Sometimes we may feel that our efforts to help won't make a difference. But they do. Together we can make a difference! By combining your donations with our physical efforts to bag and distribute your donations, we can reach many deserving people in need. Together we are making a difference, one family at a time. We appreciate all that you do to help us serve those in need. Thank you!

Laetare Sunday is the 4th Sunday of Lent, and the name Laetare Sunday is taken from the words of the

introit, laetare Jerusalem, “rejoice with Jerusalem."

Laetare means “Rejoice” in Latin. The 40 days of Lent are a time for solemnity according to Roman Catho-

lic doctrine, so how is it possible to celebrate during a time for meditative reflection? Quite simply, the

church recognized that people need a break from sorrow.

Like Gaudete Sunday midway through advent, Laetare reminds us of the event we look forward to at the

end of penitential season and the joy in anticipation of the Resurrection.

The vestments for this day will be rose (not pink), as they are on Gaudete Sunday in Advent.

Symbols of Lent. Besides being a primary symbol of Christianity, the cross is a central object in our liturgy.

During Lent the cross leads the procession of psalms on Palm Sunday, is the focus of Stations of the Cross

devotions and is venerated on Good Friday. Purple or violet is the prescribed liturgical color for Lent.

Laetare Sunday marks the half-way point through the season of Lent. It is celebrated 21 days before

Easter Sunday. Essentially, this is a day of encouragement for those of us doing penance and making our

Lenten sacrifices. On this day we are encouraged and reminded that through our sacrifice we will soon

taste great joy.
