Editorial
Scuba Schools International (SSI),the premiere education andbusiness support companycontinues to grow with greatsuccess! We have received theGlobal ISO Certification and thequality label for our new DiveProfessional Programs is in placefor their release the beginning ofJuly.
Since 1970, SSI has been a leaderin professional diving education. Most people focus on gettinga "real job," however; there are many employmentopportunities in the scuba industry that fit this label. Diveretailers and resorts have immediate openings for qualifiedprofessionals domestically and around theworld. With SSI being one of the fastestgrowing training agencies in the world, thereare huge career opportunities that have beencreated.
The special cooperation with the retail group,LIDL has been a true success. Within the firstweek, more than 10,000 people registered forthe FREE Online Training. Within the next fewweeks, we should find out the number ofpeople who actually come into an SSI DiveCenter to complete their Open Water Divercertification.
In 2010, we have continued our push for further growth as well as aimed to improve allDiver and Dive Professional services. Therefore, we have hired Bettina Hanika in ourMarketing department. Bettina will beresponsible for the SSI Brand Image alongwith regular communication with you, the Dive Professionals.

Have you thought about yourpartner in the area of dive traininglately? With our 40th anniversary,we would like to take this opportunityto share with you some of theaspects of SSI along with theservices we offer. You may be verywell aware of these or there mightbe one or two that you weren'taware until now…
SSI is an international trainingagency operating in the diveindustry since 1970. With over2,400 Dive Centers and DiveResorts in more than 110countries, educational materialstranslated in 25 languages and 40years of experience in diver andsnorkeler education, SSI is a signof quality. SSI is one of the fewtraining organizations worldwidewhich holds the Global ISO(International Standards Organization)Certificate. Five SSI Diver Programsand two Dive Professional Programsreceived the confirmation that theyfulfill the international qualitystandards (ISO Norm 24801-1 to-3for divers and ISO Norm 24802-1 to-2 for dive professionals). This iswhy the SSI Certification Cards cancarry the ISO quality label. Besidesplaying a leading role in the divingindustry, SSI is also a foundingmember of the Recreational ScubaTraining Council (RSTC). What thismeans to you is that SSI isrecognized anywhere you want totrain.
The SSI System is the mostflexible and adaptable educationsystem in the industry. The abilityto adapt training to local conditionsand students' needs while stayingwithin standards enables SSI DiveCenters and Dive Resorts to offerreal-world programs in order to trainsafe and competent divers. Thefoundation for flexibility is the 80/20rule. This rule means that only 80%
of the scope is provided by theteaching system while the remaining20% is based on the decision of theInstructor. With this flexibility, SSIDive Professionals are notsqueezed into an "over-standardized" teaching system andthey can enjoy the teachingexperience by integrating their ownexperiences. This feature benefitsthe individual development of thestudents and helps to train loyaldivers.
SSI offers the whole range ofdiving programs from Snorkelingand Freediving to kids' scuba andup to technical diving. Due to thisvariety and the flexibility of the
system, each Dive Center can offerunlimited program combinations tofulfill the needs of each individualcustomer. Students have the optionto learn the academics by homestudy and/or by FREE OnlineTraining. This allows the Instructorto spend more time in the water withthe students permitting them tobecome more confident andcomfortable.
SSI is the only training agencywhich offers FREE OnlineTraining for Snorkeling, TryScuba and Open Water Diver. SSIsees online training as a pureacquisition tool for new customersand not as an additional source of

New Diver Stress & Rescue ProgramAvailable Immediately
We have added an additionalsession to the Diver Stress &Rescue Program to allow morepractical application for theparticipants. The program nowconsists of 2 Academic Sessions,3 Pool Sessions and 3 OpenWater Sessions. The InstructorManual and the Cue-Cards havebeen revised and a set of PEGs(PowerPoint Presentation) hasbeen developed to supplementthe program.
New Dive Control Specialist Program Available Immediately

