WEEKLY UPDATE
Every year the Diocese of Venice calls upon its parishes to support the Catholic Faith Appeal, a fund that benefits many programs, both throughout the diocese and here in our own parish, like the one featured on the graphics on this page. If you haven’t participated yet, please prayerfully consider joining the 2018 CFA. Every little bit helps, even if just a one time donation. In previous years, we have fallen short of seeing even 20% of our registered families participating (last year about 16%). If more families helped, St. Andrew Church could easily meet its annual Parish Goal, which once again this year is $320,000. To participate, just go to our website at www.standrewrcc.org/donations and scroll down to the link under Catholic Faith Appeal.
ORDINATION SAVE THE DATE The Ordination to the Priesthood of Transitional Deacon Shawn Roser will take place at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, July 14, at Epiphany Cathedral, 350 Tampa Avenue West, Venice. All are welcome and encouraged to attend this important event in the life of Deacon Shawn and the Diocese of Venice.

SUNSHINE STATE YOUNG READERS AWARD LUNCHEON This year the Sunshine State Young Readers Award Luncheon recognized 28 students who reached the goal of reading 10 or more Sunshine State-nominated books. The books are chosen by librarians across Florida and are current titles. At SACS each year, the Home and School Association purchases the books, which are made available to the students. The luncheon was catered by Mel's Diner, and students played games and won prize baskets. Thanks to Mrs. Dunn, the school media specialist who has organized the celebration over the last dozen years. Thanks, too, to the following for their generous donations: Publix, Walmart, Zoomerz, Rib City, Bowland, Florida Everblades, Ft. Myers Miracles, Imaginarium, Jungle Golf, Imaginarium, Barbara B. Mann, Minnesota Twins Baseball, Mel’s Diner, Culver’s, SACS Cafe of the Stars, and Applebees. The Sunshine State Young Readers list is available for 2018-2019. RESCUED BY JESUS
When I write this column St. Andrew is in the midst of its Vacation Bible School in which over 70 children are spending each morning learning, playing, singing, and dancing about Jesus. Our week’s theme is “Shipwrecked...Rescued by Jesus” in which each of the day’s Bible Points are these. Monday: When you feel lonely...Jesus Rescues! Tuesday: When you feel worried… Jesus Rescues! Wednesday: When you struggle… Jesus Rescues! Thursday: When you do wrong… Jesus Rescues! Friday: When you feel powerless… Jesus Rescues! The more of this week’s messages we present, the more I’m reminded of the Gospel that says we must be like little children; to every one of those Bible Points I easily relate. I get lonely. I worry. I struggle. I do wrong. I feel powerless. And I need to remember that in all those instances Jesus is there for me. I need to invoke his name. I need to pause and pray. I need to pay attention to those around me who might be speaking Jesus’ words of peace, advice, reassurance, and friendship. I need to banish the gremlins in my head that leads me away from those things and toward unhealthier coping like eating or too much video viewing. Let’s all try to remember: Jesus Rescues.
