Dear Fellow Parishioners, Many fairy tales talk about a genie in a bottle, who offers to grant a wish. The moral of such stories is always that you should be very careful what you ask for, as things might turn out very badly for you otherwise! Young King Solomon, famous for his wisdom, shows us how to make goodness our priority, rather than power and wealth:

The LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream at night.

God said, “Ask something of me and I will give it to you.”

Solomon answered: “O LORD, my God, you have made me, your

servant, king to succeed my father David;

but I am a mere youth, not knowing at all how to act.

I serve you in the midst of the people whom you have chosen,

a people so vast that it cannot be numbered or counted.

Give your servant, therefore, an understanding heart

to judge your people and to distinguish right from wrong.

For who is able to govern this vast people of yours?”

(1 Kings 3:5)

What a beautiful, faith-filled request Solomon makes. He wants to serve as a truly good king, and so he asks God to grant him “an understanding heart” to carry out his responsibilities well. We too can focus our prayer on becoming closer to Jesus through prayer, service, penance, worship, Bible study, fellowship, and meditation. Possessions we cannot take with us to the next life, but a legacy of goodness and faith will accompany us now and forever: a blessing to those we meet and an inspiration to any who might think the Christian faith is merely a thing of the past. Converts often join the Catholic Church precisely because we have seen something in God’s people that inspires us – this was true for me my first year of college, and it is true for people right now in 2020 who asks to be welcomed into the Catholic faith. Parents, political leaders, teachers, godparents…all of us need divine guidance to carry out what God has placed before us as vocation and duty. Through Jesus the risen and glorified, let us make Solomon’s prayer our own. Father Brown

We’ve Been Busy The Corona Virus has not stopped the work of St. Anselm’s MOC (Marin Organizing Committee) team. While sheltering in place we:

-Contacted long time parishioners to make sure they were being cared for while sheltering in place;

-Held three food drives for Ritter Center

-Participated in a state wide effort with other IAF organizations to include in the California budget the expansion of the California Earned Income Tax Credit (CalEITC) to tax filers who use an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN). At this time, only families with children under age 6 will be included, but this is an incredible first step toward a more equitable California for all. This effort included a Zoom call with over 1,000 individuals including Catholic bishops and leaders of multiple faiths. This item has been on the legislative agenda before but until we became involved it had never had the support to pass. ….. to be continued

If you would like to become involved or would like more information, contact Pat Langley ([email protected]) or Deacon Bernie O’Halloran

([email protected])

Dear Parishioner– Due to the Corona Virus Guidelines, we are not allowed to take up a collection with baskets during the Mass. You can also donate to the parish through mail (PO Box 1061, Ross, 94957), by dropping it in our locked box near the front door of the Rectory/Office, or via our church website-www.saintanselm.org.