This program is the entry point toa Dive Professional Career withSSI. The material includes:

News Enriched Air Nitrox Program - Available: Quarter 4, 2010
The beginning of the fourth quarter, 2010 the new Enriched Air Nitrox program will beavailable in it's entirety. The program has been completely revised with an adjustmentintegrating both EAN 32 and EAN 40. All information has been brought up to date with more emphasis being madeon dive computers rather than dive tables. Therefore, making the program ideal for teaching in either traditionalprograms or in holiday regions.The student and instructor manuals have been revised and a new set of PEGs (PowerPoint Presentation) is availableto supplement the program.
New Specialty InstructorManuals - Available Immediately
All Specialty Instructor Manualshave been completely revised. Inaddition, a new set of PEGs(PowerPoint Presentation)is available to complementeach Specialty Program.

INSTRUCTOR UPGRADE PROCEDURES
Implementation of the New Dive Professional Programs starting July 15, 2010
The new dive professional programs - Dive Guide, Divemaster and DiveControl Specialist are now certifiable within ODiN as of June 15, 2010.Existing Dive Professionals will need to update/upgrade in order to achievenew training qualifications.
Advanced Open Water Instructor UpgradeThe Advanced Open Water Instructor will be able to upgrade to teach DiveGuides by either going online or attending the first day of a Dive ControlSpecialist Instructor (DCSI) Update with an Instructor Trainer. The AdvancedOpen Water Instructor will need to purchase an Upgrade Kit at the SSIService Center to do the online update or from the Instructor Trainer whenjoining a DCSI update program.
Upgrade Duration: 1 Day with an Active Instructor Trainer or the onlineupdate.
Upgrade Agenda: Explanation of the new Dive Guide Program, EvaluationCriteria and Training Standards.
Upgrade Package: Advanced Open Water Instructor Price € 89.- without VAT

Consequence of Not Upgrading:
Current Advanced Open WaterInstructors who do not wish toupdate will not receive the instructorratings for teaching Science ofDiving or Dive Guide.

Dive Control Specialist Instructor UpgradeThe Dive Control Specialist Instructor may attend an upgrade program withan active Instructor Trainer. Due to the Dive Control Specialist InstructorTraining in Europe, Middle East and Africa, for those DCSI Candidates whoattend an entire Instructor Training Course, the upgrade program with anInstructor Trainer is optional.
The Dive Control Specialist Instructor will need to purchase an Upgrade Kitfrom the Instructor Trainer prior to attending the upgrade program.
For the Upgrade the Dive Control Specialist Instructor must purchaseUpgrade Kit at the SSI Service Center or directly from the Instructor Trainer,if he/she attends an Upgrade Program.
Upgrade Duration: 2 Days with on Active Instructor Trainer, if not attendingthe DCSI Training in Europe, Middle East or Africa.

In order toensure a smooth transition, we willbe shipping the previous DiveControl Specialist Kits until theScience of Diving is available toship. As soon as the Science ofDiving Materials are available, thenwe will start shipping out the newDive Control Specialist Materials.
All Dive Control Specialist Programswhich were started with the previousmaterials need to be completed by31 December, 2010. All upgrades forInstructors also need to becompleted by 31 December, 2010as the ODiN system has to bereprogramed to reflect the changes.

Scuba Schools International (SSI)the premier education and businesssupport company receives theprestigious ISO (InternationalStandards Organization) certificationworldwide.
As of June 1, 2010, Scuba SchoolsInternational is one of the fewtraining agencies which holds theGlobal ISO Certification. Seven SSIPrograms, five for divers and two forinstructors, received theconfirmation that they fully met theinternational quality standards (ISO11121 for Try Scuba Diving, ISO24801-1 to -3 for Scuba Diver toDive Guide, ISO 11107 for EnrichedAir Nitrox and 24802-1 and -2 forDive Control Specialist and OpenWater Instructor.) Due to this, theSSI Certification Cards will carry theISO quality label for the appropriateratings.
