Today’s Readings First Reading — I pleaded, and the spirit of wisdom came to me. (Wisdom 7:7-11). Psalm — Fill us with your love, O Lord, and we will sing for joy! (Psalm 90). Second Reading — Indeed the word of God is living and effective (Hebrews 4:12-13). Gospel — It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of God (Mark 10:17-30 [17-27]).

Friends & Fellowship The next free meal will be Sunday, October 14th, from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. The Legion of Mary Group will prepare the meal. This meal is for anyone in our area who needs a free meal or just some company and fellowship. Thanks to our parish groups and Newark organizations who help us in this good cause, including the committee members.

Upcoming Events and Important Information

Hospitality Sunday Hospitality Sunday is October 28 after the 7:15 & 9:00 a.m. Masses. Come for free donuts and coffee in the parish hall. This is an opportunity to meet fellow parishioners. Please take the time to introduce yourself and your family to a parishioner or family that you do not know. The goal of Hospitality Sunday is to enjoy coffee and donuts with friends and also become familiar with other parishioners. We appreciate the Hospitality Committee who set up the event and the Men’s Club who pay for the donuts.

Come and See Abba Father Charismatic Prayer Group meets every Friday night at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel. Please feel free to drop in and join them. Thank you.

Voice Collection This weekend October 13 & 14 is the annual second collection for The Catholic Voice. Your donation helps our parish offset its payments for this important communication ministry. The Voice and its other operations - El Heraldo Católico, websites and social media - are the only regular source of Catholic news and information for to all parishioners in the diocese. Please be generous in your support. Checks should be made payable to St. Edward Church. If you did not bring your donation this week, please bring it any time this month.

Safe Environment If you belong to one of the following Ministries or you are a volunteer that works with children: ABBA Father, Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors, Men’s club, Outreach, Sacristans, SPRED, St. Vincent De Paul, and Ush-ers and have not completed your training for the New Cycle July 2018– June 2021, please do so before Oct. 30, 2018 . Men’s Club Our next meeting will be Wednesday November 7th, 2018 at the Doolan Center at St. Edward School at 7:30 PM. The Doolan Center is located at the very end of the school near Civic Center Drive. All Men of the Parish are welcome.
