Saint Barnabas is the newest parish in the

Archdiocese to begin participation in CATHOLIC RELIEF SERVICE’S(CRS) GLOBAL

SOLIDARITY AMBASSADOR PROGRAM.

The goal of this program is to greater understand our parish’s role as a Catholic community to live in spiritual soli-darity with our brothers and sisters within our parish, our community, and with those around the world, especially the poor and marginalized. The three main aspects of the Global Solidarity Ambassa-dor program are participation in the CRS Rice Bowl Lenten Faith-In-Action program, Global Emergency Response to natural and man-made disasters, and monthly education and prayer resources regarding concrete opportunities to develop a more just and believing society.

Continue to watch the bulletin, Facebook, and webpage

for these resources, as well as for updates on additional

prayer opportunities throughout the year.

If you would like more information, or wish to become more involved with the Global Solidarity Ambassador program

at St. Barnabas, contact Mary Lievertz [email protected] or Laura Sheehan ([email protected]).

What is aWORLDWIDE MARRIAGE ENCOUNTER WEEKEND?

It is a positive, renewing experience for couples that have a good marriage, but want to make it even better! This is a time for you and your spouse to spend time together and learn about the tools to nourish your Sacrament in a new way. The next Marriage Encounter Weekend will be on 1820 August, at Mount St Francis Center for Spirituality in New Alba-ny, IN (near the Louisville area). Visitwww.wwme.orgfor further information.

Quote from a couple who made a Marriage Encounter Week-end: “Not only did we experience a deep sense of unity and joy during the Weekend, but the intimacy and excitement continued after.”

Tijuana Mission Team

In July, St. Barnabas again sent a mission team to

work with Fr. John Tasto in Tijuana, Mexico. Through

the Outreach Ministry we support the team with funding for

supplies for the work they do there repairing & maintaining

the school building.

Fr. John sent Msgr. and the parish family a letter of thanks. He shared that they had 41 seniors graduate from their high school this year and that 30 junior high students would be entering the high school this fall. Also they would receive 50 new students from the public schools. Many of the public school students do not have the skills needed in high school and will be attend 6 weeks of summer school to hopefully be ready for this fall.Fr. Also shared that he celebrated the 50th anniversary of his ordination in May. In addition to the priests and sisters and parishioners at the cele-bration there were 30 Small Church Communities there as well. Each Small Church Community had its own flag or banner. That is what is so special about the Catholic Church, its universality. They have Small Church Communities in Tijuana just as we do here at St. Bar-nabas! Maybe we need to follow their lead and have each SCC create a flag or banner for the DCC dinner later this fall!

The “CHANGING LIVES FOREVER” pro-

gram helps participants lift themselves out of poverty. The

materials used educate clients on the rules of work and other

skills needed to become economically selfsufficient.St. Bar-

nabas is partnering with St. Anthony parish to offer this pro-

gram at St. Anthony with facilitators from St. Barnabas. Many

of the class participants are folks who come to the St. Antony

& Holy Trinity food pantry

The class started on July 11th. Two weeks after the start of class the volunteers

working at the pantry had a firsthand opportunity to learn about how the class is

going. Three volunteers worked that day and when a gentleman from the class

came in to the pantry, he shared his excitement about the class with each one of

them individually. His conversation went something like this;

”It sure is hot out there today. I just came from a Changing Lives meeting where

the airconditioning kept things nice and cool. They even provided us food and

drinks. They are going to help me get things going backin the right direction.”

The volunteers shared that he was truly “on fire” with his enthusiasm for the pro-

gram We will all keep him in our prayers that this helps him make the changes

that he needs to move in a new direction.

The volunteers at the pantry see the food that we provide as an avenue to show

Christ’s love and care for the people we serve. It has allows us to open a door

through the “Changing Lives” program that we hope will help some of our guests

get their lives on a new track and moving forward. PLEASE help us to keep the

pantry stocked. We are in need of SPAGHETTI & PASTA SAUCE, CEREAL,

CANNED FRUIT, MAC & CHEESE, DEODORANT & SHAMPOO.

FOR THE WEEK OF AUGUST 13, 2017

QUESTION FOR CHILDREN: What does God’s voice sound like when you pray and listen to Jesus?

QUESTION FOR YOUTH: In today’s Gospel, Peter began to walk on the water when he was focused on Jesus. He began to sink when he got distracted by the storm. What is your life like when you are focused on Jesus and your relationship with God? How is it different when you get caught up in other things?

QUESTION FOR ADULTS: Tell about your experiences of hear-ing God speak in “tiny voices” rather than in the winds and earth-quakes of life.
