On Thursday, February 22nd, we had our 3rd annual "Ski Trip" to Mt St Louis Moonstone. The day was a huge success. Although, it was cloudy in the morning and the visibility was challenging, all of the students took to the slopes with great enthusiasm. By the afternoon, the sun came out and visibility and ability improved. The students were everywhere on the slopes - skiing on beginner, intermediate and advanced hills. Huge smiles and laughter was all you could see and hear throughout the day. It was truly amazing to see the progress of skiing ability in the older students who have participated in the ski trip over the last 3 years. It was also rewarding to see our younger students progress in their skiing ability throughout the day. The management from Mt St Louis were impressed with our behaviour. Mme Verelst and I would like to thank all of the students for representing St Cecilia in a positive light. Thank you to the teacher and parent volunteers for their help and support on the slopes and in the chalet. Thank you as well to the teachers who stayed behind at St Cecilia and took in "guest" students for the day. Thank you to Mrs Vani and Mrs Grossi for your continued support to make this trip happen!!!

On Friday February 23rd, 2018, 11 of St Cecilia's classes visited Cineplex Queensway Theatre, to watch the

movie Peter Rabbit. Students, parents and teachers alike enjoyed the movie, alongside their popcorn and

drink. The entire theatre was reserved for our school, as we enjoyed watching Peter Rabbit, Flopsy, Mopsy

and Cottontail enjoy their time in Mr McGregor's vegetable garden. The thrills and excitement were a joy for

all to watch. We thank all the teachers, administrators, clerical staff, parents and students who made this

event possible and enjoyable.

SAFE AND CARING CATHOLIC SCHOOL CLIMATE SURVEY Elementary Students

March 2018

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s):

Providing our students with opportunities to learn and develop in a safe and caring environment is a shared

responsibility. A positive school climate exists when all members of the school community feel safe, comfort-

able, and accepted. In order to promote a positive school climate, student safety issues are addressed by a Safe

School Team through the cooperative efforts of the school, parents, students and community partners. The

Safe School Team in every school helps respond to some of the challenges faced in addressing complex stu-

dent safety issues.

In an ongoing effort to keep our Catholic schools safe and caring places in which to learn, the Toronto Catho-

lic District School Board is collecting information from students about their feelings of safety and the general

school climate. The Safe and Caring Catholic School Climate Survey for elementary students is administered

on-line to all Grade 6 and Grade 8 students.

The results of the survey will allow our Safe Schools Team to assess students’ perceptions about the safety and

climate of our Catholic school, and will focus our efforts to address any identified needs. All of the infor-

mation gathered will be anonymous and confidential, and only group-level results will be used to inform plan-

ning.

Thank you for your support of this important initiative for the well-being of our students. Please feel free to

contact me if you have any questions or concerns, or if you require further information.

In partnership for a safe and caring Catholic school,

L. Vani, Ph., D. Principal

PUBLIC CONSULTATION FOR 2018-2019 TCDSB BUDGET

The Board’s annual budget consultation process will begin at the end of March 2018. The public consultation is an important plan-ning tool to ensure the development of an effective and balanced budget that supports the academic achievement of our students.

Under the Education Act (Section 232), the Board is required to prepare and submit a budget to the Ministry of Education outlining estimates of its revenues and expenses for the upcoming 2018-2019 academic year by end of June 2018. Stay tuned for more details and information on our school and Board website.

Let’s Help Catholic Charities by Supporting ShareLife
