3. Contracting COVID-19 from being in the school environment by contact with an infected person

(Parents/carers/staff/ students

are not fully informed

of the health and safety requirements for the reopening of the school)

Students, staff, visitors, and the general public becoming infected with COVID-19:

1. Staff, students or visitors who have tested positive for COVID-19 are not allowed into the school premises until they have self-isolated for the recommended government period of 10 days; After 10 days, if the individual still have a temperature, or feeling unwell, that person should continue to self-isolate and seek medical advice.

2. Staff, students of visitors living in the same household (including someone in their support bubble or childcare bubble if they have one) as a person who have tested positive for COVID-19 are not allowed into the school premises until they have self-isolated for the government period of 10 days.

3. Staff, students, and visitors exhibiting classing signs of COVID-19 as detailed (high temperature, a new continuous cough and a loss of, or change to, sense of smell or taste) they must self-isolate for at least 10 days from when the symptoms started. They should arrange to have a test to see if they have COVID-19 – go to testing to arrange.

4. Any person arriving at school exhibiting symptoms will be required to return home.

5. Procedure to isolate students that appear symptomatic on site until collected is in place, further in the document.

6. If an individual has symptoms, undertakes a PCR COVID-19 test. If this is negative, on evidence of the negative test they will be able to return to school.

7. If an individual develops symptoms, that person may wish to alert the people that have had close contact with him/her over the last 48 hours to let them know that the person might have coronavirus (COVID-19), but is waiting for a test result. At this stage, those people should not self-isolate. Alerting those that the person has been in contact with means they can take extra care in practising social distancing and good hand and respiratory hygiene. They can also be more alert to any symptoms they might develop.

8. Always up to date Government guidance is found on the link below.‘stay at home: guidance for households with possible or confirmed coronavirus (COVID-19) infection

Re-send clear guidance to all staff and parents/carers of students The school will Engage with the NHS Test and Trace process - See in Appendix 1.

11. Possible contamination within classroom/teaching and learning spaces

Students, staff, visitors, and the general public becoming infected with COVID-19:

1. Classrooms with external door direct to the outside to be used where possible.

2. Classrooms and learning space back to normal occupancy, social distancing (SFAIRP).

3. It is Strongly Advised that all students ( apart from those with exemptions) should wear face masks in the classrooms.

4. School must instruct pupils to: • not touch the front of their face covering during use or when removing it • dispose of temporary face coverings in a ‘black bag’ waste bin (not recycling bin) • place reusable face coverings in a plastic bag they can take home with them • wash their hands again before heading to their classroom - Staff and students were shown how to put on a face

12. Peer-assessment within bubbles where possible, but where teacher assessment is necessary in line with the Curriculum, Teaching and Assessment Policy, staff must wash their hands with soap well / or use hand sanitiser before and after handling books or papers from pupils. No touching face during handling papers and clean any pen/pencil which staff used for marking after handling.

13. Prioritise electronic completion of homework /assessment tasks where possible, but marking and feedback in line with the Curriculum, Teaching and Assessment Policy.

14. Borrowing of personal equipment is NOT allowed. Staff will have limited supply of stationary. Logging of pupils without equipment. Tutors to check each morning that pupils have equipment for learning for the day and due interventions in place.

15. Use of communal equipment will be avoided where possible, any shared equipment used will be cleanable and disinfected prior and after use.

16. Resources available will be limited to what is essential for use of a daily basis and planned in advance.

17. Computer keyboard/mouse, touch screens/interactive whiteboards only to be used by a lead teacher/staff member in a classroom and wiped before and after use.

18. Computers in the IT classrooms used by the same students .

19. Keeping occupied spaces well ventilated 20. Important to ensure the teaching space is well ventilated

and a comfortable teaching environment is maintained. This can be achieved by a variety of measures including: - mechanical ventilation systems – these should be

adjusted to increase the ventilation rate wherever possible, and checked to confirm that normal operation meets current guidance (if possible, systems should be adjusted to full fresh air or, if not, then systems should be operated as normal as long as they are within a single room and supplemented by an outdoor air supply)

- natural ventilation – opening windows (in cooler weather windows should be opened just enough to provide constant background ventilation, and opened more fully during breaks to purge the air in the space). Opening internal doors can also assist with creating a throughput of air

- natural ventilation – if necessary external opening doors may also be used (as long as they are not fire doors and where safe to do so)

Further advice on this can be found in Health and Safety Executive guidance on air conditioning and ventilation during the coronavirus outbreak and CIBSE coronavirus (COVID-19) advice.

