St Arnold’s School Jhartarang Notice to Parents and Students 12 April 2020 Dear Parents and Students, Greetings from St Arnold’s School! I believe that you are all safe and healthy at home. Coming to school, meeting teachers and friends, taking part in various activities, etc. are all part of true learning, but we miss all that for time being. Because of the current situation we are not able to come together and have a normal class. But learning cannot stop and should not stop. So we have adopted a new mode of learning that is online. We know that online learning cannot replace real classroom learning. It is a new experience for teachers, students and parents. With the limited technology that is available with us we all are taking part in the teaching learning process using WhatsApp and YouTube. We have created WhatsApp groups for the whole school so that teachers, parents and students can remain connected and support each other. Our teachers are always ready to help you during these tough times. Feel free to contact and share your concerns. Now that the learning is mainly through online content we are so much dependent on smartphones. Using smartphones for learning purpose is a challenging one because we can easily get distracted. Calls and messages will come at any time. We may be tempted to spend more time scrolling down the pages of Facebook, Instagram and other websites. Only a disciplined approach can help us to make the best use of time in the present scenario. After discussion with teachers I would like to give the following guidelines to you. 1. Regulate your time online: In the present situation being online is the only way to connect to people outside our homes. This means more time with our smartphones and laptops. WE need to regulate ourselves to attain sustainability in this approach. Teachers will be available to the students and parents for teaching and clarifying doubts from morning 9:00 onwards up to evening 7:00. Students can ask doubts in the group as well as call teachers personally. We recommend students to stop online learning activities and switch to textbook learning after 7:00 pm. It is not good for your physical and mental health to spend too much time with your smartphones and screen learning. We recommend students to go to bed early and rise early. If you don’t keep your screens away at least one hour before you go to bed, it is going to affect your sleep. Let us be more responsible in handling our gadgets and in spending time online for our own good health of mind and body. 2. Sunday - A Digital Holiday: I would recommend Sunday to be considered as an ‘off day’ for all digital activities. From Monday to Saturday all the students and teachers are engaged in the online platform. It is good to take a weekly break from all such screen related activities. We can spend Sunday in more creative activities such as art, craft, music, cooking, reading, writing, whatever that is non-digital. It will help in bringing some balance between digital and non-digital activities. 3. Publishing ‘The Silver Lining’: We encourage students to bring out their creativity through their talents in writing stories, essays, poems, reflections, thoughts, paintings, drawings, cartoons, etc., related to the experience that each one as well as the world is going through during this pandemic. We will publish your creative and original works in the book titled “The Silver Lining.” Send your works to your class teacher through WhatsApp. We know that some students are already doing it and we want more students to join. We thank all the parents, students and teachers for their kind cooperation with everyone. These are the times we should feel as one Arnold family. We pray for the health and safety of every one of you. God bless you and be merciful to the whole world. Fr Francis Jos Fr K C Thomas Principal Manager

Dear Parents and Students, Greetings from St Arnold’s School!

If you don’t keep your screens away at least one hour before you go to bed, it is going to affect your sleep. Let us be more responsible in handling our gadgets and in spending time online for our own good health of mind and body.

2. Sunday - A Digital Holiday: I would recommend Sunday to be considered as an ‘off day’ for all digital

activities.

3. Publishing ‘The Silver Lining’: We encourage students to bring out their creativity through their

talents in writing stories, essays, poems, reflections, thoughts, paintings, drawings, cartoons, etc., related to the experience that each one as well as the world is going through during this pandemic. We will publish your creative and original works in the book titled “The Silver Lining.” Send your works to your class teacher through WhatsApp. We know that some students are already doing it and we want more students to join.

We thank all the parents, students and teachers for their kind cooperation with everyone. These are the times

we should feel as one Arnold family. We pray for the health and safety of every one of you. God bless you and be merciful to the whole world.
