Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear Sisters and Brothers,

There is no doubt that our human happiness comes from our

enjoyment and satisfaction about our life’s experiences. That happy

realization of ourselves we accomplish by doing what is good for

ourselves and for others. But as they say there is more happiness in

giving than in receiving. Why is that ??? What is wrong with

receiving ??? Happiness comes from knowledge that we are blessed, but

if we would just collect the blessings for ourselves we would discover that

we are selfish, self serving, empty collectors of blessings that would be

wasted if not shared with others.

For ourselves we need that minimum of blessings to be able to

perceive that we are loved by God and by others. After we realize that, we are moved to share that

experience with others, the experience of being blessed, of being loved. There is a multiplication of joy in

sharing what we have and who we are, and it is called love. Love is in mutual sharing, and not in selfish

self satisfaction. Love is more in giving, in caring about the other. But we cannot give what we don’t have.

This is why we need to receive love, we need to be loved. This is why we need others to love us, so

that we can love them in return. And given that our human life has great limits, barriers and pains, so we

need to know and perceive the love of God which is the source of all that is good, the source of all love.

Knowing God’s love is even greater than knowing human love. This is why we need to know the love of

God, so that even if all human love should fail us, we still are loved by God, and that love is enough for us

to be happy. In fact, God’s love is necessary for us to be happy in the face of adversity from life itself and

from others. Human mutual love ends with death, God’s love never ends.

This is why in the Gospel, Jesus wants to awaken us to the love of God for us, so that we could love

God in return. By doing that we become the best person that we can be, because by knowing and loving

God, that is the source of all good, source of life and of love, we gain access to infinity of love. Love of

God brings to perfection our human love. Love of God never ends.

Jesus challenges all of us to be selfless by being totally selfless himself. He leads us by example.

This kind of love we can learn only from God, we can learn only from Jesus. There is no greater love than

this; when one lays down his own life for his friends.

This is why Jesus does what he does and He invites us to do the same. So in the Gospel of today he

asked the disciples to trust him and to trust in God, that is the only way we can access the love of God and

the depths of love within us.

Queridas Hermanas y Hermanos:

No hay duda de que nuestra felicidad humana proviene de nuestro disfrute y

satisfacción por la experiencia de nuestra vida. Esa feliz realización de nosotros mismos

lo logramos haciendo lo que es bueno para nosotros y para los demás. Pero como dicen,

hay mas felicidad en dar que en recibir. ¿Por qué es eso? ¿Qué hay de malo en recibir?

La felicidad proviene del conocimiento de que somos bendecidos, pero si solo

recolectáramos las bendiciones para nosotros mismos, descubriríamos que somos egoístas, coleccionistas vacíos de

bendiciones que se desperdiciarían si no se compartieran con otros. Para nosotros necesitamos ese mínimo de

bendiciones para poder percibir que somos amados por Dios y por los demás. Después de darnos cuenta de eso, nos

conmueve compartir esa experiencia con otros, la experiencia de ser bendecidos, de ser amados. Hay una

multiplicación de alegría al compartir mutuamente, y no la satisfacción egoísta. El amor es mas en dar, en

preocuparse por el otro.

Pero no podemos dar lo que no tenemos. Por eso necesitamos recibir amor, necesitamos ser amados. Por

eso necesitamos que otros nos amen, para que podamos amarlos a cambio. Y dado que nuestra vida humana tiene

grandes limites, barreras y dolores, debemos conocer y percibir el amor de Dios que es la fuente de todo lo que es

bueno, la fuente de todo lo que vivimos. Saber el amor de Dios es aun mas grande que conocer el amor humano.

Por eso necesitamos conocer el amor de Dios, de modo que incluso si todo el amor humano nos falla, todavía somos

amados por Dios, y ese amor es suficiente para que seamos felices. De hecho, el amor de Dios es necesario para que

seamos felices frente a la Adversidad de la vida misma y de los demas. El amor mutuo humano termina con la

muerte, el amor de Dios nunca termina.

Por eso, en el Evangelio, Jesús quiere despertarnos al amor de Dios por nosotros, para que podamos amar a

Dios a cambio. Al hacer eso, nos convertimos en la mejor persona que podemos ser, porque al conocer y amar a

Dios, esa es la fuente de todo bien, fuente de vida y amor, obtenemos acceso al infinito de amor. El amor de Dios

lleva a la perfección nuestro amor humano. El amor de Dios nunca termina.

