The message of the new relationship with God is expressed in Jesus’ announcement of the establishment of the Kingdom of God. This was at the heart of His preaching message. The foundation of the kingdom was accomplished through His words, His miracles, and the gathering of disciples and especially the twelve apostles, to continue His work after His death. The pivotal cause of the establishment of the Kingdom of God was Jesus’ sacrificial death and resurrection which opened the floodgates of grace, beginning with our adoption as God’s children. MISSION STATEMENT: As part of the living Body of Christ, Saint Cecilia parish on Bainbridge Island seeks to conform to the will of God through faith, works, teaching and stewardship of God’s creation as guided by the Holy Spirit, by the teachings of Christ, and the Grace of the Father. We celebrate this mission daily in prayer, liturgy, sacraments and life.

Dear Parishioners, This week, I address the central item on my brief outline of the Catholic Faith, and the center of our Faith, the person of Jesus Christ. We believe that God took on human flesh and came into the world as Jesus Christ, the Only Son of God. He is a divine person with both a human and a divine nature. God came into the world to redeem humanity from sin and restore the relationship that had been lost in original sin. Jesus Christ is the fullness of God’s revelation. Jesus’ words and works make the clearest and most concrete statement of who God is and how He wants us to live in relationship with Him. Jesus’ revelation of His divine personhood was gradual, and as He spoke most clearly about His Oneness and equivalence with the Father, He also spoke of the Holy Spirit, equally one with Him and the Father. In this revelation, God moved beyond the revelation of the One God, who is the personal, loving Creator. The God we believe in is a Holy Trinity. God is one Being with three persons. God is absolutely One and yet, in the three persons He lives in relationship even within His Being. Belief in the Trinitarian God is what distinguishes Christians from Jews and Muslims. The Gospels collectively, give little description of Jesus’ birth and recall only one incident from His childhood. The bulk of the Gospel describe the words and works of Jesus in the three years of His public ministry.

Saint Francis of Assisi died just after sunset on October 3, 1226. This event is solemnly recalled each year by Franciscans to honor their Holy Father's entrance into joy. This special liturgy is called “Transitus”. We invite you to pray with us Tuesday, October 13th at Our

Lady Star of the Sea, Bremerton. We will gather at 5pm for a potluck dinner (in the parish center), come before the Blessed Sacrament for the liturgy, and then offer a “come and see” dessert for those who may wish to learn more about the Secular Franciscans. For more information, please call Julie 360-649-1964 . Bishop Barron to speak at Cornerstone Catholic Conference: Keynote presenter Bishop Robert Barron is the founder of the WORD ON FIRE Catholic Ministries and host of the popular Catholicism video series. Bishop Barron will talk about his belief that for the Church to succeed at evangelization, the faithful’s embrace of the Church’s social teaching as an essential part of discipleship must be deepened. Don’t miss the 2017 Cornerstone Catholic Conference at the Greater Tacoma Convention Center, October 20-21. To register or for more information: www.cornerstonecatholic.org or phone: 206-301-0556 ($75 per person; $65 for young adults; scholarships available).

Preparation for Consecration: Please join us on Saturday, October 7 at 1:00 p.m. in the Parish Center of Our Lady Star of the Sea Parish, Bremerton, WA. We will pray the Rosary, learn how to make a “devil’s whip”, hear the teachings of St. Max on total

consecration and the Miraculous medal-which St. Max called a “silver bullet” of prayer, and be with Jesus in Eucharist Adoration, listening to Him about becoming an “instrument”. Our time together will end at 4:00 p.m. with the opportunity to consecrate ourselves to Jesus through Mary. Please RSVP, or questions; Julie 360-649-1964.

PRINCIPAL’S CORNER

A daily ritual at SCCS, which has been a tradition throughout our sixteen-year history, is most likely one that few people know about. At 8:20 a.m. every morning, all teachers gather around the circle table in the office for prayers, intentions and a quick discussion about our day ahead. We each lead our morning prayer gathering for one month. The leader reads a passage, then opens the floor for intentions. We conclude by reciting either the Hail Mary or the Our Father. Starting our day together provides us the chance to pause before our students arrive. We have the opportunity to reflect on God’s presence in our lives and in our work. Our morning ritual gives us time and space to support one another and to recommit to developing the mind, body and spirit of our students. Teaching is sacred work; our prayer together, each morning, reminds of that.

With joy, Susan Kilbane
