Parish Outreach to SOME on October 14 St. Elizabeth has been delivering (and helping to serve) a

monthly meal on the 2nd Saturday of every month to So Others

Might Eat (SOME) for 39 years. October 14 will be our next

service day at SOME. This important parish outreach program

provides about 3,000 hot lunches annually to needy men, wom-

en, and children at the main SOME building on 71 “O” Street,

NW, in Washington, D.C. (You have served 2,464 people in

the first nine months of 2017.) Although our parishioners are

very generous in their support of the program, we need new

volunteers willing to donate food, particularly chicken. (This

can be done on an occasional or regular basis.) When possi-

ble, donors are asked to provide food for ten people consisting

of:

Cooked Chicken (either fresh, frozen, or boxed),

Green beans (cans), and

Fruit (bananas or oranges).

Food will be collected in St. Elizabeth’s parking lot (in front of

the school) between 8:30 - 9:30AM on Saturday, October

14. The staff and guests of SOME are very appreciative of the

food we provide and claim that our chicken-based menu is a

27th Sunday Ordinary Time

08 October 2017 4

Our Lady of Good Counsel Open House Our Lady of Good Counsel High School will be hosting an

Open House for all 6th, 7th and 8th grade students and their

families at our campus. Please join us for tours of our school,

including our Performing Arts Center, on Sunday, October 15

2017 from 10:00am to 1:00pm. Learn about our academic

programs, co-curricular activities and transportation options.

We will hold information sessions on the Ryken Program and

Financial Assistance. The school is located at 17301 Old Vic

Boulevard, Olney Maryland 20832. Entrance is on Route 108

across from the Olney Theatre.

Solemn Novena to St. Jude Thaddeus Every night, from October 20th-28th at 8pm, we will be

praying our solemn Novena to St. Jude. Our beloved patron,

St. Jude, is the saint of impossible causes. All of us have situ-

ations in our lives, at home or at work, which can seem to

have no possible solution. These very situations are the ones

we would encourage you to bring to St. Jude during our nove-

na. Make a commitment, come every night, and ask him to

beg the Lord Jesus to find a way to break into our lives and

bring His healing presence into impossible situations. He is

the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and He reminds us: “Ask

anything of the Father in My Name, and He will grant it to

you.” (Lk 11:9) The evening devotions consist of novena

prayers, reflections, confessions, Benediction of the Blessed

Sacrament, and veneration of the St. Jude relic. Msgr. Jack

Macfarlane will be leading the novena service for us this

year. Hope to see you there!

Fall into eGiving through Faith Direct, which is the most

convenient and secure way for you to make your weekly

offering to St. Elizabeth Catholic Church.

Your automatic contributions through Faith Direct will save

valuable time for both you and our parish staff.

Youth Group has begun and will continue to meet on Sunday evenings, from 7-9pm in the school cafeteria, following

the Life Teen Mass. Calendars are on the website under ‘Youth Ministry’
