Sunbury Residents Association president Bernie OFarrell said people wanted to see a greater focus on Sunburys needs in future budgets.

We dont accept the auditors ndings our expectation is that, while we remain part of Hume, the town will get its fair share.

Mr OFarrell said inadequate carparking remained a perennial problem.

As reported by Star Weekly in June, the council defended claims its 2015-16 budget was too focused on the east of the municipality. Cr Jack Ogilvie voted against the budget, saying there was little in it for Sunbury. He claimed

Hume council has promised to ensure Sunbury continues to receive a fair deal in future budgets.

With the question of an independent Sunbury settled, for now, chief executive Domenic Isola said the town has not suered as a result of the uncertainty of recent years.

I dont like the notion that we havent looked aer it, because we have, he said.

Mr Isola said the council would continue to look aer the municipality as a whole when preparing budgets, allocating capital works funding on an as-needs basis.

eres always people peeking over the back fence to see what someone else has got, but we sit there and look at what is the highest priority.

e previous governments gazettal of orders for a new Sunbury council was formally rescinded last week.

Mr Isola said the council was working on plans for a global learning centre and heated hydrotherapy pool in Sunbury.

Were also looking at what we do with a third [railway] crossing and carparking. All of these projects get put onto an overall list and the councillors go through with the ocers assistance and look at the highest priorities.

all the big money was being spent in areas such as Craigieburn.

Mr Isola pointed to plans for a new warm water pool at Sunbury Aquatic Centre ($400,000), new civic centre designs ($2million) and reconstruction of a Wildwood Road bridge.

A total of $1.75 million has been set aside to redevelop Clarke Ovals McMahon pavilion, and $650,000 for the refurbishment of the Langama Park pavilion.

Sunbury Community Progress Association previously said it believed the town continued to get a fair deal.

Romseys Sabrina Parrini is preparing to race up Australias tallest building for the second time and this time she will compete as a vegan.

Ms Parrini, who credits the switch to an animal product-free diet for leaving her feeling less sluggish, has stepped up her training regime for this years Eureka Climb.

More than 2500 people have entered Sundays 88-oor event, which raises money for youth charity Whitelion and Interplast Australia.

Ms Parrini says weekly trips to the CBD for formal training arranged by event organisers have helped her preparation.

Ive never done formal training like this, so thats been really helpful, just to get you into that mindset, she says.

In previous years Ive just been going down Hanging Rock and doing a lot of training outdoors.

But this year its included stairwells and that sort of thing.

Having previously competed as a vegetarian, Ms Parrini says her plant-based diet hasnt hindered performance.

I feel a little bit sore the day aer training, but it seems to disappear pretty quickly.

A group calling for more action on climate change will present a 3500-signature petition to Macedon Ranges council this Tuesday.

e Macedon Ranges Green Energy Coalition wants the council to commit to becoming carbon neutral by 2020.

e group is seeking a stand-alone climate change policy and recommends the installation of solar panels on all council buildings, at an estimated cost of $1 million.

Coalition co-ordinator Rob Bakes said supporters were being encouraged to make colourful banners and attend Tuesdays petition handover in Kyneton ahead of a Peoples Climate Rally through the streets of the town on November 29.

Mr Bakes said people were frustrated that various levels of government were still merely talking about action on climate change.

If we can get ordinary citizens to advise their elected representatives in a serious way, where they will take notice of it, then well get better outcomes, he said.

e council has previously said calls for emissions reduction targets and the installation of solar panels would be considered as part of its new environment strategy but the coalitions suggested timeframe was not feasible.

e council recently gave in-principle support to RMIT Universitys greenhouse challenge to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions.

Many women experience some form of baby blues in the days aer having a child. But when Sunburys Leanne Schultz gave birth to her daughter almost 12 years ago, she became enveloped by something quite dierent.

She was born on a Monday and I started crying on the Wednesday, and it just didnt stop, Ms Schultz says. By the time she was 10 days old, I had a brief episode of psychosis.

Aer a stay in hospital, Ms Schultz began attending Sunbury Community Healths mother to mother post-natal depression (PND) support group.

She says the non-judgmental nature of the peer to peer group was crucial to her recovery.

Women who have experienced the lifesaving assistance provided by the group are being invited to a reunion this Wednesday.

e group was run out of the Macedon Street centre for 24 years before going into hiatus in March.

Ms Schultz, whose daughter Angela turns 12 this week, said while she had been referred to a psychiatrist and put on medication, it wasnt until she connected with SCH counsellor Terrie Hollingsworth that things began to really improve.

e group became my lifeline. We didnt have any family here, she said. ey say it takes a village to raise a child. We didnt have a village, but we formed one there.

Ms Schultz, who has gone on to complete a psychology degree and now works as a counsellor, said the group helped create real and lasting relationships.

My best friends are women who were in that group when our children were babies.

Its the power of peer support. Whats behind PND might be dierent for every woman, but

Mums face PND best togetherat the end of it, every woman there is having a terrible time.

SCHs Ms Hollingsworth said she had no doubt the group had saved the lives of a number of women, with some actively suicidal when they were rst referred.

