STUDENT SECTION ACTIVITY REPORT
Introduction:
ASME UET Taxila Chapter is a well-established, internationally recognized student section,
active in organizing as well as participating in events, both at national and international
levels. The chapter is engaged for conducting technical and non-technical activities for the
grooming and learning of the society members as well as other students of the institute.
Strong roots have been established for the ASME tree to burgeon and play a marked role in
the history of institute. On one hand it lets the students to acquire full benefit by arranging
Industrial Tours and organizing seminars & contests on the contrary it provides them with a
platform through which they can represent their university at national and international level.
From Leadership Seminars to the ASME Fun Week, from Technical Excursions to the
Technical Olympiads and from Coaching Classes to CEO Talks, all sorts of co-curricular and
extra-curricular activities are bounded in fence of this ASME Chapter.
Excursion to KSB Pumps:
KSB Pakistan is an affiliate Company of the world famous German KSB Group, which was
founded in 1871. KSB Pakistan was established in July 1959 in Lahore. The production
facilities at HassanAbdal were completed in 1964 and a full-fledged foundry was
commissioned in the same premises in 1980. Now the Company employs over 400 people
and has Sales Offices at Lahore, Karachi, Quetta, Rawalpindi, Peshawar and Multan
Its products comprise of 20% pumps (centrifugal) & 80% automotive parts.
A group of 70 members of ASME UET Taxila Chapter visited different sections of the
company and enhanced their knowledge regarding pump manufacturing.
Career Building Conference:
For the professional well-being of young engineers, ASME UET Taxila Chapter is keen in
organizing seminars and conferences. It aims to impart leadership, managerial and
administrative skills in young engineers. In this regard, ASME UET Taxila Chapter
organized a Career Building Conference. A delegation from Sprint Oil & Gas Services
delivered lecture on Career Building in Oil & Gas Sector .The basic purpose of Conference
was to create awareness among the students regarding career opportunities in a multinational
organizations. The delegation also guided the students in CV building for their future job
prospects.
Introductory Seminar for freshman:
ASME UET Taxila Chapter organized an introductory seminar for the new session.
Introductory session was meant to apprise freshmen about the society and chapter. It briefed
them about previous competitions and achievements of the society. The response from the
students were overwhelming, a number of almost 250 students attended the session. This
session was about motivating the students to join the society and improve their technical and
leadership skills. Students asked various questions about their role in the ASME and how
ASME International helps them in their student and professional lives.
#RecruitmentDrive_14:
After the introductory seminar ASME UET Taxila Chapter started its recruitment drive to
recruit volunteers for the year 2014-2015.Recruitment drive lasted for a week. It involved
complete publicity of the chapter on social media. Through this recruitment drive the fresh
students came to know about the laurels and distinctions achieved by alumni of ASME UET
Taxila Chapter. The basic purpose of recruitment drive was to motivate and prompt the new
students to join ASME UET Taxila Chapter so that they may also bring the best out of
themselves.
At the end of recruitment drive ASME UET Taxila Chapter held an interview session to
shortlist the applicants. Almost 200 students appeared for the interviews and team ASME
shortlisted 100 out of them.
En Route de HMC IV:
Heavy Mechanical Complex is a leading engineering goods manufacturing enterprise in
Taxila. HMC is a professionally managed progressive organization with over 160,000 sq.
meters covered facilities and 1,100 employees. HMC has the resources to handle large
projects with demanding delivery schedules. ASME UET Taxila Chapter organized an
industrial tour solely for the students of 1st semester. More than 70 students visited different
sections of the industry. They were highly motivated but a bit nervous too after seeing the
hard job that a Mechanical Engineer has to perform in the industry.
Inauguration of Woman in Engineering:
Importance of Women in engineering is commensurated highly. In this regard ASME UET
Taxila Chapter took the initiative and created an entirely new platform for female students
of UET. Women in Engineering is a unique platform providing opportunities to the female
engineers in a versatile manner, giving them leadership role in the society. The mission of
WIE ASME UET Taxila is to facilitate the recruitment and retention of women in technical
events and modules. WIE envisions a vibrant community of ASME women and men
collectively using their diverse talents to innovate for the better future.
ASME UET Taxila Chapter organized a seminar on the role of Women in Engineering.
Female professionals from Corporate Sector delivered lecture and share their experiences. In
this seminar ASME UET Taxila Chapter officially inaugurated its new venture Woman in
Engineering.
Industrial Projects:
ASME UET Taxila chapter believes in excellence in every aspect. It particularly focuses on
professional and technical upbringing of its members. It motivates its members to link with
industry and to get benefit of industry-academia linkage. Recently the executive members of
ASME UET Taxila chapter were assigned two projects by a leading cement industry, Fauji
Cement Company Limited Jhang.
The team ASME UET Taxila is working day & night for the grooming, professional well-
being and to impart leadership, managerial & administrative skills in the young engineers of
the institute. The success we have achieved is due to the guidance of the Advisor, ASME
UET Taxila Chapter and the kindness & cooperation of Chairman, Mechanical Engineering
Department and the Dean, Faculty of Mechanical & Aeronautical Engineering. The
assistance of SDOB team, ASME Pakistan and ASME International is also worth mentioning
in this regard. The team ASME UET Taxila is hopeful that, with this continuing support of
the forth mentioned authorities, we will touch the sky of success very soon.
