Next week’s readings: May 14, 2017

First Reading:

Acts 6: 1-7 Second Reading:

1 Peter 2: 4-9 Gospel:

John 14: 1-12

Today’s readings: May 7, 2017

First Reading: Acts 2: 14a, 36-41 Second Reading: 1 Peter 2: 20b-25 Gospel: John 10: 1-10

A message from Fr. Mark: As pastor there are several advisory bodies I rely on to help me in my ministry, top among them is our Pastoral Council. The Pastoral Council is unique. Unlike most other ministries, the Pastoral Council does not sponsor events or par cular programs, have training sessions, or provide any kind of regular hands-on ministry in the parish. How-ever, the Council is perhaps one of the most important ministries in the parish. The twelve members who make up the Council act as a type of think-tank for the parish; helping to set vision and direc on as well as evalua ng what is currently happening in our community. The Pastoral Council meets once a month, September through June (ten

mes a year) – usually on the last Tuesday evening of the month from 6:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

I bring this to your a en on because two of our Pastoral Council Members, Karim Massoud and Tim Gomes, have reached the end of their terms and will be leaving the Council next month. I am very grateful to them, and all the members of the Council, for their wisdom, honesty and crea vity in helping our parish become the place it is.

With their departure, there are two posi ons on the Pastoral Council available. As of today, the Council is accep ng Self-nomina ons to join the Council. If being a member of the Pastoral Council is something you might be interest-ed in, I invite you to self-nominate.

Self-nomina on forms are available in the ves bule of the church. All self-nomina ons must be returned by Sun-day, May 21, 2017. Then, on Wednesday, May 23, 2017 from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. the current Council will hold a Discernment Evening for all those who have self-nominated. During this evening all self-nominees will have the op-portunity to meet with current Pastoral Council members, ask ques ons, and learn more about what the Council does and how it operates. At the end of the Discernment Evening, self-nominees may decide the Pastoral Council is not a good fit for them, or they may decide they s ll wish to be considered as a new member for the Council.

The Council will meet the following week to make a final decision. By Pentecost (June 4, 2017) two of the self-nominees will be invited to join the Pastoral Council as new members, each with three year terms.

Just to recap: Important dates in the selec on of two new Pastoral Council members:

May 6/7, 2017 – Self-nomina on forms are available in the ves bule of the church May 21, 2017 – All S

elf-nomina on forms due back May 23, 2017 – Discernment evening from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. in Borromeo Hall June 4, 2017 – New members are invited by this date to join the Pastoral Council.

If you have any ques ons about this process, or the Pastoral Council, please feel free to ask me or contact the PC chairman, Geoff Rodgers at [email protected]. In the mean me, I ask you to prayerfully consider

Pa y Wiesner, Dino Ciarlo, Mike Feit, Rose & Bob Lyons, Jeff Perry, Norm Klino, Bob & Claude e Klein, Diane Bozzini, Vaughn Brugman, Bob Shobar, Richard Flores, Bill Adams, Barbara Halco, Don & Alice Lynch, Lee Colvin, Colleen & Doug Fernandez, Tom Ramos, Beverly Bull, Joe Troiano, Molly Fish-er, Yvonne Crawford, Joe Lennon, Joseph Andre, Veronica Bens, Ray Devany, Lindsay Freeman, Deacon Dave Cloyne, Rose Marie Litz, Eileen Hannigan, Patricia Po s, Larain Di-Mercurio, Jerry Hanlon, Manny Dooli le, Rose Daley, Mari-anne Lang, Bob Lee, Fr. • Church Humor ...God the Creator… A li le girl was si ng on her grandfather’s lap as he read her a bed me story. From me to me, she would take her eyes off the book and reach up to touch his wrinkled cheek. She was alternately stroking her own cheek, then his again. Finally she spoke up, “Grandpa, did God make you?” “Yes, sweetheart”, he answered, “God made me a long me ago.” “Oh,” she paused, “Grandpa, did God make me, too?” “Yes, indeed, honey,” he said, “God made you just a li le while ago.” Feeling their respec ve faces again, she observed, “God’s ge ng be er at it, isn’t he?!”

Catholic Chari es of the East Bay helps families in need rise above poverty and live self-sufficient lives.