Members frequently maintained contact in between meetings and, aer the advent of social media, kept in touch via a closed Facebook group.

It allowed women to feel safe enough to disclose what they thought were really quite frightening thoughts and experiences about motherhood, Ms Hollingsworth said.

ey gained a tremendous amount of reassurance and learnt to trust themselves and their own abilities by being able to share those fears.

e group was put on hold due to declining numbers, but Ms Hollingsworth hopes something similar will take its place. Both Ms Schultz and Ms Hollingsworth said while online forums could be helpful, nothing could replace face to face contact.

Ms Hollingsworth said the pressure on mothers and the stigma surrounding PND hadnt changed from one generation to the next. Its subtle, but its there, she said. PND is not restricted to rst-time mothers it can happen to anybody.

e reunion is at 12-28 Macedon Street from 10am-noon this Wednesday. Details: 9744 4455. Perinatal Anxiety and Depression Australia: 1300 726 306. Lifeline: 13 11 14. Leanne Schultz with her daughter Angela. (Shawn Smits)

A popular Sunbury park is expected to stay green throughout the year aer an irrigation system was installed as part of a recent upgrade.

A shelter, picnic table, seats and a drinking fountain, including a dogs bowl, have also been added at the Nook Bicentennial Park on Vaughan Street.

Hume mayor Helen Patsikatheodorou says the new irrigation system is a big deal.

It means that the grass and plants at the park will be green and healthy, even in the height of summer, she says.

Our ocers have also added some new turf around the shelter to improve the parks appearance.

Sunbury resident Barry Watson says the

Nook is regularly frequented by families, joggers and people walking their dogs.

Ive been here 40 years, and to see the Nook grow the way it has is great. eyve spent a lot of money on it, but theyve done a good job.

He says the improvements will attract more people and encourage them to spend more time at the picturesque reserve.

Its just such a fantastic spot, Mr Watson said.

Grass and trees will be trimmed and roadsides ploughed in coming weeks as VicRoads nishes its Macedon Ranges bushre fuel reduction program.

North-central regional director Mal Kersting said contractors had been working south from the Mallee, targeting high-risk roadsides ahead of whats expected to be an above normal re season.

He said VicRoads, which manages more than 4000 kilometres of arterial roads in the north-central area, had worked with agencies

Road and Mount Macedon Road will start this week.

Macedon Ranges council is almost six weeks into its own roadside program, having started in October, a month earlier than usual.

Council assets and operations director Dale ornton said the initial focus was on areas in the north and east of the shire, which are

including the CFA, the Department of Land, Environment, Water and Planning (DELWP) and councils to designate areas needing extra prevention works.

By slashing roadside grass, there is less likelihood of res taking o or gaining momentum, while a wide, clear road like the Calder Freeway can provide a type of rebreak, he said.

Mr Kersting said VicRoads had completed clearing works in 45 per cent of the targeted areas, including signicant stretches of the Calder and Hume freeways. Work on sections of Gisborne-Kilmore Road, Heathcote-Kyneton

known to dry out more quickly. e council is responsible for about 1700 kilometres of roads.

In the wake of the recent Lanceeld bushre, the CFA used Fire Action Week to urge people in regional areas to understand the local risks.

Its a great time to increase your understanding of the re risk where you live, a CFA spokesman said.

Take the time to prepare your property, and talk to your family and friends about what you plan to do if a re is nearby.

A report into the Lanceeld re, which began as a DELWP fuel reduction burn, is expected to be released this month.

One member of todays Team Consider the Sauce grew up with yum cha.

Shes very open to all sorts of food experiences, and has a cracking sense of humor.

But she reckons Andys which has long been on the CTS to do list is not really a real yum cha joint.

I know what she means. It comes across as your average humble suburban Chinese eatery. And certainly there are no yum cha trolleys whizzing every which-way.

I nd the meal at this Essendon yum cha outpost to be very good indeed.

Andys is situated in a smallish Essendon neighbourhood that has some good eateries.

My companions enjoy our meal, too, though my enthusiasm seems to be on another level entirely.

My worst case scenario had been that the dumplings oered here would display the tell-tale signs of mass production and have come from plastic bags, frozen then steamed.

But what we are served I nd to be excellent. Our dumplings containing all the expected

ingredients, such as prawns, pork, coriander and more evince a range of textures and avours that I really adore.

A high point is the greens with oyster sauce its expertly done and easy to eat.

Also impressive are the pork ribs in black bean sauce and steamed pork buns these latter are usually Bennies domain, but here even I am wowed.

We eat very well and the price ends up being a wonderful $15 each.

Maybe its the kindness found among its lawn bowlers that inuences the people who manage, work, play and cook good food at Kyneton Bowling Club.

Venue manager Rebecca Bell shares a recent experience that demonstrates that kindness.

One Sunday, a family was celebrating the life of a recently passed away brother who loved nothing better than playing Keno here among friends, she says.

It moved our bowlers to take the kids under their wings. This let the adults relax and reminisce as our lovely bowlers showed the kids how to play the game and treated them to chocolate and drinks.

