Born to Eternal Life
Emma Stiltz (mother of Nick Borodaj) has passed into Eternal Life. We pray that she will inherit the promise of Christ.
Lent is the season of silence. It is a time to enter into the desert, as Jesus did for 40 days. In the February 26 issue of Chicago Catholic, please look for the article from Cardinal Blase Cupich about Lent and silence (chicagocatholic.com). In that piece, the Cardinal asks pastors to invite their communities to take extra time for silence after Communion to allow God to speak to us, for “nothing in all of creation is so like God as silence.”

February 9, 2017 Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, It is with some urgency that I write to you today, about a bill in our Illinois legislature, HB 40. The bill in question, if passed, would use tax dollars to pay for taking the life of a child in the womb through an abortion. There are strong indications that HB 40 could be enacted into law if we fail to act. In addition to mandating state funding of abortion through the Medicaid program, HB 40 also calls for abortion coverage in state employees’ health care plans. It also allows for the use of tax dollars to fund grants to organizations that refer, counsel for and perform abortions, e.g., Planned Parenthood. All of these state-funded mandates are currently prohibited by Illinois law. We have raised our voices in the past for those who have no voice, whether they be the immigrant or the refugee, the poor, or the unemployed. We now need to speak for the children in the womb, who are the weakest among us. We need to let our elected officials know that taxpayers should not be forced to fund the taking of human life. In fact, tax money should be used to fund prenatal services for the poor and child care for working mothers, as well as expand health-care options for those in need. Please join me in advocating for all life by urging your state representative to reject HB 40 and work instead to pass a budget that funds all essential services. The Season of Lent begins soon. Lent is a word that means “springtime,” the time of new life. Let us make this Lent a celebration of life by protecting the new life and hope the birth of a child brings to the world.
Sincerely yours in Christ,
Cardinal Blase J. Cupich Archbishop of Chicago

This weekend, our parish will be conducting the Annual Catholic Appeal in-pew Commitment Weekend. Please remember that the Annual Catholic Appeal is much different than a one-time special collection. It is a pledge campaign where you can make a gift payable in installments. The ACA theme, “Love Your Neighbor As Yourself,” was selected to remind us that our contributions to the Annual Catholic Appeal enable the funded ministries and services to share God’s love with many others in our Parish and our Archdiocese. Each pledge makes a difference because all Parishes participate in the campaign and the gifts of many enable our Archdiocese to deliver needed ministries and services. Thank you for your prayerful consideration and generous response.

ARE YOU A REGISTERED MEMBER OF THE PARISH?
Have you registered? Registration is very important, is a statement of your desire to be members of a Catholic community and a commitment to the life of this parish. Being a registered member of the parish will ease the process when it’s time to ask for a Baptism, Religious Education, Weddings, when they ask you to be a sponsor, godfather or godmother; or at the occasion of illness or death.
Often, people ask for letter of affidavit and those can only be provided to members who are registered, active, and contributing to the parish. How
do you know if you are registered? A registered member receives correspondence from the parish. If you're not, please register. Our registration process can be completed anytime the office is open.
