My dear family of St. Andrew the Apostle!
On this feast of Pentecost, we remember that the Church, the Body of Christ, is united of people of all races, languages, cultures into ONE Church — this is because the Holy Spirit unites us all into the one Body of Christ. The Holy Spirit guided Jesus from His very conception in Mary’s womb, and the Holy Spirit still animates Jesus’ Body, the Church, like blood that flows through all the different organs of a body, or like water that is the same and yet fills all vessels according to their capacity and according to their differences. In this sense, St. Paul proclaims that in Christ there is no Jew or Greek, male or female, for we are all one in Christ Jesus. This is a marvelous mystery of God’s life, and the Holy Spirit is the soul of the Church. But it can also be a source of great confusion in today’s world as well.
Two months ago, I left off with our ongoing meditation on Healing Gender Wars — so today is installment #12, our final installment! God has created us male and female — equal in dignity yet diverse in masculine and feminine genius. A broken world sees confusion in this instead of God’s original intent: God intended male and female to reveal His beauty and wisdom and complementarity and love! Sometimes in this broken world, and in our broken hearts, we see in another our inner feminine/masculine qualities (what Carl Jung called our anima and animus). Fr. Robert Sears, S.J., has observed that the fascinations we have of the other when left unchecked may lead to the fear of the relationship breaking or of never having enough of the person which can become obsessive. It feels like death to let go of possessiveness, to give the other space and freedom. This makes sense, for to lose one’s inner soul would be a “death”, and one’s soul must be a constant companion in touch with every aspect of one’s life. Here lies the problem, as Fr. Sears points out: “one isn’t aware of the identification of the other with one’s own inner self. Actually, what seems to be a promised paradise is quickly filled with paradox and impossibility. The other can’t always be centered in me, and I become jealous because of my inner demand for totality…. [In marriage,] to keep tantalizing one with the promise of wholeness and then take it away seems like torture. One has lost the freedom to pursue one’s wholeness because of being captivated with the other…. One is not free to become one’s true self because half of one’s self is given to another.”
How do we find healing in this regard? Fr. Sears concludes: “If a real relationship is involved, that will come clear only as each one finds in oneself what has been ‘projected’ onto the other.” Again, if God is community and family is the cell of church, then men and women will be called to share in giving God’s life. All aspects of male-female relationships touch God. The original sin of Adam and Eve was to look to their own experience rather than to God for guidance, and the result was massive confusion and conflict between each other. Instead of each one deepening the others’ relation to God, they substituted for God and became idols — objects of love and hate at the same time. Fr. Sears wisely states, “Only if we reconnect with God can we rightly discern how we are to relate to our God-given partners. Each case is unique. Each person is at a different developmental stage with different needs appropriate to their stage. God works in each life differently! “The aim,” Fr. Sears continues, “is always toward greater conformity to Jesus’ way and greater spiritual freedom and service of God in the community of believers. Male-female relationships are an integral part of this transformation, since we are only fully human in God’s image as male and female community.”
As he was dying Jesus called out, “My God, my God why have you abandoned me,” but that very acknowledgment of his deep pain released a final surrender to God, as he handed over God’s Spirit of union to Mary and John as representatives of us all. Through the agony of that spiritual birth, God’s dream, that God never abandons, could again be made real. This is made real for us, as Fr. Sears concludes, “in our facing the pain of our wounded bonding and breaking through to God’s restoring Spirit in the ground of our being and in our heart to heart relationships.” The Spirit is One who fills all things with God’s life and glory, both male and female!
So the fulfillment that only God can give us, is a Spirit-centered love which has been revealed to us in Jesus — it is meant to be like God’s love, special, faithful, open to being life-giving to everyone, creative and releasing creativity. Jesus comes to us and lives among us in the power of the Holy Spirit as the Bridegroom of the Church, to heal gender wars within and among us. Jesus, Bridegroom of your Church and Bridegroom of each one of our souls, pray for us, and heal us and our whole human family! Christ is risen! Alleluia! Alleluia! Peace and joy to you ALL!
In the loving Hearts of Jesus and Mary, Fr. Gregor

Today as we celebrate Pentecost the Holy Spirit wants to make us advocates of God’s presence to bring new life to
others, especially those who do not know the love of God in their lives.
In the past two months we have been able to help two families with rent, mortgage and utilities
totaling nearly $3800.00. They and their 6 children gave thanks for the help provided to keep them housed and

When Our Phone Rings, Will You Answer It?
Somewhere in the world, a lost soul is dialing our toll-free number hoping to find help. Will you answer that call? If God is calling you to help others, consider becoming a phone counselor for The Upper Room Crisis Hotline. We are a Catholic hotline providing counseling and referral assistance to anyone struggling to find his or her way back to God or a more rational life. We help everyone regardless of their faith or background. To be a phone counselor, you don’t need experience in mental health or phone work, although that background is helpful. What you will need is a love of people and a strong desire to help the lonely, frightened, and confused. We provide all the training. If this ministry touches your heart, please call Sr. Mary Frances Seeley at 815-258-9019, or email [email protected] with questions. Our next training session begins in June. You can also check us out at catholichotline.org.
Thank you and God bless.

St. Andrew the Apostle We Care Food Pantry
The St. Andrew We Care Food Pantry is open every Wednesday from 10:00 am. until 12:30 p.m. for any eligible family in Romeoville in need of food assistance.
Our pantry is open only to Romeoville residents so proof of residency and an ID must be shown upon sign-in each week. If you are a parishioner of St. Andrew and you find yourself in need of food assistance, you are more than welcome to come to the We Care Food Pantry also. Proof of residency is a utility bill with your name and address on it plus your Driver’s License or State of Illinois ID. That must be brought in each time you come for food assistance.
The Pantry is located at 219 Arlington. For further information, please contact Shirley Grzenia at (630) 945-1317. This is the new phone number to call for food pantry inquiries and assistance. Thank you and God Bless. Crisis Pregnancy Waterleaf 1-888-4-HOPE-4-1 Birthright 1-800-550-4900
