Deacon Steve . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . The Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary is Monday October 7. I know many of us pray the rosary but do we know how powerful the rosary can be. Here are some insights to the story of Our Lady of the Rosary. St. Pius V started the feast in 1573. The purpose was to thank God for the victory of Christians over the Turks at Lepanto a victory attributed to the praying of the rosary. Clement the XI extended the feast to the universal Church in 1716. The rosary has a long history. First a practice developed of praying 150 Our Fathers in imitation of the 150 Psalms. Then there was a parallel practice of praying 150 Hail Marys. Soon a mystery of Jesus’ life was attached to each Hail Mary. Though Mary’s giving of the rosary to Saint Dominic is recognized as a legend, the development of the prayer form owes much to the followers of Saint Dominic. One of them, Alen de la Roche, was known as the apostle of the rosary. He founded the first Confraternity of the Rosary in the 15th century. In the 16th century it found its present form with 15 Mysteries, the Joyful, Sorrowful and Glorious then in 2002 Pope John Paul added 5 Luminous mysteries to this devotion. The rosary appeals to many. It is simple. The constant repetition of words helps create an atmosphere in which to contemplate the mysteries of God. We sense that Jesus and Mary are with us in the joys and sorrows of life. We grow in hope that God will bring us to share in the glory of Jesus and Mary forever. One of the most amazing miracles attributed to the rosary happened in 1945 when the atomic bomb was dropped on Japan. Four Jesuit priests just eight blocks away from the blast survived the devastation. People as far as three times the distance did not. Only one priest had few glass shards in his neck. Over 30 years the priests were subject to examinations and not one sign of any radiation after effects were found. These priests believed their daily recitation and living the Fatima message protected them. Their church suffered damage but the rectory where they prayed did not. St. Padre Pio stated that the Rosary is the “Weapon for these times.” “Give me an army saying the Rosary, and I will conquer the world,” Blessed Pope Pius IX. – We need the rosary more than ever as the moral decay is ever more alive. Satan detests the rosary. The rosary is truly the weapon against evil. Consider joining us for Holy Hour Tuesdays at 6:30pm beginning with the Rosary followed by Adoration. The rosary is also prayed every Saturday before morning Mass. Our Lady's goal is for us to be on the spiritual path to heaven, what better gift than to pray the rosary.

Our Lady Of Medjugorie Message from August 2019-

Dear children! Pray, work and witness with love for the Kingdom of Heaven that it may be good for you here on earth. Little children, God will bless your effort a hundred fold; you will be witnesses among peoples, souls of unbelievers will feel the grace of conversion and Heaven will be grateful for your efforts and sacrifices. Little children, witness with the Rosary in hand that you are mine and decide for holiness. Thank you for having responded to my call.”

One more way to be an Angel to our school!

Did you know that St. Alphonsus School has a long-standing tradition of accepting international exchange students at our school to study. It is a wonderful way to learn from and with other cultures. We recently

accepted an 8th grader from China to our school.

We are looking for host families for our prospective exchange students who will study in our school’s international exchange programs.

The exchange students are mainly coming from China, age ranged from 9 to 14 years old (3rd to 8th grade).

They will study in our school from a period of two weeks to 6 months. The exchange students will get an opportunity to explore the American culture during their stay in our international program. We encourage our families to join us to support the international exchange student program as the American host family. The exchange students will live with the host family as a part of their own family. The host family is expected to act as guardians during their stay and take care of basic necessities including transportation and food. The

participating host family can also have the opportunity to learn Chinese culture from the exchange students.

A stipend will be paid to appreciate the commitment of host families. We truly appreciate your consideration of this request.
