Annual Picnic Needs

One of the many things that contributes to the success of our annual Parish Picnic, is the fact that our parishioners step up to help Sponsor the Picnic, to make cash dona-tions (so the committee can purchase needed supplies and other items), and to donate Gift Cards that can be used as prizes and incentives. Please contact the parish office; 920.435.7548 to make your donation.

The Bakery Tent is in need of homemade cinnamon rolls, donuts, cookies, bars, breads, pies, tortes, kolaches, etc. and gluten free, nut free, sugar free items. Please drop off Sat, Aug. 17th in church hall, or Sun, Aug. 18th at the Bakery Tent. Thank you!

Society of St. Vincent de Paul

In today's Gospel, Jesus tells us about a selfish man who saves all his wealth so he can have a good life in his retirement years.

And then he dies and never enjoys the fruits of his labor.

Hopefully all of us have a good retirement plan, but that is not the point of this Gospel. We need to learn that life does not consist of how much wealth we have, nor of our perceived sense of security.

Our lives are possessed by God! He is in charge of our wealth, our future, our existence. The next time you make a gift to St. Vincent de Paul to show your love for your brothers and sisters in need, ask for the grace to be truly "possessed by God." It will make your life a lot more relaxed and worry-free.

Thank You & God Bless You! ~ Paul Novotny

We are called one by one to a life of missionary discipleship to share our faith with those who need to hear and see it most.

The one by One capital campaign will raise funds to strengthen and ensure the future our parishes, enhance Catholic education, broaden social services programs and living justice ministries, care for our seminarians, and help parishes address critical needs.

This campaign will empower each of us to transform our communities as missionary disciples – as we share the healing, teaching, and loving presence of Jesus where we live, work, and pray.

Dear & Good People of God,

Welcome to the 18th Sunday in Ordinary Time!

\

During these weeks of Summer, I have decided to share with you from the Sunday Reflections of someone who I know is a favorite of yours—as he is of mine: Dr. Scott Hahn.

Scriptural Meditation from Dr. Scott Hahn

Trust in God—as the Rock of our salvation, as the Lord who made us His chosen people, as our shepherd and guide. This should be the mark of our following of Jesus.

Like the Israelites we recall in this week’s Psalm, we have made an exodus, passing through the waters of Baptism, freeing us from our bondage to sin. We too are on a pilgrimage to a promised homeland, the Lord in our midst, feeding us heavenly bread, giving us living waters to drink (see 1 Corinthians 10:1–4).

We must take care to guard against the folly that befell the Israelites, that led them to quarrel and test God’s goodness at Meribah and Massah.

We can harden our hearts in ways more subtle but no less ruinous. We can put our trust in possessions, squabble over earthly inheritances, kid ourselves that what we have we deserve, store up treasures and think they’ll afford us security and rest.

All this is “vanity of vanities,” a false and deadly way of living, as this week’s First Reading tells us.

This is the greed that Jesus warns against in this week’s Gospel. The rich man’s anxiety and toil expose his lack of faith in God’s care and provision.

That’s why Paul calls greed “idolatry” in the Epistle this week. Mistaking having for being, possession for existence, we forget that God is the giver of all that we have.

We exalt the things we can make or buy over our Maker (see Romans 1:25).

Jesus calls the rich man a “fool”—a word used in the Old Testament for someone who rebels against God or has forgotten Him (see Psalm 14:1).

We should treasure most the new life we have been given in Christ and seek what is above, the promised inheritance of heaven.

We have to see all things in the light of eternity, mind-ful that He who gives us the breath of life could at any moment—this night even—demand it back from us.

QUESTIONS OF THE WEEK:

Do I truly “trust in God” as my Lord, my shepherd, and my guide?” How can I help others to trust in Him?

Do I have any possessions that I would have a hard time giving up? How can I practice the virtue of detachment?

Upcoming Events at Ss. Peter & Paul: Saturday & Sunday, August 3rd & 4th ~ Outreach Priests from Cross-Catholic will be celebrating the weekend Masses at both of our parishes; Ss. Peter & Paul, and St. Mary of the Angels.

Sunday, August 18th ~ Annual Parish Picnic! Save the date and plan to bring Family, Friends, and Neighbors! Please See Raffle Ticket Notice on the Top of Page 3. Also—See Articles on Pages 2 & 3 to learn how you can help make sure this year’s Picnic is the Best Ever!

Are Your Children Registered for the Year?

Our parish is fortunate to be able to offer an excellent Faith Formation/Religious Education program for all of your children in grades 1 through 12.

The price is right: Only $55 for new students, and then $45 for returning students. AND — No student is ever turned away if a family cannot afford the full price.

Every year, we have people who wait until after registration has closed, and then come in—wanting to get their children into classes. This is why we begin registration so early—hoping to accommodate as many as possible. Once registration is closed, it really is closed.

Peace & Good to You & Your Families!

~Fr. Tony & Fr. Ponce, & Parish Staff

~ Paz, bendiciones, y buen verano! Padre Tony, Padre Ponce, y el personal de tu parroquia
