DIOCESAN EVENTS

RESPECT LIFE CORNER “I am the way, and the truth and the life.” John 14:6 In John’s Gospel, Jesus is again

encouraging his disciples to have faith and trust in Him and to” be not afraid.” By believing in

Him, they also believe in His Father and soon the Holy Spirit, which makes up the Holy

Trinity. The disciples are worried about how to follow their beloved friend, Jesus, who

walked with them, talked with them, taught them and ate with them. They are confused over

how to follow where Jesus is going—to heaven, His Father’s house. Jesus urges them to trust

and to “not let your hearts be troubled.” The disciples were unsure what was happening and

filled with fear. How many of us relate to that in our present day with the COVID-19

pandemic. We reflect today on how important it is to place everything at the foot of the cross.

By the cross, we have been set free from fear, trepidation and anxiety. Christ has redeemed

the world. It is our job to listen to Him. Think, Act, Connect and Pray-Praying through

transitions can be extremely helpful. Let Jesus walk with you. Speak with him about what has

gone in your life and share your feelings. Remember to keep Christ’s love for you in your

heart as you look to the past… and to the future, a new place God has in store for you!

Mothers’ Day – what a wonderful commemoration of one of the greatest

vocations there is. We are inspired by the example of Mary, the Mother of

God, to live by the words from the Cana feast “Do whatever He tells you”.

We pray for all our Mothers today and for the families they work, nurture,

and love. We also ponder our own “FIAT” – our surrendering to God’s plan

for us.

HAVE YOU HEARD OF SERRA CLUB? The Serra Club of St. Clair County is an organization of

Catholic men and women, dedicated to foster and affirm vocations to the Priesthood and vowed

religious life. Our purpose is to inform our community of the need for all vocations. We honor

our religious with an annual Nuns Luncheon, a Deacon Dinner, a Priest Picnic and a new Priest

Dinner. We pray for our seminarians and help them celebrate their birthdays.

Our club meets every first and third Friday of the month at the Shrine of our Lady of the Snows.

There is a Mass at 11:45am, lunch, a brief meeting, and a guest speaker. You are welcome to

join us as our guest. For more information please contact Marvin Winkeler (402-214-1155) or

Mel Lucash (618-531-4244). PRAY FOR VOCATIONS!

The Fifth Glorious Mystery

THE CORONATION

1. As Mary enters heaven, the entire court of heaven greets with joy this

masterpiece of God's creation.

2. Mary is crowned by her divine Son as Queen of heaven and earth.

3. More than we can ever know the Hearts of Jesus and Mary overflow with joy at

this reunion.

4. Only in heaven will we know the great majesty of that coronation, and the joy it

gave to the angels and saints.

5. Even the angels, who by nature are greater than humans, hail Mary as their

Queen.

6. Mary shares so fully in the glory of Christ because she shared so fully in His

suffering.

7. Only in heaven will we see how central is the role of Mary in the divine plan of

redemption.

8. The angels and saints longed for the coming of her whose heel crushes the head

of the serpent.

9. Mary pleads our cause as a most powerful Queen and a most merciful and loving

Mother.

10. A great sign appeared in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, the moon under

her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars.

Spiritual Fruit: Let us pray that may the Risen Christ bring hope, faith and love to

all, especially those who have suffered any kind of loss during the Lenten season.

Life in Christ Last week we saw that, since God loves us, he calls us to know, love, and serve him now, in this life, so that we can live in love with him for eternity. Let us continue to see what the Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches about the beatitude, the happiness, of heaven: 1723 The beatitude we are promised confronts us with decisive moral choices. It invites us to purify our hearts of bad instincts and to seek the love of God above all else. It teaches us that true happiness is not found in riches or well-being, in human fame or power, or in any human achievement - however beneficial it may be - such as science, technology, and art, or indeed in any creature, but in God alone, the source of every good and of all love: “All bow down before wealth. Wealth is that to which the multitude of men pay an instinctive homage. They measure happiness by wealth; and by wealth they measure respectability. . . . It is a homage resulting from a profound faith . . . that with wealth he may do all things. Wealth is one idol of the day and notoriety is a second. . . . Notoriety, or the making of a noise in the world - it may be called ‘newspaper fame’ - has come to be considered a great good in itself, and a ground of veneration.” (Saint John Henry Cardinal Newman, died 1890). 1724 The Decalogue, the Sermon on the Mount, and the apostolic catechesis describe for us the paths that lead to the Kingdom of heaven. Sustained by the grace of the Holy Spirit, we tread them, step by step, by everyday acts. By the working of the Word of Christ, we slowly bear fruit in the Church to the glory of God. So, we see that, by the choices we make in life, with the help of God’s grace, we choose to love God now above all created things, as God prepares us for eternal life with him. - Fr. Von Deeke

The First Letter of Saint Peter: Here is chapter two of the First Letter of Saint Peter, from which our second reading is taken this Sunday, from the Good News Translation: 1 Rid yourselves, then, of all evil; no more lying or hypocrisy or jealousy or insulting language. 2 Be like newborn babies, always thirsty for the pure spiritual milk, so that by drinking it you may grow up and be saved. 3 As the scripture says, "You have found out for yourselves how kind the Lord is." 4 Come to the Lord, the living stone rejected by people as worthless but chosen by God as valuable. 5 Come as living stones, and let yourselves be used in building the spiritual temple, where you will serve as holy priests to offer spiritual and acceptable sacrifices to God through Jesus Christ. 6 For the scripture says, "I chose a valuable stone, which I am placing as the cornerstone in Zion; and whoever believes in him will never be disappointed." 7 This stone is of great value for you that believe; but for those who do not believe: "The stone which the builders rejected as worthless turned out to be the most important of all." 8 And another scripture says, "This is the stone that will make people stumble, the rock that will make them fall." They stumbled because they did not believe in the word; such was God's will for them. 9 But you are the chosen race, the King's priests, the holy nation, God's own people, chosen to proclaim the wonderful acts of God, who called you out of darkness into his own marvelous light. 10 At one time you were not God's people, but now you are his people; at one time you did not know God's mercy, but now you have received his mercy. 11 I appeal to you, my friends, as strangers and refugees in this world! Do not give in to bodily passions, which are always at war against the soul. 12 Your conduct among the heathen should be so good that when they accuse you of being evildoers, they will have to recognize your good deeds and so praise God on the Day of his coming. 13 For the sake of the Lord submit yourselves to every human authority: to the Emperor, who is the supreme authority, 14 and to the governors, who have been appointed by him to punish the evildoers and to praise those who do good. 15 For God wants you to silence the ignorant talk of foolish people by the good things you do. 16 Live as free people; do not, however, use your freedom to cover up any evil, but live as God's slaves. 17 Respect everyone, love other believers, honor God, and respect the Emperor. 18 You servants must submit yourselves to your masters and show them complete respect, not only to those who are kind and considerate, but also to those who are harsh. 19 God will bless you for this, if you endure the pain of undeserved suffering because you are conscious of his will. 20 For what credit is there if you endure the beatings you deserve for having done wrong? But if you endure suffering even when you have done right, God will bless you for it. 21 It was to this that God called you, for Christ himself suffered for you and left you an example, so that you would follow in his steps. 22 He committed no sin, and no one ever heard a lie come from his lips. 23 When he was insulted, he did not answer back with an insult; when he suffered, he did not threaten, but placed his hopes in God, the righteous Judge. 24 Christ himself carried our sins in his body to the cross, so that we might die to sin and live for righteousness. It is by his wounds that you have been healed. 25 You were like sheep that had lost their way, but now you have been brought back to follow the Shepherd and Keeper of your souls.
