This week we have continued to look at the
Persistence key as part of our You Can Do It!
program. In class, discussion has been centred
around:
knowing that success is achieved by
internal factors, such as ability and effort
and not external factors, such as luck or
taking on something that is easy
goal setting and highlighting what is
needed to achieve the goals
knowing that to be successful at
something, you will sometimes have to
do things that are not easy or fun
We would like to thank all of the businesses and families below for their contribu-
tions to our School Fete Raffle. We have been overwhelmed by the generosity of our
school and wider community. Raffle tickets will be sent out over the next few weeks.

GEOGRAPHY
This term, all classes Inquiry units are based on Geography. Hand in hand with learning about our earth
and it’s resources is learning how to protect and conserve them. This coming Saturday, August 25th,
there will be a good opportunity for our students to put their learning into action.
Join Sea Shepherd Australia’s Marine Debris Campaign to protect and conserve our marine environ-
ment, preventing and removing the unprecedented amount of marine debris entering our oceans and
waterways.
After a successful event in early May this year, the Victorian Marine Debris Team has set up it's very
own Lakes Entrance Team. Sea Shepherd will be holding another clean-up event at Eastern Beach, from
1pm to 3pm, on Saturday August 25th.
This is a free family friendly event and everyone is welcome!
What to bring:
- We recommend closed toe shoes, sunscreen and a hat
- Water in a reusable bottle, gloves (we will have some that can be borrowed)
- If you have tongs or grabbers they can be helpful
- We have bags available for collecting litter, though feel free to bring your own
Please note, this is a 'single use plastic free' event (Sea Shepherd Facebook page)
Can you make a difference?
Sport this year has been very busy at school and out of school. In class we have recently
been practising our netball and basketball skills. Great improvement has been seen in the
students ability to catch and pass at pace. Also in Term 2 we had another visit from
athletics coach Denis Huffer, his session were thoroughly enjoyed.
We have had our school athletics, cross country and swimming carnival, these were all a
great success with student really enjoying them. A big thanks to all those parents who
helped and supported these day.
Our district athletics is also being held on Friday, the 24th of August, we have been
practising for this event and are excited to compete.
We have had many students representing our school at netball, soccer, AFL, golf, tennis
and basketball. Recently we have had many students represent us at the Regional Cross
Country Championships, with Jake Perrett, Keira Gibbs, Caleb O’Donnell and Harley
Young representing us at the State Cross Country Championships in Melbourne. Jake will
be going on to compete at the national level for cross country in late August. We also
have Brianna Thewma representing us at the state level in Term 4 for golf.
Last week, was Science
Week, so on Wednesday
the 15th of August, the
year 5 and 6 students
went to the Lakes
Entrance Secondary
College to participate in
some interesting science
experiments. We went
off into four different
groups, the experiments
we conducted were
swimming sultanas, tin
can phone, making
sherbet and blowing up
balloons using a water
bottle vinegar and
bicarbonate of soda. We
had a lot of fun learning
the effects of when you
put certain chemicals
together.
