompted by a warning, click Ignore.

NOTE

If you receive an error when you try to connect to VMware® vCenter™ Site Recovery

Manager™, close the vSphere Client, reopen it, and try again.

5. After connecting to vCenter Site Recovery Manager, verify that the site that you created is

displayed in the Sites panel of the vCenter Site Recovery Manager user interface.

6. Click the Summary tab.

7. Click the Configure Connection link in the Commands panel.

The Configure Connection wizard starts.

8. When prompted by the Configure Connection wizard, perform the following actions.

Remote Site

Information

In the Address text box, enter the fully qualified domain name

(FQDN) of your partner’s vCenter Server system, which is specified

in the class configuration handout.

Keep the default port value and click Next.

When the Validate vCenter Server Certificate dialog box is

displayed, click OK .

9. When prompted for the remote vCenter Server credentials, enter the remote vCenter Server

system user name and password that is specified in the class configuration handout and clickOK .

10. If one or more security warnings appear, click Ignore.

11. In the Sites panel, verify that both your site and your partner’s site are listed.

12. Select each site in the list, view its Summary, tab and verify that the status of both sites is

Connected.

Task 2: View the Site Pair from the Remote Site

You view the site pair from the remote site.

The student at the higher-numbered site should perform the steps in this task.

Use the following information from the class configuration handout:

• vCenter Server system user name

• vCenter Server system password

1. Using the vSphere Client on your vCenter Server system, go to the Home page.

2. Under Solutions and Applications, click Site Recovery.

3. If you are prompted by a warning, click Ignore.

vCenter Server

Authentication

In the User name text box, enter the remote vCenter Server system

user name that is specified in the class configuration handout. Remote

vCenter Server system is your partner’s vCenter Server system.

In the Password text box, enter the remote vCenter Server system

 password that is specified in the class configuration handout.

Click Next.

When the Validate vCenter Server Certificate dialog box is

displayed, click OK .

Complete Connections Monitor the progress of the connection tasks. When reciprocity is

established, click Finish.

In this lab, you will perform the following tasks:

1. Configure the vCenter Server Managed IP Address

2. Deploy a vSphere Replication Appliance

3. Configure the vSphere Replication Appliance

4. Configure a vSphere Replication Appliance Connection

5. Deploy a vSphere Replication Server Appliance

6. Register the vSphere Replication Server Appliance

Task 1: Configure the vCenter Server Managed IP Address

You set the value in the vCenter Server Managed IP text box. Configuring the VMware® vCenter

Server™ IP address is required for proper operation of the vCenter Extension vService. vCenter

Extension vService is used by the VMware vSphere® Replication appliance and the vSphere

Replication server appliance.

Students should perform the steps in this task individually.

Use the following information from the class configuration handout:

• vCenter Server system FQDN

1. Determine the vCenter Server IP address.

a. On your vCenter Server desktop, select Start > Command Prompt to open a Windows

Command Prompt window.

b. At the command prompt, run the nslookup command.

nslookup your_vCenter_Server_system_FQDN 

Your vCenter Server system fully qualified domain name (FQDN) is specified in the class

configuration handout.

c. Record your vCenter Server IP address. __________ 

d. At the command prompt, enter exit to close the Command Prompt window.

2. If you have not already done so, use the VMware vSphere® Client™ to log in to your vCenter

Server system.

Use the information that is recorded in the class configuration handout.

3. In the vSphere Client menu bar, click Administration and select vCenter Server Settings.

The vCenter Server Settings dialog box appears.

4. In the left pane, click Runtime Settings.

5. In the vCenter Server Managed IP text box, enter the vCenter Server IP address that you

recorded in step 1c.

6. Click OK .

Task 2: Deploy a vSphere Replication Appliance

You deploy the vSphere Replication appliance onto your VMware® ESXi™ host.

Students should perform the steps in this task individually.

