The scheme was chosen by WAG to be a pilot project designed to achieve the Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4 for the delivery of 16 houses and flats of a variety of sizes. The site was designed with a southerly aspect to take advantage of free solar gains to offset heating, to achieve good quality day lighting and sunny external spaces.
Sustainability targets were an important aspect of the scheme from an early stage. The strategy was to develop a modular form scheme to reduce the carbon footprint within the construction process by utilizing MMC principles. Thus a high percentage of the building fabric was prefabricated off-site and renewable materials and local supply chains were utilized to their greatest potential.
