God is good!
This Christmas season, we also celebrate the feast of the Holy
Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. This feast is usually celebrated on
the Sunday after Christmas. But, if Christmas falls on Sunday, then
the feast is celebrated on December 30th.
It is both appropriate and wonderful to celebrate the feast of
the Holy Family during the season of Christmas. It is wonderful since
Christmas is the best time for the family to come together. Christ-
mas is more meaningful and best celebrated with the family. The
family enhances the bliss and joy of Christmas. As we rejoice the
birth of Jesus, we turn our focus towards the larger picture, his fami-
ly. The feast of the Holy Family enlightens us and reminds us of the
role of Mary and Joseph in God’s divine plan for our salvation.
It is also appropriate to celebrate the feast of the Holy Family
within the Christmas season to remind us that God enters into our
human family. He did not just come into the world out of nowhere,
but He came to us through the human family. He was conceived and
born into a human family like us. This feast day reminds us of the
sacredness of the family. This is why we
call our family the domestic church.
Let us always remember,
“the family that prays together, stays
together.”

Last Week’s Question: Mary and Joseph travelled 90 miles from Nazareth to Bethlehem, as we hear at Christmas. Later, as a family, Mary, Joseph, and Je-sus traveled several times from Nazareth to Jerusa-lem. How many miles was that journey?
Ask...The Stewards! In this weekend's Gospel, we learn that Jesus took the opportunity to explore the faith by seeking out leaders that he could question and listen, so he could grow deeper in knowledge. We should not be content with the catechism of our youth but find ways to grow and study our faith. Do you take your faith for granted, or do you seek to become more engaged in it through readings and faith formation sessions in our parish? This WEEK'S Stewardship Challenge--As we begin a new year, let's commit to reading more about our faith. A good place to start is the Catechism of the Catholic Church.

Hawaii March for Life Tuesday. January 22, 2019, 3pm-9pm at the Hawaii State Capital. 2019 March for Life theme: “Unique from Day One: Pro- Life is Pro Science”. We are ex-ploring the use of a bus which will be contingent on the num-ber of parishioners who register for bus transportation. More details to follow.

FAMILY PROMISE: Helping Families
Transition to Sustainable Housing Aloha! Thanks to our partnership with Family Promise of Hawaii, we have the opportunity to help homeless fami-lies with children transition to sustainable housing solu-tions by providing food and lodging from January 20 –27. What We Need: If you are interested in helping with tasks as simple as providing dinner for the families for one night, serving as chaperone, playing with the chil-dren while parents get other siblings showered and ready for bed, etc., please contact Becky Mia at 808-372-6278. program took place on Thursday, Dec 20, and was full of lively Christmas carols by our very talented students. Thanks to the many gifted teachers, vol-unteers, and espe-cially Kepa Stern, our Music Director, for a beautiful and memorable evening. Happy New Years to all our students & families!
Students are on vacation until January 8, 2019. We wish them all a safe and restful break and a very
happy New Year.
Do you have a PC laptop with a Microsoft Windows XP or newer operating system you would like to donate to our school? St. Anthony’s school has received a software program called EyeSpy 20/20 for vision testing from the Lions Club through “Project Vision.” With the help of this program, children’s vision can be tested year-round at school. The equipment requires several PC laptops with a Microsoft Windows XP or newer operating system, 13” screen, 100 MB of hard drive space and a USB port and USB mouse. As the school only has Mac Books, we are hoping for a dona-tion of used PC laptops for this purpose. If you are able to help, please contact the school at 261-3331. Mahalo for your support!

We begin a new year, the year of our Lord 2019, by looking back on 2018 and reviewing how we lived our lives and identifying where we can do better in the new year. How can we be better Christians? How can we strengthen our Catholic faith? How can we better help each other, our families, and our parish to be faithful followers of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior? How can we be better stewards of the talents bestowed on us by our Lord? Is there a ministry where we can share our talents?
We are blessed to be a part of St. Anthony of Padua parish, an ohana (family) comprised of caring, dedicat-ed, and committed people who come together to wor-ship. But, our place of worship needs repairs. Just as we take pride in where we live by caring and maintain-ing our homes, so, too, must we care about our place of worship by maintaining our church. Our church needs our help.
Please prayerfully consider making a contribution to-wards our Five Year Repair & Maintenance Plan. Your donations will help cover the costs of much needed re-pairs. “Whatever you do in word or in deed, do every-thing in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