Jesús nos desafía a todos a ser desinteresados siendo nosotros mismos totalmente desinteresados. El nos

guía con el ejemplo. Este tipo de amor podemos aprender solo de Dios, podemos aprender solo de Jesús. No hay

amor mas grande que este; Cuando uno da su propia vida por sus amigos.

Es por esto que Jesús hace lo que hace y nos invita a hacer esto mismo. Entonces, en el Evangelio de hoy,

les pidió a los discípulos que confiaran en El y que confiaran en Dios, esa es la única manera en que podemos

acceder al amor de Dios y a las profundidades del amor dentro de nosotros.

Dios les bendiga a todos siempre!!!

growing and we could use a few more young adults to help us. We meet on Friday nights 7-9 in the rectory basement. Looking for young adults in their 20s & 30s who like teens and want to help them on their journey through life during the

V DOMINGO DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO ‘C’ Is 6:1,3-8 Sal 137:1-5,7-8 1Cor 15:1-11 Lucas 5:1-11

Hoy la temática es sobre “la elección para una misión”, la respuesta del elegido es libre y

voluntaria. Podemos considerar que aun con pecados y debilidades, la persona puede respon-

der al llamado de Dios, si no es par una gran hazaña, al menos para hacer el bien. Eso es lo que

aconteció con Isaías “a quien Dios purifico sus labios”, o a Pedro “a quien Jesús manda remar

mar adentro”, al final, uno con el don profético y el otro con la acción pastoral, convocados en

diferentes momentos de la historia, también hoy el Señor sigue necesitando hombres y mujeres

que apuesten por llevar una palabra o un gesto alentador al hombre sumido en la miseria y en el

desconsuelo. Estar atentos a ese “guiño divino” es lo que todo creyente debe esperar, quizá nada

extraordinario, a lo mejor en “una brisa suave” como sucedió a Elías, también profeta (1Re

19,12). A continuación, transcribo un ejerció de Lectio Divina tomado de la Biblia del Pueblo de

Dios.*

Lea: Simón había estado intentando pescar toda la noche. Jesús le pide, sin embargo, que lance

sus redes una vez más, y consigue una gran pesca. Jesús llama a Simón y a sus compañeros y

ellos le siguen como discípulos. Su poder sanador revela la liberación de Dios.

Reflexione: Simón confía en las palabras de Jesús a pesar de su fracaso inicial.

¿Confía usted en la Palabra del Señor? ¿Se siente llamado por El? ¿De qué nos libera hoy

el Señor?

Ore: Ruegue al Espíritu de Jesús que aumente su fe para confiar siempre en su Palabra y ser su

discípulo.

Actúe: Hable a los suyos de lo que significa tener fe en Jesús y de la Misión a la que nos llama:

el RD.

La pêche miraculeuses et l’appel de Simon-Pierre (Luc 5 :1-11)

La foule se pressait autour de Jésus pour écouter la parole de Dieu, tandis qu’il se tenait au bord du lac

de Génésareth. Il vit deux barques qui se trouvaient au bord du lac ; les pêcheurs en étaient descendus

et lavaient leurs filets. Jésus monta dans une des barques qui appartenait à Simon, et lui demanda de

s’écarter un peu du rivage. Puis il s’assit et, de la barque, il enseignait les foules. Quand il eut fini de

parler, il dit à Simon : « Avance au large, et jetez vos filets pour la pêche. » Simon lui répondit : «

Maître, nous avons peiné toute la nuit sans rien prendre ; mais, sur ta parole, je vais jeter les filets. »

Et l’ayant fait, ils capturèrent une telle quantité de poissons que leurs filets allaient se déchirer. Ils

firent signe à leurs compagnons de l’autre barque de venir les aider. Ceux-ci vinrent, et ils remplirent

les deux barques, à tel point qu’elles s’enfonçaient. À cette vue, Simon-Pierre tomba aux pieds de

Jésus, en disant : « Éloigne-toi de moi, Seigneur, car je suis un homme pécheur. » En effet, un grand

effroi l’avait saisi, lui et tous ceux qui étaient avec lui, devant la quantité de poissons qu’ils avaient

pêchés ; et de même Jacques et Jean, fils de Zébédée, les associés de Simon. Jésus dit à Simon : « Sois

sans crainte, désormais ce sont des hommes que tu prendras ». Alors ils ramenèrent les barques au

rivage et, laissant tout, ils le suivirent.
