Bulle n Reflec on: We are invited to reflect on the path of discipleship offered by Jesus in our readings today. Jesus, now seen by the disciples as Messiah and Christ, begins to describe most fully what this means: he will not march into Jerusalem filled with God’s power like a conquering general. His path is like that of Jeremiah; he will be rejected and mocked. His path is like that described by Paul, offering his body as a living sacrifice. Jesus summons his followers down the same path of death and resurrec on, to live the radical paradox that “whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” Loving and trus ng God will entail self-surrender, leading us to joy in service to others. We will learn to let go of what we desire and what we think we need, trus ng God to provide what we truly need.

Saint Peter Claver (1581-1654) September 9 Nearly two hundred years before the Decla-ra on of Independence proclaimed “that all men are created equal,” two hundred fi y years before the Emancipa on Proclama on mandated an end to slavery, three hundred fi y years before Mar n Lu-ther King’s “I Have a Dream,” and four hundred years before the elec on of an American president boas ng African heritage, Peter Claver le his na ve Spain behind to volunteer for the Jesuit missions in Colombia. There, he was horrified both by slavery as an ins tu on and by the inhuman brutality inflicted

upon the slaves. He solemnly vowed to become “the slave of the slaves,” and lived that vow heroically for close to forty years. Not knowing their language, Pe-ter began his ministry among the slaves by using the universal language of prac cal charity, providing medical care and a tangible though wordless asser-

on of their human dignity: “We spoke to them not with words but with our hands, kneeling beside them, bathing their faces and bodies, encouraging them with friendly gestures” (see Liturgy of the Hours, Volume 4, p. 2018). Then came evangeliza-

on and bap sm. Holiness as human wholeness: Pe-ter Claver’s enduring witness.

Here in Saint Agnes Church, since our Church Capacity is 200, we can begin to have Masses limited to 66 people at each Mass. So, beginning the weekend of June 13/14, our Sunday Mass Schedule will resume (Saturday, 4 PM and Sunday, 7 AM, 9 AM and 11 AM). The 9 AM Weekday Mass will resume on Monday, June 15. We warmly welcome you back to Saint Agnes Church! You were missed! Since at the present me we are limited to 66 people in a endance at each Mass, you will need to Sign Up each weekend for the Mass you wish to a end. It is very important to remember that we are limited at the present me to 66 people at each Mass and that everyone needs to Sign Up beforehand. Once we reach 50 in number, that Mass will be closed to any more than the 66 people. A er Signing Up, be sure to read and follow the “Saint Agnes’ Parish Guidelines” and “Safest Prac ces for A ending Mass and Receiving Communion” which is printed on the page and the next page. You may also find helpful viewing a short 6-minute Video from the Archdiocese of Bal more en tled, “What to Expect when You Return to Mass.” Since it is from another Diocese, not everything in the Video will be applicable to our Saint Agnes Church. But it does give a good overview of many of the Mass Changes you will experience when you come back to Mass since COVID-19 has altered our lives! You can view the Video on our Parish Website.