Use the following information from the class configuration handout:

• vSphere Replication appliance FQDN

• vSphere Replication appliance datastore

• vSphere Replication appliance password

• vSphere Replication appliance IP address• vSphere Replication appliance netmask 

• vSphere Replication appliance gateway address

• vSphere Replication appliance DNS names

1. Select Home > Solutions and Applications > Site Recovery.

2. In the lower-left corner of the interface, click vSphere Replication.3. In the vSphere Replication panel, verify that your site is selected.

4. Click the Summary tab.

5. In the Commands panel, click the Deploy VR Appliance link.

6. When the Deploy VR Appliance informational message is displayed, click OK .

7. When prompted by the Deploy OVF Template wizard, perform the following actions.

Source The Open Virtualization Format (OVF) filename is already

entered. Click Next.

OVF Template Details Review the information and click Next.

 Name and Location In the Name text box, enter the vSphere Replication appliance

FQDN that is specified in the class configuration handout.

In the Inventory Location text box, expand the data center and

9. When the Deployment Completed Successfully dialog box appears, click Close.

Allow approximately 2 minutes for the appliance to boot and start all of its services. You can

monitor the appliance power-on operation and reconfiguration in the Recent Tasks pane.

10. Verify that your vSphere Replication appliance was created and booted successfully.

a. Select Home > Inventory > VMs and Templates.

b. Expand the vSphere Replication VMs folder in the inventory.

c. Select the appliance and click the Summary tab.

d. Verify that the appliance is powered on.

e. Monitor the VMware Tools field and wait for this field to have a status of Running.

When this field has a status of Running, the appliance has booted successfully.

8. Under Actions, click Save and Restart Service.

The vCenter Server’s SSL certificate is verified, the configuration is saved, and the VRM

service is restarted.

9. Verify that the configuration was successfully saved.

10. In the Configuration tab, scroll down until you see where you can install a new SSL certificate.

11. Click Generate and Install.

12. When the Confirm Certificate Generation dialog box is displayed, click OK  and wait for the

certificate to install.

The self-signed certificate is installed and the VRM service is restarted.

Task 4: Configure a vSphere Replication Appliance Connection

You configure a connection between the vSphere Replication appliances at each site.

However, you can deploy additional vSphere Replication servers to load-balance replication tasks.From your vSphere Client session, you deploy your vSphere Replication server at the recovery site,

which is your partner’s site.

10. Click the Placeholder Datastores tab.

11. Click the Configure Placeholder Datastore link.

NOTE

The dialog box displays the vCenter Server system of your partner’s site. If the

Verify that the Site#_HighPriorityVMs datastore appears in the

Target Location field.

Hard disk 1 Keep the Enable replication for this disk  check box selected.

In the Target Disk Type field, select Thin.

Click Next.

VR Server Keep the Auto-assign VR Server check box selected. You

have two VMware vSphere® Replication servers with which

you can load-balance replication. These servers are your partner’s vSphere Replication appliance (which contains the

vSphere Replication server), and the additional vSphere

Replication server that you deployed on your partner’s site.

Click Next.

Ready to Complete Click Finish.

7. Monitor the progress of the configuration task. When the task has completed successfully, click

OK  in the Configuration Replication dialog box.

If the virtual machine is not powered on, you receive a warning after the replication

configuration is complete. The warning states that the virtual machine must be powered on.

a. Click OK  in the Configure Replication Complete dialog box.

b. In the Hosts and Clusters inventory, right-click your database server virtual machine and

select Power > Power On.

The replication process continues.

8. Monitor the status of the replication process.

a. Select Home > Solutions and Applications > Site Recovery.

b. In the lower-left corner, click vSphere Replication.

c. In the vSphere Replication panel, select your partner’s site.

d. Click the Virtual Machines tab.

e. Monitor the Replication Status column and wait till the replication status changes to

This file contains comma-separated values on each line. The first line in the file identifies

the field names. For example, the first value in the second row is the virtual machine ID.

