MASS INTENTIONS FOR HOLY WEEK:

JUNE, 12th, 2016, ELEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME: Like Nathan in today’s first reading, we sin when we begin to feel entitled and act as if what we have is ours by right, when we forget that everything we have is an unmerited gift from God. But God is gracious and forgiving — even when we use His gifts wrongly or squander them thoughtlessly — if, like Nathan, we confess our guilt and ask His pardon.

Birthday Anniversary ♥ Memorial Support ♦

HOPE AND FORGIVENESS There were some interesting conceptions of sin prevalent in the time of the Hebrew scriptures. There was the belief that God punished sin immediately. Those who suffered disease or misfortune were, therefore, sinners getting their due from the Almighty. Today’s first reading hints at another kind of God. When David admits his sin, Nathan declares, “The LORD on his part has forgiven your sin” (2 Samuel 12:13b). Here was not a vengeful God but a merciful God. What good news that must have been to David and those who, like him, could be honest enough to admit their sinfulness! Jesus is the good news of God’s mercy and forgiveness incarnate. Without Jesus, perhaps the good news would have been too good to believe, too difficult to imagine. But there he is in today’s Gospel, the God-man, forgiving a sinner and declaring that she is forgiven because of her great love. There is hope, then, for the rest of us sinners, if only we love enough! Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Reflections on Today’s Readings:

FOCUS: Our God is merciful and loving. Today’s Gospel offers us some important reminders about forgiveness. We are to forgive others as God has forgiven us. God’s mercy is boundless and He will forgive us for any sin if we place our trust in Him, love Him and humbly ask for forgiveness. Upon being forgiven, we are to generously love and forgive others.

LITURGY OF THE WORD: The first reading tells of Nathan the prophet confronting King David about His grievous sins involving Uriah and his wife. The second reading reminds us that we are justified and saved by virtue of faith in Jesus Christ. In the Gospel, Jesus teaches that one who is forgiven much loves much, and the one to whom little is forgiven, loves little.

Fact of Life Fact of Life Fact of Life The Amazing Promise of Adult Stem Cell The Amazing Promise of Adult Stem Cell The Amazing Promise of Adult Stem Cell

Research and The Church’s SupportResearch and The Church’s SupportResearch and The Church’s Support “3-D” printing of human tissue. Organ transplant therapy for cancer patients that reduces fatalities 75 percent. These developments are on the cutting edge of what adult stem cells can do. Standing alongside this progress is the Catholic Church, which has always supported Adult Stem Cell Research. Our Catholic Church has always promoted ethical forms of research and these forms have yielded the most promising results while protecting the dignity of the human person. A recent Vatican conference focused specifically on ethical forms of stem cell research. The conference drew companies and leading experts to discuss the future of the rapidly developing field. Archbishop Paul Tighe, who serves as adjunct secretary of the Pontifical Council for Culture, related that the concern for the good of human beings means the Church has to be involved in the discussion. Catholics have an institutional presence in the forms of universities and hospitals. They’re also motivated by another inspiration. Jesus was “above all a healer,” he said. “He restored health to people. And that’s really the care that people responded to.”

A LIFETIME OF SERVICEA LIFETIME OF SERVICEA LIFETIME OF SERVICE The Retirement Fund for Archdiocesan The Retirement Fund for Archdiocesan The Retirement Fund for Archdiocesan PriestsPriestsPriests takes place THISTHISTHIS weekend, June June June 11/12, 201611/12, 201611/12, 2016. . . All parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Los Angeles will be asked

to give generously to support the Fund. Currently, the fund provides for more than 100 priests who are retired. Over the next ten years, that number is expected to increase significantly. With minimal compensation, and in many cases, no pension, these men often retire with nothing to fall back upon. Your contributions can change that. The Priest Retirement Fund offers us a way to give back to our Catholic priests who have served us so faithfully. Your contribution will help archdiocesan priests live modestly and peacefully in retirement. Help us offer thanks for their years of devotion to God, and faithful service to our parish communities. Look for the envelope/brochures in the pews for more I information.

The Month of June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart. The Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus on the Friday following the second Sunday after Pentecost. In addition to the liturgical celebration, many devotional exercises are connected

with the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Of all devotions, devotion to the Sacred Heart was, and remains, one of the most widespread and popular in the Church. Understood in the light of the Scriptures, the term "Sacred Heart of Jesus" denotes the entire mystery of Christ, the totality of his being, and his person considered in its most intimate essential: Son of God, uncreated wisdom; infinite charity, principal of the salvation and sanctification of mankind. The "Sacred Heart" is Christ, the Word Incarnate, Saviour, intrinsically containing, in the Spirit, an infinite divine-human love for the Father and for his brothers.

Implement safety rules for kids going to summer camp

Summer camp is a time-honored tradition for kids. Whether it’s an all-day camp or cabin sleep-away, kids can get out of the house, learn new skills, and make friends. Parents who send their kids off to camp should be sure to research the camp and the counselors who will be watching their kids. If your child is going to sleep-away camp, check in by phone or mail regularly. Ask questions and ensure that your child is safe and cared for at any camp. For a copy of the VIRTUS® article “Summer Camp Preparation” email [email protected] or call (213) 637-7227.

Kids Living Faith: Sunday, June 12th, 2016

Eleventh Sunday in Ordinary Time

Yet I live, no longer I , but Christ lives in me. Galatians 2:20

Calvin’s dad is managing their all-star team this summer. But Calvin is last in the lineup, and he’s stuck in the out-field, even though his dad knows that Calvin wants to be a catcher. After practice today, Calvin’s dad talked to him. “I love you, Calvin, and I know you’ll do great”, he said. “But I can’t play favorites. I expect you to work hard—maybe harder—that the rest of the team.” In a way, being a Christian is like being chosen for an all-star team. God, our Father, has chosen us. He loves us and sometimes asks difficult things of us. But it’s always for our own good, even if we don’t see it right now.

God, I know you have good things in store for me.
