PLEASE CONSIDER ON-LINE GIVING Visit our website and click on “ON LINE GIVING” and follow the instructions. It’s that easy! OR CONSIDER USING OFFERTORY ENVELOPES Why should I use offertory envelopes? Because in a very materialistic world, followers of Jesus get distracted, so we need reminders. Envelopes help us organize and carefully think out our manner of giving to the Lord. Without envelopes, we tend to reach into our pockets at the last minute to pull out left-overs, what we do not really need. Thus, we easily end up giving to a waiter at a restaurant (the 15 to 20% tip), more than we give to the Lord each week. When something is special and important, we usually wrap the gift up. Using envelopes helps us “wrap up” our gift for Jesus each week, making it more beautiful and meaningful. Call the Parish Office to get set up to receive offertory envelopes.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY “The most important person on earth is a mother. She cannot claim the honor of having built Notre Dame Cathedral. She need not. She has built something more magnificent than any cathedral — a dwelling for an immortal soul, the tiny perfection of her baby’s body….The angels have not been blessed with such a grace. They cannot share in God’s creative miracle to bring new saints to Heaven. Only a human mother can. Mothers are closer to God the Creator than any other creature; God joins forces with mothers in performing this act of creation....What on God’s good earth is more glorious than this: to be a mother?” Joseph Cardinal Mindszenty

IMPORTANT INFORMATION — From the Pastor
With our eventual return to worship IN CHURCH, there will be, by diocesan directives, a few CHANGES; SOME WILL BE TEMPORARY AND SOME WILL BE PERMANENT. WEEKEND MASS TIMES: The NORMAL weekend Mass Schedule will resume WITH IMPLEMENTATION OF PHASE 1. We are expecting that this will happen beginning Saturday, May 16th. Due to government regulations, only 100 people (25% capacity) will be allowed to worship in Church. An overflow crowd will be ushered to the Parish Hall to view Holy Mass on a large screen. Holy Communion will be brought to those in the Hall at the Communion Rite. (This too, however, will have limited capacity. In the event that the Hall reaches capacity, outdoor speakers will be set up by outdoor Stations of the Cross.) WEEKDAY MASS TIMES: This week (May 11th through 15th) all weekday Masses must remain outdoors (weather permitting), and will be held Monday through Friday at 8:30am.
Once we are able to return to Church, Monday Masses in Church will PERMANENTLY CHANGE TO an 8:30am TIME SLOT. There will no longer be a 5:30pm Monday Mass. Why? Because as Chancellor of STM, I often have important meetings on Monday evenings at the School. Having to rely on substitute priests is not good, in part because it is becoming increasingly hard to find a priest who is available. As we make our way back to routine, now seems the appropriate time to make the change. For those who are unable to attend morning weekday Masses, the Thursday 5:30pm Mass will remain with Fr. Jude Halphen as celebrant. (Thursday is also the day for STM Masses, thus I am very appreciative of Fr. Halphen’s help.)
There will also be, for the time being, a Wednesday 8:30am Mass, STARTING NOW until further notice.
ENTERING CHURCH ONCE PHASE 1 IS IN EFFECT -- Very strict regulations are being required by the Diocese. So…I’ll outline in as simple a way as I can:
A) ALL WILL ENTER THROUGH THE CENTER FRONT DOORS ONLY. (The exception is for those
who must use the handicap ramp – and only those who are handicap.) This is necessary for counting pur-poses AND for specific traffic flow. Due to social distancing, you must follow the direction of the arrows that will be posted on the floor of the Church. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT.