To balance the need for increased ventilation while maintaining a comfortable temperature, the following measures should also be used as appropriate:

opening high level windows in preference to low level to reduce draughts 21. Increasing the ventilation while spaces are unoccupied (e.g.

between classes, during break and lunch, when a room is unused)

22. providing flexibility to allow additional, suitable indoor clothing. For more information see School uniform

23. rearranging furniture where possible to avoid direct drafts 24. Heating should be used as necessary to ensure comfort

levels are maintained particularly in occupied spaces. 25. Light switches, windows, and blinds only to be operated by

lead teacher/staff member in the classroom. Using disinfectant wipe.

28. SEND Scholastica – Separate arrangements will apply for these students and staff in the area. 29. Music – teaching music should be continued as part of the school curriculum, especially as this builds pupils’ confidence and supports their wellbeing. There is additional risk of infection in environments where singing, chanting, playing wind or brass instruments takes place –

a.) reduce the number of contacts amongst pupils, and between pupils and staff, including for rehearsal and performance. As set out in the system of controls .

b.) keep social distancing among students as much as possible and 2 metres from adults

c.) keep any background or accompanying music to levels which do not encourage teachers or other performers to raise their voices unduly. If possible, use microphones to reduce the need for shouting. d.) not host any performances with an audience e.) Singing and playing instruments takes place only in

larger well-ventilated spaces, or outdoors. f.) Schools can continue to engage peripatetic teachers

Appendix 2.

END OF SCHOOL DAY PROCEDURES – March 2021

Once a pupil has left the school site, they may not re-enter. Students will no longer be able to go to the shops and then return for the bus/or for collection. This is due to

both health & safety guidance as well as Covid 19 restrictions. (It will therefore remain in place for the whole of the academic year and is not subject to any new guidance

related to Covid 19). Parents of any student who contravenes this arrangement will be contacted and the student will be placed in detention.

Students who walk from or are collected from school:

• Exit via the main entrance and leave the school site immediately.

• Staff will be on duty to supervise the safe exit of students. Students who are walking home or being collected will leave on the first bell at 3.30pm to ensure they move

sensibly and swiftly through the main entrance and then clear the school site. They will wear face coverings as the leave they classrooms and walk through the

corridors.

• Students must use the crossing and they have a responsibility to do so. Parents will be informed if student showing signs of unsafe or irresponsible behaviors which

place themselves or others in danger.

OCTOBER VERSION 06TH NOVEMBER VERSION 12TH NOVEMBER VERSION 6TH JANUARY 21 VERSION 29TH JANUARY 21,

• There should be limited waiting time wherever possible to avoid ‘gatherings’ or groups of pupils waiting to be collected. Parents will be informed of the necessity for a

prompt departure. Clearly the school understands that circumstances can sometimes dictate and delays occur.

• If a student has to wait to be collected they should remain in a pre-arranged safe place, off site. No student will be allowed to remain on the school site.

• No parents will be allowed on site to collect students at the end of the day – this includes the car park. This is related to health and safety guidance – we should not

have ‘public’ access whilst we have school buses on site as this increases the risk of accidents/injury to the whole school community. This arrangement will remain

through the whole of the academic year. Arrangements for pick up points to be made between parent and student.

• Only those students with pre-arranged taxi collections will be allowed to leave from the school car park.

Students who travel from school by bus.

• All students in Years 7 - 11 who leave school by bus (whether public or school) will make their way onto the playground at the end of the day. They must wear face

coverings as the leave they classrooms and walk through the corridors.

• If wet – students will gather in the Sports Hall and Main Hall based on which bus route home is taken. (Separate details will be given to students as and when

appropriate).

• As soon as students exit the school building to make their way to the designated areas, they MUST wear a face mask. This in preparation for travel by bus, but also as

the cohorts are now mixed.

• Information about the arrival of buses will be communicated between staff by walkie talkie and a loud hailer used to inform students which buses have arrived. When

instructed to do so, students will leave through the technology block and make their way sensibly to the bus queue area. It is the responsibility of students to be aware

of which buses have been called for and ensure they are ready to leave.

• Students always have a responsibility to make their way safely to the buses. This includes:

o Respecting social distancing guidance.

o Stay on designated walk ways and not stray onto the car park

o Queue sensibly and wait patiently to get onto the bus in the designated area

• Staff will be on duty to ensure the safety and well being of students. Parents will be informed of any student showing signs of unsafe or irresponsible behaviours which

place themselves or others in danger. A lunchtime detention will be given if staff feel this is the case.

• Neither staff or bus drivers will tolerate verbal or physical abuse, disruptive or inappropriate behaviours towards themselves or passengers. Students have a

responsibility to know which bus they can use and have their bus passes/tickets/money ready. Bus companies can and will reserve the right to refuse a student the

opportunity to travel if their behaviour is unacceptable. As a school we liaise with all bus companies to ensure safe passage not only for our own students but all

passengers whether they be students from other schools or members of the public. The school will act in line with and apply the schools behaviour policy should an

incident occur.

On the rare occasion a student misses their bus they should inform a member of staff on duty and then go to reception to make alternative arrangements for collection or

travel home.
