Querida Comunidad de San Agustín,
Este domingo el Evangelio de Juan nos presenta la conocida historia de la multiplicación de los panes y los peces. Jesús alimenta a la multitud con cinco panes y dos pescados. Vamos a reflexionar sobre tres actitudes, la de Felipe y Andrés, la del niño y la de Jesús.
Ante la realidad con que se enfrentan, los discípulos no ven más allá de lo material y dan una respuesta lógica: no tenemos suficiente. El niño da lo poco que tiene: sabe compartir, es desprendido y lo entrega todo Jesús da gracias a Dios y reparte.
Hermanos, creo que la enseñanza es sencilla y a la vez poderosa. Cuando damos gracias a Dios por lo que tenemos y sabemos “com-partir” y “re-partir”; ocurre el milagro. El milagro se repite cada vez que somos agradecidos, cuando sabemos reconocer las maravillas que Dios nos regala y compartimos los bienes materiales que recibimos de El con aquéllos que los necesitan.
Por supuesto, el milagro lo hizo Jesús, el Hijo de Dios; pero, en realidad, ¿quién alimentó a la multitud? Creo que el niño que supo poner a la disposición de Jesús lo poco que tenía para que el Maestro lo multiplicara. Saben una cosa, el fin de semana pasado, Jesús volvió a hacer el milagro. Esta vez fue por medio de muchos de ustedes que trajeron sus postres para ayudar a La Coalición por Los que No Tienen Hogar (Coalition for the Homeless) a alimentarlos. Al ver tantos “postres”, una persona me comentó, “Tenemos una comunidad muy generosa”. ¡Es verdad! ¡Gracias a todos los que colaboraron! ¡Continuemos ayudando a Jesús a hacer milagros!
Reflexionemos: Cuándo se trata de poner en manos del Señor las cosas materiales, ¿qué actitud tomamos, la de los discípulos o la del niño? ¿Qué le entregamos al Señor, lo que nos sobra o se lo damos todo? ¿Cuántas veces le agradecemos a Dios lo que nos concede?
Como les decía la semana pasada, el fin de semana del 25 y el 26 de agosto celebraremos a nuestro Santo patrón, San Agustín. Comenzaremos el sábado 25, a las 10:30am con la Oración de la Mañana y continuaremos celebrando en el Centro de Vida Familiar hasta las 3:30pm. Todos somos San Agustín ¡Los esperamos!
¡Que Dios continúe bendiciéndolos!
Reflection
Dear Community of St. Augustine,
This Sunday, St. John’s Gospel presents us the well-known story of the loaves and the fish. Jesus feeds the crowd with five loaves of bread and two fish. Let us reflect on three different attitudes, that of Philip and Andrew, the boy’s and Jesus’ attitude.
Facing reality, the disciples only see the material side of the situation and respond with logic – we don’t have enough. The boy simply gives all he had, which was not much. Jesus gives thanks to God and distributes what had been given to Him.
My dear brothers and sisters, the teaching at hand is both simple and powerful. When we thank God for what we have and share it, miracles happen. Miracles happen every time we are grateful, recognize the wonders God gives us and share the material things we receive from Him with those in need.
Of course, Jesus, the Son of God, is the One who performed the miracle. But, in reality, who fed the crowd? I think the child fed the crowd as he gave Jesus all he had, his two fish, for the Master to multiply them. Do you know what? Last weekend Jesus performed the miracle again when many of you brought desserts to help the Coalition for the Homeless to feed them. On seeing so many desserts, a person told me, “We really have a very generous community.” We do, indeed! Many thanks to all those who contributed! Let us continue to help Jesus to perform miracles!
Let us reflect: When it is about placing the material things we have in God’s hands, what is our attitude, the disciples’ or the boy’s? What do we give to the Lord, what is left or everything? How many times do we thank God for what He gives us?
As I told you last week, on the weekend of August 25th—26th we will celebrate our Patron Saint, St. Augustine. We will start on Saturday, the 25th, at 10:30am with the Morning Prayer, and we will continue in the Parish Life Center until 3:30pm. We are all St. Augustine. I hope to see you there!
May God continue to bless you abundantly!

In Our Parish (En Nuestra Parroquia) FOOD DRIVE This weekend we will be handing out the bags for non-perishables groceries. You can donate as few or as many food items as you want. The food items will be given to the Sharing Center (Seminole County). Please bring your food bags back to the church the weekend of August 4th—5th. Together we will help those in need. PRAYER AND LIFE WORKSHOPS Do you want to experience the love of God in your life? Do you want to have a closer relationship with God? Then, the Prayer and Life Workshops by Father Ignacio Larrañaga is for you! For the English sessions we will start either on Thursday, August 2nd at 4:30pm, Friday, August 3rd at 6:30pm, OR Tuesday, August 7th at 9:45am. MISSION COOPERATIVE APPEAL The Missionary Cooperative Program of the Pontifical Mission Society gives us the opportunity to truly be part of the Universal Catholic Church. Next week, we will have a second collection for The Lamb Shall Lead Mission from the Philippines. The goal of their ministry with their grassroots communities is to empower the poor to help the poorest of the poor. Funds from this appeal will be used to: 1) replicate sustainable livelihood in urban and rural
areas through livestock and organic farming; 2) establish a training center to develop capacities for
management leadership and education-formation of lay missioners;
3) Provide care to malnourished children, who die due to simple and curable diseases, and to help the elderly sick through medical, optical and dental healing missions; and
4) Rehabilitation of the poor affected due to outmigration, forced relocation and natural calamities.
Please prayerfully consider how you can support this appeal.

LLAMADO PARA LAS MISIONES CATÓLICAS El Programa de Cooperación Misionera de la Obra Pontificia nos da la oportunidad de ser realmente parte de la Iglesia católica universal. La próxima semana, tendremos una segunda colecta para la misión “The Lamb Shall Lead” de las Filipinas. El objetivo de su ministerio con sus comunidades de base es capacitar a los pobres para ayudar a los más pobres entre los pobres. Los fondos se usarán para: 1) replicar medios de vida sostenibles en áreas urbanas y
rurales a través de la ganadería y la agricultura orgánica; 2) establecer un centro de capacitación para desarrollar
capacidades para el liderazgo gerencial y la formación educativa de los misioneros laicos;
3) Brindar cuidados a niños desnutridos, que mueren debido a enfermedades simples y curables, y ayudar a los ancianos enfermos a través de misiones médicas, ópticas y de curación dental; y