Similarly, the second value is the virtual machine name and the third value is the vCenter

Server name, the fourth value is the adapter ID, and so on.

b. Locate the two lines in this file that refer to your database server. For example, if your

database server is named dbsvr-apple01, then the lines look as shown in the screenshot.

c. Looking at the third field (vCenter Server), identify which vCenter Server system is at the

 protected site and which one is at the recovery site:

• vCenter Server at protected site __________ 

• vCenter Server at recovery site __________ 

d. Copy the two lines and in the fourth field, change the 0 to 1.

address is the IP address at the protected site for the database server virtual machine. You

recorded the protected site IP address in the table in step 2c. In the tenth field, the subnet

mask is 255.255.255.0.

In the second modified row, the ninth field (IP address) is changed to 10.10.10.105. This IP

address is the IP address at the recovery site for the database server virtual machine. You

recorded the recovery site IP address in the table in step 2c. In the tenth field, the subnet

mask is 255.255.255.0.

f. Similarly, modify lines for your application server and Web server.

The screenshot shows an example of what the file should look like after all modifications

are made.

You verify that the Recovery Plan Execute Test Begin alarmis triggered. You enabled this alarm in

an earlier lab.

Students should perform the step in this task individually:

1. Verify that your instructor received an email from you.

Your instructor has access to the mail server that you configured in an earlier lab. If your

instructor received an email from you after you began your recovery plan test, your alarm

works properly.

Task 3: Clean Up the Recovery Plan Test

You perform a cleanup of the recovery plan test.

Students should perform the steps in this task individually.

1. Select Home > Solutions and Applications > Site Recovery.

2. Right-click your recovery plan in the Recovery Plans panel and select Cleanup.

The Cleanup dialog box is displayed.

3. In the Cleanup Confirmation panel, view the values for the protected site, the recovery site, thesite connection, and the number of virtual machines and click Next.

4. Click Start.

5. Click the Recovery Steps tab and monitor the cleanup process.

6. Verify that the cleanup completes successfully by viewing the Summary tab.

7. After the cleanup process is complete, retrieve a report of the cleanup operation.

a. Click the History tab.

b. Select the cleanup operation and click the View link.

reverted back to placeholder virtual machines.

c. Click the Summary tab of these virtual machines and review the storage and network on

which these virtual machines are located.

You should find that your virtual machines are located on the placeholder datastore and arenot connected to a network.

Task 4: Perform a Planned Migration

You perform a planned migration.

Students should do the steps in this task individually.

1. Select Home > Solutions and Applications > Site Recovery.

2. Right-click your recovery plan in the Recovery Plans panel and select Recovery.

The Recovery dialog box is displayed.

3. Select the I understand that this process will permanently alter the virtual machines and 

infrastructure of both the protected and recovery datacenters check box.

4. Leave the Planned Migration check box selected and click Next.

5. Review the recovery information and click Start.

6. Monitor the recovery in the Recovery Steps tab.

7. Expand the recovery steps so that the substeps are displayed.

8. Verify that the virtual machines at your site (the protected site) are shut down, starting with the

lower priority virtual machines.

a. Verify that your database server powers on first.

b. Verify that your application server starts before the Web server.

In this lab, you will perform the following tasks:

Task 1: Perform a Reprotect

The reprotect operation protects your recovery site, which is where your virtual machines are

running. Your virtual machines are running at the recovery site as a result of the planned migration

that you performed in an earlier lab.

1. If you have not done so already, use the VMware vSphere® Client™ to log in to your

VMware® vCenter Server™ system.

Use the information that is specified in the class configuration handout.

2. Select Home > Solutions and Applications > Site Recovery.

3. Verify that the Recovery Plans panel is displayed.

4. Select your recovery plan in the left pane and click the Summary tab.

5. Right-click your recovery plan and select Reprotect.

The Reprotect dialog box is displayed. The new protected site is your partner’s site and the new

9. Expand the recovery steps so that the substeps are displayed.

10. Verify that the reprotect completes successfully by viewing the Summary tab and the history

report.

