Fr. Mike further writes: We now have a date when we will begin our Sunday masses. However it is good

to call attention that because of because of the ongoing nature of the pandemic the bishops have re-

affirmed that we are still not obliged to attend Sunday Mass during this period, so although many will

want to, others should not feel pressured to do so until the time is right.

The guidance from the government and our bishops is very stringent, there are sanitising precautions in

place when entering the church. Benches have been marked off where people can sit but in our church an

usher will show you to your seat. There is careful care in the cleaning of the church both before and after

Mass. Changes in the way that we celebrate Mass in order to minimise the amount of movement, and the

need to give our name and a contact telephone number in case our details are required for “Track and

Trace” purposes.

Many parishes across the Diocese will not be able to put sufficient safety procedures in place yet and so

won’t be celebrating Mass publicly for the time being.

As general principles I would like to suggest the following for you to consider:

Those who are over seventy years of age or are “shielding” because of their general health should

think carefully about the appropriateness of attending Mass.

When weekday masses begin perhaps you could think about coming to a weekday rather than Sun-

day Mass which may be quieter.

Join us for our Sunday Mass online which will continue to be available each Sunday morning.

Consider visiting the church for private prayer rather than attending Mass.

It is still very unclear how things will develop week by week so we will need to keep open minds and re-

view our arrangements as things progress. Thank you for your understanding.

With Blessings, Fr Mike

Parish Pastoral Council met on Wednesday evening.. Opening of churches for private prayer. We have had the church open now for over a week. Based on

that experience and the number of people who come and when, it was decided that as from Mon-

day 13th July the church will be open on the normal mass days – Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sat-

urday between 9.30 am and 10.30m. All the same criteria apply (face mask, one way system inside the

church, hand sanitiser.) An usher will always be present.

When public masses do restart due to the social distancing the numbers permitted in the church will be

very limited. So an extra 8.30am mass will be introduced. Mass will be much shorter to reduce the possi-

bility of infection. We need to be able to try and work out who is coming to what mass to try and avoid

having to turn people away.

WE CANNOT PERMIT THE CONGREGATION TO BE OVER THE MAXIMUM NUMBER PERMITTED.

People we are sure will be very understanding and we imagine the first few weekends will be slightly dis-

organised. It was agreed that various members of the parish council on behalf of Fr. Mike would try and

phone parishioners whose telephone numbers we know to try and discover what preference they have

for their mass time and how many people will possibly come.

Once mass has begun in the church on Sundays we will continue to film the mass for Live YouTube. In the

first few weekends please note the equipment may obstruct the alter a little but NO ONE IN THE

CONGEGATION WILL BE SEEN ON YOUTUBE. However, once we move the camera more to the side

there is a possibility those sitting on the choir area may be seen. Nearer the time we will advise on this.

We thank those who have been depositing or handing in their envelopes. Our people continue to be

very generous and that is important, as like everyone else, our bills have also gone up.

Many thanks. Fr Mike

Following the Scottish Bishops’ Conference we will be following their orientations and

what has been adapted by our Parish Council. We are sure people will be understanding

and flexible as we are all living in a new situation.

At all masses there will be ushers and people will be expected to follow their instructions

at all times.

At no time will we exceed the permitted number of people allowed

in the church even if this means turning people away.

People’s health and safety comes first and we have an enormous social responsibility. You

must sanitise your hands as you enter and leave the church and must wear a face mask.

Please follow the one way system.

You will be asked to leave name and contact number in case you need to be traced.

It may make things quicker if you brought this on a piece of paper. As everyone has to

sanitise their hands, be ushered to a seat please come very, very early for mass!

Masses will be briefer so as to reduce the possibility of infection:

One Reading; Gospel and short sermon. NO Gloria, no Creed and no Offertory procession.

Holy Communion will be at the end of mass and people will leave immediately.

The collection will be on the way out.

Please remember and see previous notices that the Sunday Mass obligation does not exist

just now and there are alternatives. If in doubt ask Fr. Mike - he is quite gentle!!!

THE GATE:

12th July - 15th Sunday of the Year

"The Church which “goes forth” is a community of missionary disciples

who take the first step, who are involved and supportive, who bear fruit and rejoice. An evangelizing community knows that the Lord has taken the initiative, he has loved us first (cf. 1 Jn 4:19), and

therefore we can move forward, boldly take the initiative, go out to others, seek those who have fallen away, stand at

the crossroads and welcome the outcast.”

Today is Sea Sunday Today the Church prays for all those who live and

work at sea. Without them we would not have most

of the items we buy in the shops.

We would normally have a second collec-

tion for Stella Maris (Apostleship of the Sea), the Church’s official maritime welfare agency that

supports seafarers both practically and spiritually. The collection because of the pandemic is not

possible therefore, if you wish to donate online just go to www.apostleshipofthesea.org.uk ,

where you will also find more information about their work.
