We are saddened by the passing of Jack Rust, Jack was a partner and principal owner of Mega from 1983 to 2004. Excerpts from the obituary that ran in the Albuquerque Journal do a much better job than we could in describing Jack's wonderful life: Jack Rust was born in Bloomington, Illinois in 1925 and passed away on July 8, 2012. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Donna, 5 children, 10 grandchildren and devoted canine pal, Rosie. Graduating in 1943 from Bloomington High School, he enlisted in the Army and later received his West Point appointment. At West Point, Jack became a Cadet Captain and company commander. He played football and lacrosse and was named to the All-American lacrosse team in 1947, 1948 and 1949. He was inducted into the Army Sports Hall of Fame in 2009. After graduating in 1949, Jack served in the 6th Armored Cavalry in Europe. He resigned his commission to go into business while continuing to serve in the United States Army Reserve and retired as a colonel in 1985. Jack's love affair with New Mexico began in 1960 with an offer from Caterpillar Tractor to take over the Albuquerque dealership from R. L. Harrison. He expanded the territory to include all of New Mexico and West Texas. For over 42 years, Jack successfully led Rust Tractor Company with passion, integrity and love of his customers and business partners, including over 400 employees. Jack led a life of effective leadership and meaningful service. Jack and Donna have been leading philanthropists in this community, making a variety of carefully considered gifts to such key New Mexico institutions as Presbyterian Hospital, United Way, Albuquerque Community Foundation, UNM, CNM and NDI-NM. A central theme of many of these gifts has been to enhance the education, health and ethical climate of our state. At the dedication of the Presbyterian Rust Medical Center it was noted that, "Everywhere they go, Jack and Donna Rust improve the lives of others." Always a team player, he not only jumped in but enlisted other friends and community leaders to join forces to create opportunities for the betterment of others. He was an All-American in mind, heart and spirit. His unwavering ethics, leadership and courage were appreciated by the many boards that he founded and served on throughout the years. Rest in peace Jack Rust, you were a dedicated family man, a world-class fly fisherman, a strong soldier, an old school business man, a baby whisperer, a lover of chocolate chip cookies, a collector of abandoned golf balls, a champion gin rummy player, and a man of great integrity. You left the world a better place than you found it and will be missed by a great many people. COME SEE US AT BOOTH 7389!

Mega is pleased to announce that we will have a display at the 2012 MinExpo® in Las Vegas, Nevada in September. Mega will be displaying its new MES34 elevating scraper and our new Digital Spray Control System. We will be located in the Central Hall in Booth 7389. The dates of the show are September 24-26th at the Las Vegas Convention Center. If you are planning to attend, please stop by!

Along with the base Digital Spray Control System, Mega is offering an optional accessory that allows the operator to automatically control the amount of water applied to road surfaces based on ground speed. This system works with the existing Mega spray system hardware – water pumps, hydraulic motors, spray heads and electro-hydraulic controls. The system is available for use with most Mega water products and offers the following additional benefits over the base system:

GPS SPEED SENSING ~ The system uses GPS data to determine speed. The GPS system is universal – there is no special application-specific engineering required and the system is not vulnerable to contamination like radar-based systems.

SELF-CONTAINED ~ The system does not require connections to other vehicle systems to determine speed. Because it is self-contained, it is easy to adapt to a wide variety of machine applications.

AUTOMATIC WATER CONSUMPTION REDUCTION ~ The spray control system utilizes a PWM (pulse width modulation) strategy to automatically limit the amount of water consumed based on vehicle speed while maintaining road dust control coverage. Utilizing the PWM strategy avoids the addition of complex and costly variable flow hydraulic systems and the resulting impact on machine reliability.

AUTOMATIC SHUT-OFF ~ The system automatically shuts off the flow of water as the vehicle comes to a stop to prevent puddling. Spraying automatically resumes as the machine begins to move again.

FAIL-SAFE ~ In the event the system loses its GPS speed signal or otherwise malfunctions, the system reverts to manual mode and allows the machine to continue operating with full capability in the original, manual mode until repairs can be made – no need to immediately down the machine.

VERSATILITY ~ The system is adaptable to most Mega water equipment and can be easily added in the field to machines originally equipped with the base system described above. The control system can be retrofitted to many older models of water distribution equipment equipped with Mega spray systems without replacing any hardware. And the entire system can be used with competitive water tanks as well.

RELIABILITY ~ The system utilizes the same Mega water pump, hydraulic motors, spray heads and electro-hydraulic controls. There are no complex modifications to the vehicle's hydraulic systems or powertrain – in fact these interfaces do not change at all. The same durable Mega spray system components are maintained with all of the same parts supply, technical support and documentation.
