VOCATION VIEWS: CORPUS CHRISTIPay attention to the nourishment you receive from the Bread of Life. Share it with another. (Deuteronomy 8:2-3, 14-16)

PASTOR’S CORNER Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Jesus (Corpus Christi). Just as we focused on the reality of God’s coming to us as Father, Son and Holy Spirit last weekend, this weekend we focus on the Son sharing Himself with His Body and Blood. This is our understanding of the Sacrament of the Eucharist, and the celebration of this Sacrament is now known as the Mass.

In our Catholic teaching, the Eucharist is the Source and Summit of our Christian Faith and Life. Given our experience of the past weeks and months, perhaps we can better appreciate what is meant by Source and Summit. There is a core truth to the notion that “Absence makes the heart grow fonder.”

How is it possible that the Mass can possibly be seen as the Source and Summit of our Christian life? Albeit a feeble one, I would like to make an attempt to share some sort of a frame of reference.

I cannot begin to count the number of times over the weeks during which there were no public Masses that people mentioned how much it meant seeing one another, whether it be here at church or anywhere. I will never forget the procession on the Sunday when so many drove past Fr. Patrick and me. I could not hold back the tears. In addition, just this last weekend, someone told me that I did not have the same energy as I normally do at the video Masses. There is a unique and graced spirit and energy when the community is present for the Celebration of the Mass vs. when there is no congregation. Christ is truly present in the Assembly. The chanting of Hymns and recitation and responses of Prayers makes a difference.

The Proclamation of the Word, especially the Gospel, allows us to be in touch not only with the experience of Jesus’ life and ministry, but also in touch with realities and challenges of our lives and how similar they are to those of the Word made Flesh. We are strengthened by being reminded how Jesus dealt with the struggles, joys and sorrows of human life.

We once again profess our faith, share our needs and the needs of others and then move on to what Jesus asked, invited and challenged us to do; take bread and wine, bless, break and share them. This is the way that Jesus chose to make His Presence seen, touched, received and shared throughout all ages. One is truly present in their memory, and there is a reality that is truly mysterious and real in the transubstantiation of Bread and Wine that becomes the Body and Blood of Christ. In the Reception of Holy Communion there is a oneness between our own person, the other persons present, and Jesus Christ. We then are dismissed to go forth to live that experience of oneness and share it with others. It is the foreshadowing oftheexistencethatwill lastforeverwiththeRisenandGlorifiedChrist. In these past weeks, we have in a very tangible way realized how quickly material things can disappear. We have seen how much the reality of human living lacks so much in terms of our relationships with one another; known and unknown. This is why we are invited back each Sabbath to celebrate the Eucharist; to experience the Ministry of Presence with one another and for Christ to share His Presence with us!

God’s blessings!Fr. Leo Connolly

READINGS FOR JUNE 21TWELFTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Reading I – Jeremiah 20:10-13 Reading II – Romans 5:12-15 Gospel – Matthew 10:26-33

LIFE FOCUS QUESTIONS• Inthefirstreading,theprophetJeremiahsaystoGod,“ToyouI

have entrusted my cause.” Which cause(s) is near to your heart at this moment in time? How might you entrust it to God’s care?

• In today’s psalm we hear, “For your sake I bear insult, and shame covers my face.” Has there been a time in your life where you experienced insult or shame because of your faith? What helped you get through this time?

• Jesus tells His disciples, “Fear no one,” and twice He urges them, “Do not be afraid.” How might you embrace this fearlessness in your life?

• Jesus says to the twelve, “Even all the hairs on your head are counted.” How have you experienced this abundant love of God in your life?

NATIONAL eGIVING DAYNational eGiving Day is June 20th, and we need your help! As businesses and churches reopen, we are beginning the summer season. It is during these months that we depend the most on online giving to continue our ministry. We prayerfully invite you to use eGiving from your computer, smartphone or tablet to set up a recurring donation or to make a one-time gift.eGivingbenefitsyouandourchurchinmanyways, including:• Consistency: Your support will allow us to continue our important

ministries and continue to help our community.• Convenience: Support the parish from the comfort and safety of your

home with a smartphone or computer.• Cost-effective: Reduces our printing and mailing costs, so we can use

that saved money to further our ministries in the community. Plus, it’s better for the environment to use less paper!

As we adapt to this “new normal,” much of our communication in the parish is being accomplished electronically. As situations change daily during this pandemic, the best way for you to stay in contact with the parish is through our various means of electronic communications. Please note, if you are receiving emails with the links to the various Bishop Barron/Word on Fire videos and documents through the Flocknote email system, this is not the same email distribution that Fr. Connolly uses to communicate to the parish. If you are not already receiving emails from Fr. Connolly through the MailChimp email system, please send a message to Katie Wohrle at [email protected] to be added to that distribution list. You can also stay up to date with the parish by following us on our other social media platforms:• Parish Website: www.saintceciliachurch.org/• Parish Facebook Page: www.facebook.com/saintceciliachurch/• Parish YouTube Channel: www.youtube.com/channel/UCtW6f7AIn3

BINGO UPDATEDue to COVID-19 restrictions, our Bingo program is still on hiatus. We are waiting to get clarity from the state of Ohio as to what restrictions will need to be in place if we are able to start Bingo back up. If you volunteer to help run our Bingo program, please watch your email and the bulletin for updates on how and when we might plan to reopen the program with safety measures in place.

CONFESSIONSOn Saturday, May 30, we resumed the normal Confessions schedule. Confessions will be heard on Saturdays from 4:00 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. No appointments are needed for Saturday Confessions. However, until indicated otherwise by Bishop Brennan, the format for Confessions will continue the same as it has been for the past few weeks. The Saint Cecilia Room will serve as site for Confessions; not the Confessional because of its small size. People should wait in the Gathering Space and maintain Social Distancing. Confessions should be no longer than 5 minutes and the usual posture will be to stand unless not possible for the Penitent to do so. There will be an option to go face to face or anonymously but social distancing is to be maintained and masks are to be worn. Penitents may go to the church or to their vehicles to do their Penance. Thank you for your understanding and patience in this matter.

As you may be aware, each Diocesan Bishop is obligated to celebrate a Mass or make sure a Mass is celebrated each Sunday and Holyday of Obligation for the Intentions of the People of the Diocese, and each Pastor is to do the same for the People of the Parish. During the time that public Masses were suspended, the People of the Parish was Father Connolly's Mass Intention when celebrating or concelebrating the videoed Masses. Any intentions that were scheduled for both the Weekend Masses and Weekday Masses during the days of the suspension are in the process of being rescheduled. Please feelfreetocontacttheParishOfficetoscheduleMassIntentions.