B) Every other pew must be blocked off. C) Only two persons to a pew (at each end) UNLESS you are of the same household. It is recommended that
only small children sit with their parents and that older children use another pew. FACIAL COVERING: To enter the Church or the Parish Hall, it is state law that one must wear a facial mask. We also recommend that you bring your own hand sanitizer. Wearing gloves is not required (only by the ushers.) A PATIENT HEART: Change is not always easy, especially when we have prayed in a certain way, in a certain spot, for years. My responsibility is to ensure that the rules set forth by both the Government and the Diocese are carried out faithfully. Thus, I am asking for your patience and your understanding. You must FOLLOW the directions that will be given to you, particularly when entering and leaving Church. Some of you may have to attend Mass in the Parish Hall. Please understand the strict mandate of 25% capacity only. I suspect that when it comes to our ways of worshipping, it will not be business as usual for quite a long time—if ever. But I’ve been in Youngsville long enough to know that you are an exceptional community and will rise to the challenge with the loving hearts that I have come to know so well. THE ROSARY will be prayed 30 minutes before each Mass throughout the month of May. THE PERPETUAL HELP NOVENA on Tuesday mornings must be suspended until the use of prayer cards /handouts are once again allowed by the Diocese.
PHASE I OF RE-OPENING OF CHURCH
THE FOLLOWING ARE EXCERPTS FROM A DIOCESAN DIRECTIVE.
Only 100 people will be allowed in Church for Masses; an overflow crowd will be directed to the Parish Hall to watch Mass on a video screen with reception of Holy Communion during the Communion Rite. In the event of a Parish Hall overflow, people will be directed to return to another Mass. This MUST be strict-ly enforced. IT IS STATE LAW. NO peace sign, NO Communion on the tongue, NO lingering after Mass in Church or outside of Church. The restroom facility can only be used in emergency situations as there will be no-one to wipe down imme-diately after its use. The Church will be wiped down after all Masses.
DIOCESE OF LAFAYETTE
Guidelines for Returning to Public Liturgies During Phase I of COVID 19 Reopening Plan
EXCERPTS
As our churches reopen, the following guidelines will remain in place during Phase I of public reopening of Masses and other Liturgies.
With implementation of Phase I, St. Anne Church will open for public worship, which we anticipate will be on Saturday, May 16th, beginning with the 4pm Anticipated Mass. It is important that we do not lose sight of the fact that the COVID-19 Virus is a highly contagious and dangerous pathogen. We must maintain and continue our precautionary measures to ensure we are protecting one another from the spread of the virus. The reopening for public worship must necessarily be gradual and in accordance with governmental directives. It is the responsibility of the pastor to ensure that these directives are en-forced. BE INFORMED
Persons who are ill (fever, cough, shortness of breath, chills, loss of taste/smell etc.) as well as those with preexisting conditions should not attend Mass. Also, persons over 65 years old are at a higher risk of experiencing worse symptoms than others if they contract the coronavirus virus and should consider not attending Mass. Inform your congregation that if they are sick, then they should not be present and can join online instead. Remind them of the many opportunities for viewing Mass as posted on the diocesan website.
Until retracted or altered by Bishop Deshotel, all Catholics in the Diocese of Lafayette remain dis-pensed from their obligation from attending Sunday Masses. All the bishops of the State of Louisi-ana have determined that Catholics may fulfill their spiritual duty to consecrating the week (Sabbath) on any day of the week, including Monday-Saturday morning.
According to State regulation during Phase I, persons in public gatherings are required to wear
masks or face coverings.
PREPARE YOUR CHURCH Holy Water fonts are to remain empty and dry. Temporarily remove all missalettes, hymnals, information cards, etc., from pews. Post signs about not shaking hands and substituting non-contact greetings. Consider marking side walks or entry ways to indicate six feet spacing. Prepare the seating areas of your church to ensure social distancing. At least every other pew should be blocked off. Churches are to be sanitized between Masses. ENTERING CHURCH: THE CHURCH WILL OPEN ONE HOUR BEFORE EACH MASS, NOT BEFORE.
Masks or facial coverings should be worn as people exit their vehicles. When lining up to enter
the church, social distancing must be maintained.
Only one entrance into the church is to be allowed in order to ensure control of the number of
individuals entering the church. T H E E N R A N C E D O O R U S E D W I L L B E T H E
C E N T E R D O O R I N F R O N T O F C H U R C H . N o o t h e r d o o r s w i l l b e u s e d
a s e n t r a n c e s w i t h t h e e x c e p t i o n o f t h o s e w h o m u s t u s e t h e h a n d i c a p
r a m p .
