POPE FRANCIS—PRAYER INTENTIONS FOR JANUARY

Evangelization: Christians at the service of the challenges of humanity, That all Christians may be faithful to the Lord’s teaching by striving with prayer and fraternal charity to restore ecclesial communion and by collaborating to meet the challenges facing humanity.

Pastor’s Corner

Blessings,

Fr. Mark Bentz

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! It’s hard to believe that its been 6

months since I arrived at St. Alice and that 2016 is over already! It’s been quite an

eventful year, and with God’s grace, this year will be even more fruitful. I’m very excited

for all the possibilities—as we have a lot of talent and ideas in the parish that are

waiting to be activated and discovered. If the Holy Spirit is tugging on your heart to do a project or help start a

ministry or be a part of one, come talk to us!

I just wanted to give you a recap of some of the things that happened in the last six months: We installed a

brand new, state of the art sound system in the church (if you are a young person and wish to help with being a

sound tech for mass, please talk to us, we are in need of more help—it’s great service hours, hint, hint!), we

replaced our phone system, painted the soffits in the ceiling, repaired the sidewalk, hired a cleaning company for

the parish, installed ductless heat/ac in the Ed Center chapel, and replaced the hot water heater in the Parish

Center. Structurally, we fixed our computers and our accounting software, gave our website a facelift, replaced

our printers, and moved to a digital calendar. All in all, pretty productive!

This next year, I hope to fix any remaining structural issues with the help of my amazing staff and all of you.

We’re looking forward to installing updated security systems, finishing the update of our parish information

database and communication systems to keep you all in the loop, and hopefully hiring a part-time business

manager to help with administration in the near future. All of this is for the purpose of mission: so that we can

begin to expand our outreach into Springfield and bring the gospel and aid to those in need. I’ve been so proud of

our dedicated volunteers in parish ministries: from greeters to lectors to St. Vincent de Paul and other charitable

outreach with Catholic Community Services. We’ll be continuing to partner with these organizations and develop

those relationships in concrete ways.

We also want to continue growing in our faith. The parish-wide bible study on the Old Testament has been

a great opportunity to dive into God’s word and get excited about the beauty of the Catholic faith. Please join us

this year on Thursday nights or listen online to the talks at www.stalice.org . My only sadness is that I haven’t had

the time to teach a separate class in Spanish. To that end, I hope to soon purchase a simultaneous translation

system so that we can do bi-lingual events more easily as well as save resources by having classes where

everyone can learn together without frustration. It would also help us to more smoothly celebrate mass as one

community in the future. If you are interested in supporting this endeavor or have experience with live translation

work or equipment, please let me know.

We also had a huge blessing with the visit of the relic of St. John Paul II in November—what a gift! There

were several healing miracles that happened during the visit from curing of eardrums, to neuropathy, to emotional

healing and peace. If you received a grace from the visit, please share it with us so we can give glory to God!

That’s it for now, I hope you are excited about 2017! Please pray for me as I am on retreat and vacation

until the 15th. I will keep you all in prayer and hope to return refreshed and ready to go. God love you all!

Fr. Mark
