RESPECT LIFE CORNER Holy Week Is Here - If your Lenten journey has been difficult, remember that it’s meant to be that

way. Giving of ourselves in the midst of our suffering and self-denial brings us closer to loving like

Christ, who suffered and poured himself out unconditionally on the Cross for all of us. Learn, Act,

Connect, Pray: Lent officially ends as the Mass of the Lord’s Supper begins. Plan to participate in the

moving liturgies of the Triduum in your parish. The summit of the liturgical year, the Easter Triduum

begins Holy Thursday and continues into the evening of Easter Sunday. While chronologically three

days, they are liturgically one day unfolding for us the unity of Christ’s Paschal Mystery.

ANNUAL SPRING BLESSING OF THE FARM

All are invited to the Annual Diocesan Spring Blessing of the Farm, which will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2019, at 1:00 P.M. at Frey Farms. Frey Farms is located at 22251 County Rd. 700 E; Dahlgren, Illinois 62828. Frey Farms can be arrived at by traveling on Interstate 64, taking exit 100 south (toward McLeansboro) onto IL-242 going 3 miles to turn right onto Belle Prairie Rd. (or travel north of McLeansboro on IL-242 to turn left onto Belle Prairie Rd. 3 miles south of I-64). Turning west onto Belle Prairie Rd. travel exactly 1 mile. Just past some gravel piles, veer right turning onto Grubb Memorial Drive heading north traveling for ½ mile. Next, veer left turning onto County Road 2200 N. heading west for 1 mile. Then turn right onto County Road 700 E. heading north for ½ mile. Farm will be on your left with a two-story white home. “Farm Blessing” signs will also lead you to the farm. Those attending are invited to bring seed and soil in marked containers along with animals and farm machinery to be blessed. Food will also be collected for the needy of the area. Please join us for food and fellowship following the Blessing!

to pray and sacrifice more in order to grow closer to the Risen Christ.

ADULT BASKET STAND – if you have baskets or decorative containers, if you have items to put in baskets, you are encouraged to bring early. Barb Bruss will put the baskets together for you!! Just drop off at the Parish Office on Mondays or Thursdays and leave at the front entrance to Church. A plastic bin will be there for your items. We will NOT be using the usual plastic bags this year so don’t worry about those! You are welcome to drop off now rather than waiting til picnic week!!!!

MASS OF CHRISM HELD DURING HOLY WEEK

Bishop Edward K. Braxton will celebrate the Mass of Chrism in the Cathedral of St. Peter in Belleville on Tuesday, April 16th, 2019 at 11:30am. The Oil of the Sick, used in the Anointing of the Sick, and the Oil of Catechumens & the Sacred Chrism, used in Baptism, are blessed at this Mass. The Priests renew their ordination promises. This Mass begins at 11:30 am to better allow the school children to participate. All are invited to attend this Chrism Mass. Parking is available in the Cathedral Grade School lot and the lot below the Chancery parking lot.

On April 18, 2019, as a Lenten project, St. Augustine Parish in Belleville will be hosting our Fifth Annual

Empty Bowl soup tasting event. Attendees will pay $10 to dine on soups donated by participating restaurants

and organizations. All you want to eat soup, bread and water will be the menu to remind us that quite often this

is all that some people will have for a meal. Carry outs will be available. Attendees who come to the event

will have the opportunity to sample any of the soups and will be given a ballot to vote for their favorite soup.

The soup receiving the most votes will receive a plaque to display at their business.

From the Catechism…Matrimony

Let’s look at some paragraphs from the Catechism of the Catholic Church regarding the effects of the Sacrament of Matrimony, specifically, the marriage bond: 1638 "From a valid marriage arises a bond between the spouses which by its very nature is perpetual and exclusive; furthermore, in a Christian marriage the spouses are strengthened and, as it were, consecrated for the duties and the dignity of their state by a special sacrament." 1639 The consent by which the spouses mutually give and receive one another is sealed by God himself. From their covenant arises "an institution, confirmed by the divine law, . . . even in the eyes of society." The covenant between the spouses is integrated into God's covenant with man: "Authentic married love is caught up into divine love." 1640 Thus the marriage bond has been established by God himself in such a way that a marriage concluded and consummated between baptized persons can never be dissolved. This bond, which results from the free human act of the spouses and their consummation of the marriage, is a reality, henceforth irrevocable, and gives rise to a covenant guaranteed by God's fidelity. The Church does not have the power to contravene this disposition of divine wisdom. As we have seen before, though, there are cases where a valid marriage bond never existed because the marriage promises were made under duress or because of other reasons.