Task 2: Fail Back to the Original Protected Site

You fail back to the original, protected site. The failback process consists of performing a recovery

 plan test, a cleanup, a planned migration, and a reprotect.

Students should perform the steps in this task individually.

Use the following information from the class configuration handout:

• Original datastore

1. Select Home > Solutions and Applications > Site Recovery.

2. Select Recovery Plans in the lower-left pane.

3. Test the recovery plan to verify that the plan works after the reprotect operation.

a. Select your recovery plan and click the Test link.

The Test dialog box is displayed.

b. In the Test Confirmation panel, view the values for the protected site, recovery site, site

connection, and number of virtual machines.

c. Leave the Replicate recent changes to recovery site check box selected and click Next.

d. Click Start.

e. View the Summary tab and the Recovery Steps tab to monitor the progress of the

recovery plan test.

f. Verify that the recovery plan test completes successfully.

4. Clean up the recovery plan test.

a Select your recovery plan and click the Cleanup link

5. Perform a planned migration.

a. Select your recovery plan and click the Recovery link.

The Recovery dialog box is displayed.

b. Select the I understand that this process will permanently alter the virtual machines 

and infrastructure of both the protected and recovery datacenters check box.

c. Leave the Planned Migration check box selected and click Next.

d. Review the recovery information and click Start.

e. View the Summary tab and the Recovery Steps tab to monitor the progress of the planned

migration.

f. Verify that the planned migration completes successfully.

6. Click the Summary tab.

In this lab, you will perform the following tasks:

NOTE

Do the tasks in this appendix only if your vCenter Server inventory was not preconfigured for you.

The tasks in this appendix replace only task 1 in lab 1.

Task 1: Verify Your vCenter Server Inventory

You view your vCenter Server inventory and identify which objects have and have not been

configured for you.

Students should perform the steps in this task individually.

1. Use the Windows Services program to verify that the VMware VirtualCenter Management

Webservices and VMware VirtualCenter Server services are running.

a. From your VMware® vCenter Server™ desktop, select Start > Administrative Tools >

Services.

b. Scroll down the list and verify that the VMware VirtualCenter Management Webservices

and VMware VirtualCenter Server services are started.

c. If these services are not started, start them at this time.

d. Close the Services program.

2. On your vCenter Server desktop, double-click the VMware vSphere® Client™ icon.

d. If a VMware® Evaluation Notice is displayed, click OK .

3. To go to the Hosts and Clusters view, select Home > Inventory > Hosts and Clusters.

screenshot exist in the inventory.

If your inventory looks similar to the inventory shown here, do not proceed any further.

However, if any of these objects are missing from your inventory, go to the next task.

ATask 2: Create a Data Center and Add an ESXi Host

You create a data center and add your VMware® ESXi™ host to the data center.

8. Verify that appsvr-kit_name##, dbsvr-kit_name##, and websvr-kit_name## are powered off.

Do not power on these virtual machines.

Task 3: Create Resource Pools

You create the resource pool hierarchy.

Students should perform the steps in this task individually.

1. On your ESXi host, create a resource pool named Local Services.

a. Right-click your ESXi host in the inventory and select New Resource Pool.

The Create Resource Pool dialog box is displayed.

b. In the Name text box, enter Local Services.

c. Leave the rest of the fields at their defaults and click OK .

2. Repeat step 1 to create three resource pools named Protected Services, Recovered Services, and

vSphere Replication.

c. Leave the rest of the fields at their defaults.

6. In the Protected Services resource pool, create three child resource pools: Protected ApplicationServers, Protected Database Servers, and Protected Web Servers.

15. To power on the firewall virtual machine, right-click the firewall virtual machine and select

Power > Power On.

In the Hardware tab, select New Floppy (adding).

In the Device Type panel, select Use existing floppy image in

datastore and click Browse.

Double-click the virtual machine datastore that is specified in

the class configuration handout.

If you have an odd-numbered vCenter Server system name (for
