He will become the first-ever Indian to take part in the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game, the NBA said in a statement. Dindigul (TN), A 25-year-old maid servant was allegedly gangraped and murdered by three persons, including a neighbour, in an inebriated condition in Kodaikanal, police said today. The victim was alone in the house last night when the trio came and raped and murdered her, they said. Neighbours, who heard the victim's cries, nabbed one of the three accused identified as Sampath while others managed to escape, police said. Two youths injured in firing Ambala (Hr), Two youths were injured today when unidentified bike-borne youths allegedly fired at them near Khelan Malan village on the Haryana-Punjab border. The incident took place when the youths, identified as Lakhvinder and Dinesh, were returning to their village along with two others after attending a marriage ceremony in Khelan Malan village, police said. Educational degrees meaningless if youth takes to terrorism: Rajnath Mohanlalganj Decrying knowledge without values, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday said technical degrees held by youths become meaningless if they get involved in terror activities. In a subtle reference to instances of computer and IT engineers committing cyber crimes and often indulging in terrorism, Singh said education without values was doing more harm than good. Today, there are two ideologies. On one hand youths are bringing laurels to the country, while on the other there are those possessing technical degrees, who are involved in terror activities," he said. Knowledge was not everything and it must have moral values attached to it, he said while inaugurating Balram Krishna Academy here. The Home Minister said he was of the view that serious efforts were not made on the education front after Independence. "It is my personal view there were some shortcomings on making serious efforts on education front. Even after 68 years of Independence, a large number of population is still illiterate," he said. "The situation is such that a class VI student cannot read level three textbooks. If every person becomes literate and there is skill development, no power can stop all-round growth of the country," he said. Singh said that as Education Minister of Uttar Pradesh, he had brought Anti-copying Act. "We decided that those indulging in such practices will be put behind the bars. I also made a plan that education till class V should be imparted in mother tongue. Those who think that all knowledge comes from English are ignorant," he said. The Union Minister said Lord Macaulay disconnected the country from its ancient culture. "We became a victim of that. No other country possess the knowledge that India has. Even Pythagoras Theorem is copy of India. Foreign scholars have admitted this," he said. New Delhi The AAP was ahead of its rivals and had the most chances of taking power in Delhi, exit polls said on Saturday evening after assembly elections in the national capital ended with a record voter turnout of 67.08%. A defeat for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's BJP in Delhi would harm his chances of consolidating power in Parliament, where his reform agenda is being thwarted. Modi needs to win most of the state elections over the next four years to gain control of both Houses of Parliament to deliver on his promise of jobs and economic growth. The ABP-Nielsen survey gave the Aam Aadmi Party 43 seats and the Bharatiya Janata Party 26 seats. Any party will need at least 36 seats to form a government in Delhi. The Times Now-C-Voter survey said the AAP was poised to win 31-39 seats and the BJP 27-35. The India Today-Cicero put the AAP tally at 35-43 seats and of the BJP at 23- 29. The NDTV survey said the AAP could win 38 seats and the BJP 29. The Axis-APM poll, however, credited 53 seats to the AAP and 17 to the BJP. All five exit polls put the Congress at a distant third, giving the party zero to a maximum of four seats. Today's Chanakya also said that all social classes in the capital - Dalits, Muslims, Brahmins, OBCs, Banias and Punjabis - had voted more for the AAP. The percentage of Muslims voting for the AAP was as high as 71%. The AAP and the BJP were widely seen as the principal contenders for power in Delhi. After the exit polls predicted an AAP victory, party leader Arvind Kejriwal thanked the people of the city for voting for his party in large numbers. "My gratitude 2 Delhiites for their support," he tweeted. "(You are) so amazing. (You) rejected politics of caste and religion. Hope final results (are) as per exit polls." He also congratulated all "selfless volunteers of the AAP who worked round the clock for their country. AAP is bcoz of u." Elections took place in Delhi after over a year. An AAP government led by Kejriwal had stepped down from office in February 2014 after being in power for just 49 days. The voting followed a bitter campaign that was marked by the BJP and AAP trading accusations on a variety of issues, ranging from funding from dubious firms to Kejriwal's party to an advertisement issued by the BJP that caricatured Kejriwal and contained a reference to his caste that the AAP deemed derogatory. The BJP, which has been out of power in the national capital for 16 years, initially banked on the "Modi wave" to carry it to power in the Delhi assembly but later roped in former IPS officer Kiran Bedi and named her as its chief ministerial candidate. The AAP, which had been under a cloud after Kejriwal quit as chief minister in February last year when he failed to push through an anti- corruption law, surged back into the reckoning by appealing to youngsters and the middle class. Defiant Jitan Ram Manjhi sidelined; Nitish Kumar all set to take over Bihar’s rein Patna Sidelining defiant Jitan Ram Manjhi who has refused to step down, JD(U) Legislature Party today elected Nitish Kumar as its leader who will stake claim to form government in Bihar. Kumar, who had resigned as Chief Minister in the wake of party’s disastrous performance in Lok Sabha polls in May last year, was elected at a meeting attended by 97 of 111 JD(U) MLAs and 37 of the total 41 members of Legislative Council. The meeting, called by party President Sharad Yadav, took place shortly after Manjhi’s unsuccessful bid to have a Cabinet recommendation for dissolution of the Assembly. Earlier, a last- ditch attempt was made for a patch up between Manjhi and the group led by Kumar but it failed. Kumar’s election at the meeting, dubbed by the Chief Minister as “unauthorised”, paves the way for him to take over the mantle again by replacing Manjhi whom he had handpicked to after he had resigned. At the Cabinet meeting convened by Manjhi just before the Legislature Party meeting, a proposal was mooted for dissolving the Assembly. It was supported by seven ministers besides Manjhi, while 21 pro-Nitish Kumar ministers opposed it, state Finance Minister Bijendra Yadav told reporters. Kumar said Yadav will establish contact with Governor Kesrinath Tripathi to stake claim to form the government. He said that majority was with him “and if needed, we will parade our majority numbers”, apparently referring to support of RJD, Congress and CPI which takes his number well ahead of the majority mark in the 243-member Assembly. Yadav said a total of 130 JD(U) legislators, comprising MLAs and MLCs, are in support of Nitish Kumar. Notice had been sent to 111 MLAs and 41 MLCs for attending the meeting convened by Yadav.polls due later this year. Mumbai to get 6,000 CCTV cameras by 2016 Mumbai The long-pending proposal for electronic surveillance in Mumbai finally got underway Saturday with the Maharashtra government signing an agreement to install 6,000 CCTV cameras by September 2016, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said here. The project, estimated to cost Rs.949 crore, will be executed by infrastructure major Larsen & Toubro (L&T) across the city and suburbs, he said on the occasion of the completion of 100 days of the BJP- Shiv Sena government. "The CCTVs network would ensure safer city of the citizens and help Mumbai Police maintain law and order and augment traffic management. It will also help detect crime and effectively tackle criminal activities," Fadnavis told mediapersons here. The plan was first announced by the erstwhile Congress- NCP government soon after the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, but was stalled as four tenders floated for the project failed to elicit a response. The project shall be implemented in three phases with south Mumbai expected to be under CCTV cover by November, followed by the second phase covering north and east Mumbai by April 2016.

