Today is the Solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, also known as the Solemnity of Corpus Christi. This is a time to celebrate - in a particularly focused way - what we celebrate and believe every time we gather at Christ's altar for Mass. That is, we profess the Real Presence of the body and blood, soul and divinity of Jesus Christ in the elements of, and under appearance of, bread and wine in the Eucharist.
The story of the people of Israel in the desert is our story...But the parallel with the manna in the desert is only partial. Our "manna," the Eucharist, is so much more than "food for the journey." Jesus tells us in the Gospel that if we eat his flesh and drink his blood, we will remain in him and he in us, and that he will lead us to eternal life. The Eucharist we receive on Sunday carries us throughout the week, as Jesus remains in us. He is a steady presence, sharing in the good times and in the struggles of our lives.
Today, as we receive Jesus, let us pray for open, quiet hearts throughout the week - hearts that will know of the presence of Jesus in the beauty around us, in the love of family and friends, in the kindness of colleagues, and even in the challenges that we face. When we eat Jesus' body and drink his blood in the Eucharist, Jesus remains with us. Let us pray for an awareness of that presence so that we can be the body and blood of Christ to others.

Hoy es la solemnidad del Santísimo Cuerpo y Sangre de Cristo, también conocida como solemnidad del Corpus Christi. Este es un momento para celebrar -de una manera particularmente centrada- lo que celebramos y creemos cada vez que nos reunimos en el altar de Cristo para la Misa. Es decir, profesamos la presencia real del cuerpo y la sangre, el alma y la divinidad de Jesucristo en los elementos del pan y el vino en la Eucaristía y bajo la apariencia de Él.
La historia del pueblo de Israel en el desierto es nuestra historia... Pero el paralelismo con el maná en el desierto es sólo parcial. Nuestro "maná", la Eucaristía, es mucho más que "alimento para el camino". La Eucaristía que recibimos el domingo nos lleva a lo largo de la semana, como Jesús permanece en nosotros. Es una presencia constante, compartiendo los buenos tiempos y en las luchas de nuestras vidas.
Hoy, al recibir a Jesús, oremos por corazones abiertos y tranquilos durante toda la semana, corazones que sabrán de la presencia de Jesús en la belleza que nos rodea, en el amor de la familia y de los amigos, en la bondad de los colegas, e incluso en los desafíos que enfrentamos. Cuando comemos el cuerpo de Jesús y bebemos su sangre en la Eucaristía, Jesús permanece con nosotros. Oremos por una conciencia de esa presencia para que podamos ser el cuerpo y la sangre de Cristo para los demás.
