Y2 Discussion
When you log into School
Spider, right underneath
your homework list is a
class discussion… let me
know what you’ve been up
to! I always reply the same
day. Drop me a message,
I’d love to hear from you!
Children may have a small selection of additional activities to complete that are specific to their year group.
These can be accessed when children login to School Spider via the home page of our school website using “Student Login”
St. Andrew’s Primary School Home Learning—Year 2
Week Commencing 27th April 2020
Children can log in to School Spider via our school website home page to see details of activities and tasks they can complete.
Learning for this week in Year 2
RE— Read the information sheet ‘Ascension Day 2’, which I have put onto School Spider. There is a bit of information about the special task Jesus left
for His disciples to do after He went to Heaven. There is a cool video for you to watch (click the link) and a crafty activity involving traffic lights!
Maths— About half the class logged on to Numbots last week, well done! Keep it up this week, let’s see which stage you can
get up to … have you managed to unlock challenge mode yet?? (www.numbots.com) You log on using the same details as
TT Rockstars. Last week, I put an information sheet about Numbots onto School Spider for you, to explain what it is all about!
Have a look if you’re still not sure. I would like you to spend 5-10 minutes each day using Numbots, and also TT Rockstars, to
improve your addition & subtraction and times tables skills.
Also… Monday-Thursday, I would like you to use a website called White Rose maths (www.whiterosemaths.com) to revise our learning on FRACTIONS.
Click on Home Learning> Home learning Year 2> Week 1 (the FIRST pink bar!) if you need to practise halves and quarters. If this
seems a little easy, try Week 2, (the SECOND pink bar) which moves onto finding thirds. For each day, there is a different lesson.
Watch the video, then complete the activity… the answers are also provided too!!
Friday- Problem Solving! On School Spider, I have put a problem to solve … Cross roads. Using 5 plates and 15 counters (or
pencils/pebbles/pieces of pasta…) make each line total 10. If you click on the link at the top of the page which says click here for
supporting ICT resource, it takes you to this page, where you can check your answers. Try making 8 on the next page too!
English— For our reading this week, we are going to read another book about the seaside… this one is about the Sealife Centre!
Log onto Purple Mash & click on ‘Serial Mash’. Click on the book called ‘I Wish I was a Fish’. (Found in the DIAMONDS section)
Each day this week, read one chapter of the book– either on your own if you can, or get an adult to help you if it is too tricky. Each
chapter ends on a cliff-hanger… see if you can predict what will happen next before you read the next day’s chapter! For each
chapter, there are lots of different activities to try– a quiz, missing words, joining words, grammar activities, a paint activity and an
extra creative task at the end. (I especially like the yes or no quiz on Wednesday) Complete as many of these activities as you can
in half an hour, after reading each chapter. See if you can do them all!
Spellings– For the next few weeks, we are going to be learning about words called contractions. This week, our contractions all have the word ‘not’ in
them. I have put this week’s spellings onto School Spider for you, along with some cool ideas to help you learn how to spell the words. Try to do 5-10
minutes every day, like we do when we come into school each morning. :)
Computing- Mrs Weikert has uploaded activities for each class to complete based on their current learning on to School Spider. You will be able to see
this if you log into the school homepage.
Science— Have a good look around in your garden carefully or out and about on your daily outing. What animals live there? Remember to
look high and low and carefully under things. There is a Purple Mash activity to do. Tell me about what you find.
Learning Challenge—Why do we love to be beside the seaside?
This week, I would like you to complete a piece of creative writing for me. We are going to write seaside senses poems, based on what we can see, hear,
taste, smell and feel at the seaside. I have added the instructions and a template for you to use onto School Spider. I started to write my own poem too, to
give you an idea of what I am looking for… see what you think! Remember to upload your homework if you can, then I can have a look at your brilliant
writing!
