TWENTY-EIGHTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Oct 14, 2012

The word of God is living and effective,

sharper than any two-edged sword.

— Hebrews 4:12a

Saint Felicitas is happy to welcome transitional Deacon Thi Van Hoang. As part of his seminary for-mation program to become a priest he will be in our parish for deacon’s ministry. He likes to be ad-dressed as Deacon Thi. Please find below a brief resume of Deacon Thi in his own words.

My name is. I was born in Hai Duong, North of Vietnam, on January 02, 1977. I have two brothers and three sisters. My parents and siblings are farmers. They are all Catholics and very active in the local parish.

I was also quite active in my home parish. I volunteered to be an altar boy for several years when my seed of priestly vocation was initiated. After high school graduation in 1996, I applied to my diocese of Haiphong to discern my vocation to priesthood. I was accepted and was sent to Saigon (South of Vietnam) to continue my college studies. I lived in Saigon from 1996 to 2003.

After my college graduation, I found a job at the Vietnam News Agency. I was working there as a reporter for a year. Then I quit my job, for I still wanted to become a priest to serve God and His people. I came back to my home diocese and continued my discernment to the priesthood until August 2006 when I was sent to Mount Angel Seminary, Oregon State to study for the diocese of Oakland. I studied two years of philosophy there; then till August 2008, I got transferred to St. Patrick’s Seminary and University, Menlo Park, California, to study theology. After four years of formation at St. Patrick’s Seminary, recently, September 29, 2012, I was ordained to the Order of Deacon by Archbishop of San Francisco, Cordileone. And God willing, I will be ordained to the Order of Priest in May, 2013. Thank you for your prayers and support.

***** ***** ****** ****** ****** What is Faith? The letter to the Hebrews describes Faith as follows: “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see” (Heb.11:1). Our Faith is founded on the resurrection of Christ. As Saint Paul says, ‘if Christ has not risen from the dead, our faith is in vain.’ It is the Resur-rection that gives us confidence and assurance. ‘We walk by faith, not by sight.

The Holy Sacrament of Anointing Celebration

Saturday, October 20, 2012 10:00 am in the Church

The Church encourages all the faithful, especially the elderly and those experiencing bodily or emotional illness, to receive the Holy Sacrament of the Sick, which will occur on Saturday, Oct. 20th at10:00am in the Church. The Anointing is for all who suffer from serious physical or emotional illness, that we may receive physical and spiritual healing from our merciful God. For information, call the Parish Office.351-5244.

CAMELS AND NEEDLES Boston College professors recently stud-ied “super-rich” Americans (worth $25 million or more). Surprisingly, wealth affects every aspect of their lives, and often negatively. Marriage and friendship can be difficult (“Do they love me or love my money?”). Rich parents worry that their children will fritter away their lives. Jesus chal-lenged the rich young man in today’s Gospel to free himself of the burden of wealth that was keeping him from the fullest possible life with God. Wealth is not evil as long as we do not let it own us. Wealth, in the form of skills, time, or money, is not an end but a means: a means to create a home; raise children; provide hospital-ity; to give time, attention, love, charity, and money; and to share with church and commu-nity for the well-being of all. Jesus promises that the one who gives up any possessions for his sake will be saved.

ST. FELICITAS SCHOOL Last week we had our Parent Teacher Conferences and our Book Fair. We had a great turn out for our Book Fair and there was a wonderful sense of com-munity flowing through the buildings. It was such a blessing to see all the parents and teachers truly demonstrating and cele-brating the strong partnership we have here at this school. We, as the staff at St. Felicitas Catholic School, truly believe and cherish each child as a unique and pre-cious gift from God. We are honored that the parents have entrusted us with their precious gift and always strive to support them as much as we possibly can! We thank you the parishioners for your unend-ing support of our very important endeavor to nurture and cultivate the future of our community. Just a reminder that on October 17th we will be having our evacuation drill. We will be blocking off the entire driveway from about 12:30 to 3:00. So there will be no access for cars during that time. In addi-tion our parents will all be parking in the neighborhoods around the school from about 1:00 to 3:00. So please be aware that there will be extra congestion at that time. Your patience and understanding are much appreciated as we continue to prac-tice our emergency preparedness in order to keep our students safe. We will also have our Halloween Carnival on October 26th! We will have a haunted house and tons of great booths! We would love to have you join in the fun! You are always in my prayers!

Copyright © 2011, World Library Publications. All rights reserved.