To ensure social distancing is maintained, there will be a limit on the number of people who will be
allowed to attend Mass in the church. During Phase I of reopening, only 25% of the Church's
occupancy can be available for attendance (occupancy). NOTE: ST ANNE CAN ACCOM-
MODATE NO MORE THAN 100 PEOPLE. At some point, people may need to be turned away.
This may be difficult and upsetting to some; however, maintaining social distancing requirements
as established by the CDC is crucial and required by law.
Persons from a single household are considered as one unit and may sit together. Though each
individual must be counted towards the 25% occupancy rate. Other individuals must be seated at least six feet apart. NOTE: AT ST. ANNE, ONLY TWO PEOPLE WILL BE ALLOWED PER PEW, SITTING AT SEPARATE ENDS (necessary due to the small pews and the six feet distance requirement by law.) The ONLY exceptions will be if there are small children accompanying their parents.
DEVELOP A “TURN AWAY PLAN: St. Anne will have an overflow plan by directing people
to the Parish hall for video viewing of the Mass with reception of Holy Commuion during the Communion Rite.
Once you have reached the total of 25% maximum, remind people that they may come to anoth-
er weekend Mass, watch Mass on their computer/TV, make a spiritual communion (consider preparing handouts) or fulfill their desire to worship at any weekday Mass. It is essential that ushers be reminded to speak kindly but firmly. Apologize to people for the inconvenience. Re-mind them that they remain dispensed from their Sunday obligation. It may be helpful to work with local law enforcement to make the announcement: "I am sorry but we are beyond our ca-pacity to admit anyone else into the church."
MASS AND THE DISTRIBUTION OF HOLY COMMUNION
The sign of peace is omitted or with a bow of the head only.
Eucharistic Ministers (Clergy and extraordinary/lay) over age sixty-five (65) should be discouraged from distributing Holy Communion.
Eucharistic Ministers (clergy and lay) are required to wear a mask during the distribution of Holy
Communion. The priest celebrant and other clergy are not to wear masks during the other parts of Mass. Lectors are to remove their masks before approaching the ambo for the proclamation of the readings.
Prior to distribution, the congregation is to be instructed about the procedure for the distribu-
tion of Holy Communion, including leaving one's mask on… NOTE: AT ST. ANNE, PA-
RISHIONERS WILL REMAIN IN THEIR PEWS WHILE THE MINISTERS COME TO
THEM TO DISTRIBUTE HOLY COMMUNION.
Holy Communion on the tongue is discontinued until health conditions improve. This instruc-
tion will not remain indefinitely.
Communicants are to lower their masks only immediately before receiving Holy Communion. After
receiving they are to again cover their mouths with their masks.
Eucharistic ministers are to distribute Holy Communion with no bodily contact. They are to gen-
tly drop the Host from approximately ½ inch from the communicant ' s hand or let the Host
barely touch the communicant's hand and allow it to drop it into the person's hand without
touching.
AFTER MASS
The virus remains for several hours on paper surfaces. Therefore, bulletins must be handed out with gloves and face masks. Do not allow people to come by and pick up bulletins out of stacks or racks.
Parishioners may exit from all exit doors FOLLOWING THE DIRECTION OF THE ARROWS
POSTED ON THE FLOOR. After Mass, people are to be instructed to proceed immediately
to their vehicles. Do not allow people to assemble and socialize outside / inside of church. Cler-
gy should not at this time greet people at the door after Mass.
Continue offering online giving options. During weekdays Masses if passing collections is impractical,
have stations in the church where people may drop off offerings or encourage people to drop off or mail in their offerings.
MISCELLANEOUS
Determine whether you may need security or the assistance of local police during Mass times, especial-ly before Mass as attendance capacity is reached. After Mass, ensure that doors are propped open in order to preclude constant touching of doors.
Children's Church, childcare, babysitting (or similar) are suspended during Phase I. The American
Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children 2 years of age and under do not wear masks or face coverings.
Thank you for your cooperation and please continue to foster a spirit of charity, reverence and
cheerfulness.
Approved Most Reverend 1 Douglas Deshotel Mrs. Maureen K. Fontenot, PHR, SHRM-CP Chancellor
