Theological Questions
Last week’s question: Does the Diocese of Arlington send any priests to work as missionaries in foreign coun-tries?
Beginning in 1991, the Diocese of Arlington has sent priests to a remote mountainous region of the Dominican Republic, on the border of Haiti. There are currently two priests from our diocese serving there: Father Jason Weber and Father Stephen McGraw. They staff two parishes in the Diocese of San Juan de la Maguana, located six hours from Santo Domingo: San Francisco de Asís in Bánica; and San José in Pedro Santa-na. Even though the population of the Dominican Republic is almost entirely Catholic, and has been since the time of Christopher Columbus, the country suffers from extreme poverty, which has made it difficult to cultivate vocations to the priesthood. They must, for now, rely on priests and lay volunteers from other countries to support the local clergy. The Diocese of San Juan de la Maguana only has 13 "home-grown" priests, so Bishop Grúllón is dependent on outside missionaries to staff some of the parishes. New Question: Do any priests from the Diocese of Arlington serve as chaplains in the Archdiocese of the Military Services? See next week’s bulletin for the answer.

If you attend a class at another parish, be sure to request a class attendance letter. You will need to present that letter when you request your sponsor eligibility letter from St. Andrews.

Father’s Day Novena
To enroll your fathers, living or deceased, in our Parish Novena of Masses beginning Father’s Day, June 16, and continuing for nine consecutive days, please use the Fa-ther’s Day remembrance envelope found in your monthly packet of envelopes or at the Church exits along with Father’s Day Novena cards.
Though no stipend is ever required to have your fathers, grandfathers and/or godfathers enrolled in our Novena, any gift you may wish to make is always appreciated. The remembrance envelopes (and list of names if you use Faith Direct) may be placed in the regular Sunday collec-tion basket or dropped off at the Parish Office.

Ordination to the Priesthood - Come Pray for
Our Future Priests
The ordination of men to the priesthood is a beautiful and inspiring event for our entire diocese, and all are welcome to witness this occasion.
June 8: The Mass of Ordination to the Priesthood for Deacons Nicholas Blank, Edouard Guilloux, Sean Koehr and Will Nyce.
The ordination will take place at the Cathedral of St. Thomas More starting at 11:00 a.m. There will also be a Holy Hour Vigil with Bishop Burbidge and the seminarians on Friday June 7 at 7:30 p.m. at the Cathedral, followed by a light reception.

Save the Date - 5th Annual Corpus Christi Procession and Reception
June 23 On Sunday, June 23, the Solemnity of the Holy Body and Blood of Christ, we will have our annual Corpus Christi Procession, immediately following the 12:30 p.m. Mass. We will carry our Eucharistic Lord amid prayers and hymns to outdoor altars on the church property, where a blessing will be given. The procession will conclude in the church with Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. We invite all our parish to come and join us for this special and graced act of worship. A reception will follow in Monsignor Hannan Hall.

Mass for Multicultural Communities: Friday, June 21
All are invited and welcome to the annual diocesan Mass for Multicultural Communities! Join us in celebrating our unity in the Eucharist! Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Michael Burbidge at St. James Catholic Church in Falls Church, June 21 at 7 p.m. The Multicultural Choir will begin with a choral prelude at 6:30 p.m., so come early to prepare for the Mass with beautiful music! Following the Mass, all are welcome to the reception in Heller Hall. There will be special performances, cultural food and drink, and displays from the diverse ministries in the Diocese of Arlington. Weekend Discernment Retreat for Women: June 14-16
Could Christ be calling you to the religious life? Take a step to find out. Attend the weekend discernment retreat for women (ages 18-50) June 14-16. This is a great opportunity for prayer and discernment and talking with religious sisters and other women discerners. Cost is $60 and includes overnights and all meals (financial assistance is available if needed). Retreat starts Friday at 6:30 p.m. and concludes Sunday after lunch.

Legion of Mary T.E.A.M. Retreat for Youth (ages 12-18): Saturday, June 29 The Teenage Enrichment for the Apostles of Mary (T.E.A.M. Retreat) sponsored by the Legion of Mary will be held at Holy Trinity Jubilee Park 4407 Aldie Road in Catharpin, VA). The retreat is open to all Catholics ages 12 - 18. Bishop's Lenten Appeal - Thank you to the many parishioners who have made a gift/pledge to the 2019 Bishop’s Lenten Appeal (BLA). We are asking every parish household to participate in the BLA. Recovering Origins 2019 Weekend Retreat: August 30 - September 1
Recovering Origins is a unique healing retreat for adult children of divorce. Retreatants will discover their identity as children of God. The retreat will be held Friday, August 30 - Sunday, September 1 and will include presentations, adoration, confession, small group sharing, and daily Mass. Retreatants will receive insight into dealing with the earthly realities of their parents' divorce. Whether you have struggled with this issue for a long time or have tried not to think about it, we invite you to join us this summer. Registration opens June 1. Cost is $350 before July 31. Mornings of Mercy (MOM) for Divorced Catholics: August 10 Join us at the next MOM on August 10, from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Alexandria. Sisters of Bon Secours Come & See Weekend: June 28 - July 2
Single Catholic women are invited to experience the life of the Sisters of Bon Secours and to learn more about religious life from June 28-July 2 at the Provincial House in Marriottsville, MD. You will have the opportunity to be with sisters as you learn about our life. You'll also meet and share with other women who are exploring religious life as a life option. This weekend offers time for reflection and one-on-one discussions with a sister.