Thats why visitors love our club its an attitude thing that spills out everywhere.

The clubs bistro, Tonys Place Restaurant & Bar, is owned and managed by Tony Elia and his wife, Laila, who is head chef.

Family gatherings were always around the table, with lots of food and stories, Tony says. We love it when our customers compliment us it keeps us going and wanting to try new things. We like to impress.

Lailas menu runs to modern Aussie with a twist of Mediterranean. Tonys Seafood Scotch ticks the modern Aussie box and is one of the most popular dishes its a 300-gram top-quality steak topped with skewered prawns in garlic butter and nished with mushies, bacon and shallots.

The classic Italian bruschetta, all fresh and light, brings in the Mediterranean, as does the wide pasta selection and the tiramisu.

Old faves such as chicken parma and sh n chips are represented and the Chicken Matilda is winning fans grilled chicken tossed in a mustard sauce mingled with bacon, shallots and mushrooms.

If its a little bit of love you look for in your food or your local club, Kyneton Bowling Club could be your next lunch or dinner destination. And bring your friends.

If theres one dish that puts a pubs grub on the map, its a good steak followed by a great parma, one that perfectly pairs with a cold beer.

So its good news that Royal Hotel Sunburys new chef, Kade Brennan, plans on keeping these dening faves on the menu.

Its no ordinary steak, says Kade. It comes from Aussie paddocks, aged to our specications and grain-fed for 100 days, so its full of avour and comes with a supplier guarantee of tenderness.

In fact, something I really appreciate about the Royal is its commitment to fresh (never frozen) Australian produce. Our chicken comes

from cage-free farms and is hormone and antibiotic-free; the pork is sow stall-free, and fresh seafood comes from sustainable sh stocks.

Now the menu is moving into more summery dishes, it still offers the popular all-season chicken scaloppine, which comes with a mushroom cream sauce, along with other dishes that have stood the test of time.

Our classic Caesar salad is a summertime winner, made more substantial with the addition of chicken, to go with cos lettuce, crispy bacon, croutons, parmesan and a poached egg, Kade says. Another is the crispy-skin salmon on garlic

mash with char-grilled capsicum, broccolini and balsamic glaze recommended with a glass of South Island Sav Blanc, of course.

The small, but perfectly formed, dessert selection includes the all-season favourites of sticky date pudding, chocolate mousse, and apple crumble with crme Anglaise.

The Royal isnt just known for its bistro, though. Its also an entertainment hub, with Planet X playing pub rock from 9pm on Fridays.

Royal Hotel Sunbury, 63 Evans Street, Sunbury. Opens 7am-3am daily. Inquiries: 9744 1550 or www.royalhotelsunbury.com.au

Sometimes you arrive at a property and just breathe wow. This is such a place, not because of the house although thats mighty ne. Its the location within a few strides from the front door of Spavin Lake and its walking trail, the air scented with magnicent eucalypts.

It gets a bit wow out the back of the house, too, which is where a lot of life would be lived right now. Theres a huge gabled pergola, elevated and with glass fencing so as not to impede leafy views. Under a lofty eucalypt, fenced and with

tiled surround, theres a kidney-shaped pool. Then, on the abutting lower (paved) level, theres a Victorian-style gazebo sheltering a wood-re pizza oven.

And all this comes with pretty gardens (automatically irrigated), and a timber cubby house, sandpit and in-ground trampoline for when kids tire of the pool.

Now, to the house. Its a great mix of elegant comfort, as found in the carpeted lounge-dining room (with brick replace), and modern family room with a dollop of Federation styling (dado rails bisecting

cream and mid-grey paintwork) executed in a today way.

Polished Tassie oak oorboards anchor the entry foyer and the family room, which links with the outdoor entertainment zone.

Next to a tiled meals area (and linking with the lounge room), the kitchen has wonderful redgum cabinetry with on-trend ttings, charcoal granite benchtops, soft-grey glass splashback, concealed Asko dishwasher, and underbench oven and gas cooktop with the Italian Andi label.

PERMITSThere are times when the need for permits seemsjust too time consuming and unnecessary but, makeno mistake, permits are necessary and must bein place if you wish to sell your property. Thinkingof constructing a big shed, garden shed, installinga deck or verandah, or perhaps an extension? It isvitally important that the appropriate permits andcompliance certificates are in place and this is forseveral good reasons.

As Real Estate Agents we cannot sell a propertywhich has new constructions in place without permits.Should there be an inquiry on your property as a resultof a new construction which is without permits noinsurance will be paid. Should the new deck, shed, extension or verandah be damaged by storm or fire itis highly unlikely that your insurance company will payif the appropriate permits and compliance certificatesare not in place.

We are all very aware of the devastation of the recentbush fire andwere all impressedwith thedeterminationof the fire fighters to save homes. A shed whichhas been converted into a dwelling without permitsand without knowledge of the appropriate councilmay well go unprotected at the time of a bush fire, residents of such a dwelling are putting themselvesand their belongings at risk.

Yes, permits may be a nuisance, they may be costly, but the cost of not having the correct permits is fargreater!