“I am sure the results would change if the surveys take into accountvoting post 3 PM. They are incomplete as the turn out from 3 PMto 6 PM has not been included. Then the verdict may go in BJP'sfavour” - BJP rival Kiran Bedi rejected the exit poll results.

Dividing Lines: AAPrises again

Politics has a way of pulling surprises on the best ofstrategists. Textbook-style, Amit Shah of the BharatiyaJanata Party is the Carl von Clausewitz of Indianelections, a master strategist who has created themassive BJP electoral victory. Yet I wish I was a flyon the wall in Mr Shah’s office today. He must becompletely puzzled by the current happenings in Delhi.Arvind Kejriwal and the Aam Aadmi Party are drivingthe BJP crazy. I was thinking out Mr Shah’s strategy. He must have thought that Modi’s victories elsewherewould add to the Delhi kitty. And he was probablyhoping that the AAP’s 49-day reign would have leftthe impression of an anarchist, immature party. Yet,as the polls indicate, the AAP is bubbling to the topand Mr Kejriwal is as effervescent as ever. Even thedesertions of AAP activists did not help. Shazia Ilmilooks like an apologetic version of herself, semaphoring to people that she is more addicted topower than politics. The BJP, which was expecting tosweep Delhi and complete the Modi wave, is sensingthe tide turn. Its anxiety about the results is seen inthe overkill of responses. It summoned all BJP MLAsto campaign. It made Kiran Bedi its chief ministerialcandidate, in an attempt to trump the AAP with anAAP-like candidate. Only Ms Bedi looks wooden, isalmost robotic in her responses. The claim that SushmaSwaraj and others make that women will be safe inDelhi with Ms Bedi as chief minister, is silly. They areoverprojecting her role as the lathi-charging cop, hoping it would add to her law and order imagewithout realising that it is vitiating her role as aprotester. One senses the BJP’s anxiety on TV as itsseasoned professionals clash with young AAP activistslike Raghav Chadha. These younger politicians lookfresh and are able to steal points from the stalwarts. The nature of the drama has changed. Mr Shah,Machia-vellian as he is, will realise that Mr Kejriwal’scampaign has an ethical edge that the BJP cannotproduce in Delhi. Mr Kejriwal looks animated, smileslike a common man. Ms Bedi is too mechanical, sounding like a character from some old-fashionedplay. The brilliance of Mr Kejriwal is that he hasbecome the centrepiece of the election. He is the issue. He attracts attention with his puckish style and hispromises sound idealistic. Mr Shah must be feelingthat he is commanding a wooden army. Strategy is noanswer to the creativity, the unexpected style of MrKejriwal. He still sounds like the boy next door. One can relate to him. Ms Bedi appears and behaveslike a parcel dropped from heaven. Even BJPloyalists must be wondering what they did todeserve this outsider who speaks neither theirlanguage nor claims their genealogy. What can MrShah do in this context? He cannot summon backHarsh Vardhan, who would have been the perfectfoil to Mr Kejriwal. He knows that in turning Delhielections into a mega show, he has created aspectacle of anxiety. Creating a department of dirtytricks will not help. The BJP is not a pristine party, but a matter-of-fact bunch of business operators.
