Every year 20,000 men and women leave the Armed Forces to return to civilian life. Many individuals complete the transition successfully but for others it can be a period of uncertainty, upheaval and even fear. They struggle to find accommodation, to secure a job and to build new support networks. In some cases the strain is so great that the ultimate outcome can be family breakdown and homelessness. SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, has launched Success Beyond Service to raise money to help service men and women and their families transition successfully. We believe they deserve support to ensure their skills and experiences are not wasted. We have been supporting the Armed Forces community for 131 years and last year we helped over 60,000 people. An increasing proportion of our beneficiaries are veterans of working age who are struggling with civilian life. We provide practical, emotional and financial help with issues like homelessness, debt and isolation. We signpost veterans to health, education and employment services. Our mentoring programme helps wounded, sick and injured service personnel return to civilian life and, where appropriate, to look for employment. We also support the families struggling with their own practical and emotional challenges. Help us serve those who served by ensuring they can enjoy full and rewarding lives when they return to civvy street – now and in the future.
